Part 2 chapter 3

That day, Babu woke up at 11:00 a.m., his body heavy and his mind clouded. For a brief moment, he thought he’d had a nightmare. The vivid images from the previous night felt distant, as though they belonged to someone else’s reality. But as he sat up and rubbed his face, clarity struck him like a blow. It hadn’t been a dream.
He couldn’t even recall when he had gone to bed, exhaustion likely pulling him under after the long, draining conversation with Purushotham.
Dragging himself out of bed, he noticed the clock. 11:30 a.m. For someone as disciplined as Babu, waking up so late was almost unheard of. He stumbled into the dining room, where a simple breakfast of dosa and chutney had been laid out, now cold from waiting.
As he sat down, still bleary-eyed and detached, Aruna walked in. She placed a cup of coffee on the table beside him, her face unreadable. “Purushotham left this morning,” she said abruptly, her tone devoid of emotion.
Babu paused mid-bite. “Oh,” he replied, unsure of what else to say.
Aruna stood by the doorway for a moment, watching him silently before walking away, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

The rest of the day passed in a haze of silence between them. Babu and Aruna occupied the same spaces, exchanging only polite words when necessary. He retreated to his books at one point, though he couldn’t focus on a single page. Aruna busied herself in the kitchen and around the house, her movements unusually quiet.
Despite the unspoken tension, neither of them broached the subject that loomed over them. Babu felt torn—he wanted to confront her, to understand her side fully, but each time he opened his mouth to speak, he found himself hesitating.
By evening, the house felt heavier than ever, the silence wrapping around them like a suffocating blanket.
Babu waited all day to call his mother, Sunandha, knowing she would be occupied with the conference until evening. He paced restlessly, his phone in hand, thoughts swirling. Meanwhile, Sunandha, though 46 and fit as a fiddle, still felt the lingering weight of grief from losing her husband earlier in the year. The eight-hour journey the day before had been long, but the company made it bearable.
She traveled with Srinu, her dependable 44-year-old driver, and Sai, her 24-year-old assistant who, despite having joined the office only six months ago, had already impressed Sunandha with his efficiency. Rani, her lively and talkative 32-year-old personal attendant, had insisted on coming along.
Throughout the journey, the friendly banter between Rani and Sai filled the car. Rani teased Sai about his seriousness, while he responded with dry wit, sparking laughter that eased the weariness of the long drive. Even Sunandha, seated quietly, found herself smiling now and then, grateful for the light-hearted exchange.
When they finally arrived at the luxurious hotel, Sunandha marveled at the opulence of her suite. She rarely experienced such luxury, and after thanking her staff, she took the opportunity to unwind. She filled the large bathtub with warm water and allowed herself a rare moment of relaxation.
The staff, including Srinu, Sai, and Rani, were accommodated in a nearby facility reserved for support personnel. It was not as luxurious as Sunandha’s accommodations but was comfortable enough. Sunandha’s suite featured a private waiting room, where she instructed Rani to rest.
“Rani, you can sleep in the waiting room tonight. If I need anything, I’ll call for you,” Sunandha said.
Rani, still cheerful from the journey’s banter, nodded eagerly. “Of course, madam! You just relax. I’ll be right here.” Rani, her eyes sparkling with excitement, approached Sunandha. "Madam, may I take a quick bath before dinner?" she asked, her voice a blend of hope and anticipation. She had been traveling all day, and the thought of sinking into a warm tub was heavenly.
Sunandha nodded graciously. "Of course, Rani. It's been a long journey for all of us. Take your time, but don't be too long. We still have an early start tomorrow."
Rani practically skipped to the bathroom, her heart racing at the thought of indulging in such opulence. The room was a vision of marble and gleaming chrome, the tub a cavernous sanctuary beckoning her to shed the dust of the road. She had never seen anything quite so grand, and she couldn't help but feel a touch of envy at Sunandha's lifestyle. But as she peeled off her clothes, revealing the curves that had blossomed since the birth of her son, she reminded herself that she had her own joys in life.
Her body, though chubby and curvy, had always been a source of pride for Rani. Her breasts, once perky and firm, had filled out to a delightful shagginess that spoke of her newfound role as a mother. They swayed gently as she moved, the nipples darkened and sensitive from nursing. The thought of her baby brought a smile to her lips as she stepped into the tub, the warm water enveloping her in a comforting embrace.
The tub was so large she could almost float in it, and she took a moment to appreciate the feeling of weightlessness that the warmth provided. She had read somewhere that it was like being in the womb again, and she couldn't help but feel a kinship with her little one, who she knew was probably sleeping soundly in the care of her mother-in-law back home. Her breasts, though slightly deflated from their usual state, still held a small reserve of milk, a reminder of the bond she shared with her child.
Leaning back, she closed her eyes and allowed the jets to massage her weary muscles. The sound of the water gurgling around her was soothing, and she took a deep breath, inhaling the faint scent of the lavender bubbles that filled the tub. It was a small luxury, but after the long hours of driving and caring for Sunandha, it felt like heaven. As she squeezed her nipples gently, a few droplets of milk escaped, floating on the surface of the water like tiny white pearls. It was a strange sensation, but one that she found oddly comforting.
With a sigh, she reached down to caress herself, her fingertips lightly brushing the soft folds of her sex. The water made her skin feel more sensitive, and she gasped at the sudden jolt of pleasure. It had been weeks since she had last enjoyed such a moment of solitude, her husband's work keeping him away from home for extended periods. Her hand moved with more purpose now, her fingers slipping into her wetness, exploring the familiar terrain of her body with newfound appreciation.
The jets of the tub pulsed rhythmically against her back, mimicking the rhythm she had missed in the quiet of her empty bed. She imagined it was her husband's hands on her, his strong fingers teasing her, bringing her closer and closer to the edge. Her breath quickened, her chest heaving as she grew more aroused. The warmth of the water and the coolness of the marble beneath her had her feeling like a goddess in a mythical chamber, free to indulge in any desire that struck her fancy.
Her thoughts grew more vivid, and she couldn't help but let out a soft moan as she began to rub herself in earnest. She imagined her husband's face, his stern expression giving way to passion as he watched her. Her other hand reached up to cup her breast, her thumb flicking over her nipple. The milk that had been pooling in her breast spilled out, mixing with the water and the soap, creating a slickness that only added to the sensation. She closed her eyes tighter, losing herself in the fantasy.
The tension in her body grew, coiling tighter and tighter like a spring ready to snap. Her movements grew more urgent, her hips rising and falling in time with the pulsing jets. The sound of the water grew louder in her ears, muffling the noises she made. She was so close, the orgasm just a whisper away.
And then it hit her, a crescendo of pleasure that seemed to radiate from her core, sending waves through her body. She bit down on her lower lip to keep from crying out, her back arching as she climaxed. The muscles in her thighs tightened, her toes curling against the smooth bottom of the tub. Her hand trembled, her fingers still buried inside herself, as she rode the last waves of her release.
Panting, Rani slowly opened her eyes, her cheeks flushed and her breath coming in ragged gasps. The room was silent, the only sound the gentle patter of water against marble. She felt a sense of both satisfaction and embarrassment wash over her. It had been a long time since she had felt such intense pleasure. But as she looked down at her hand, still slick with her desire, she made a decision. Life was too short to deny herself happiness, even if it was just a fleeting fantasy. She had earned this moment, and she would cherish it. With a renewed sense of confidence, she cleaned herself up, the warm water carrying away the evidence of her indulgence.
As she stepped out of the tub, the cool air sent a shiver down her spine, bringing her back to reality. She wrapped herself in a plush towel, feeling more alive than she had in months. She knew that tomorrow would be a busy day, but for now, she had this stolen moment of pleasure, this secret shared with no one but herself and the silent walls of the hotel suite.
With a heavy heart, Rani decided to bury her feelings. She knew that she needed to focus on her job and her family.
As Sunandha settled into the plush bed, she felt the exhaustion begin to melt away. Meanwhile, Babu, back home, was still waiting for the right moment when her day’s work would be done.
At the conference, Sunandha was greeted by a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces. Some were colleagues she had worked with for years, exchanging polite smiles and brief conversations, while others were new faces, eager to make an impression. Despite the formality, the day passed quickly for her, filled with discussions, presentations, and the hum of professional engagement.
Back home, however, the hours crawled by for Babu. The silence in the house felt oppressive, and every tick of the clock reminded him of the unresolved tension between him and Aruna. He distracted himself with chores and half-hearted attempts at studying, but his mind kept circling back to the events of the previous night.
While Sunandha's day was a whirlwind of activity, Babu's was marked by waiting—waiting for the right moment to call his mother, waiting for clarity, and waiting for the heaviness in his chest to lift. Finally, as the evening settled, Babu dialed his mother’s number. He held the phone to his ear, his heart heavy with unspoken words. When Sunandha’s warm, caring voice answered, a sense of relief washed over him.
“Babu! How are you? Did you reach home safely?” she asked, her tone filled with genuine concern.
“Yes, Amma,” he replied, trying to keep his voice steady. “Everything’s fine.”
Though he couldn’t bring himself to tell her what had happened, just hearing her voice made him feel a little lighter. They talked for a long time, the conversation meandering through familiar and comforting topics. Sunandha asked about his studies, and Babu shared updates on his assignments and college life.
In turn, she spoke about the conference, describing the people she met, some of whom Babu recognized. “Do you remember Mr. Rao? He asked about you,” she said, her voice bright with pride.
Babu smiled faintly. “Yes, I remember him. He used to visit when we lived in the old quarters.”
They laughed over shared memories, the conversation flowing easily, and for a while, Babu could forget the turmoil in his heart. Though the weight of the previous night lingered, the sound of his mother’s voice, full of warmth and familiarity, brought him a small sense of peace.
The days of the conference settled into a predictable routine for both Sunandha and Babu. For Sunandha, each day was filled with meetings, discussions, and networking, keeping her occupied from morning until evening. The familiar rhythm of work, the exchange of ideas, and the constant movement left little room for personal thoughts, and the hours seemed to fly by.
For Babu, however, the days felt slower. He spent most of his time either absorbed in his studies or mindlessly watching TV, anything to distract himself from the lingering tension at home. The silence between him and Aruna remained unbroken, each of them choosing to avoid any serious conversation.
But in the evening, everything changed when he called his mother. Those long, friendly chats became a welcome relief for both of them. Sunandha shared anecdotes from the conference, and Babu listened attentively, occasionally chiming in with updates about his studies. They spoke about everything except the worries weighing on his mind, and though he couldn’t confide in her, the sound of her voice offered comfort.
These conversations became a comforting ritual, a way for Babu to feel connected despite the growing unease at home. For Sunandha, it was a reminder of the strength and resilience her family shared, even in the midst of their individual struggles.
Each day after the conference sessions, Sunandha and her staff were taken to various tourist spots in the city, allowing them to unwind and explore the local sights. These excursions became a delightful break from the formal atmosphere of the conference, offering moments of levity and relaxation.
Rani and Sai, growing increasingly comfortable with each other, developed a playful camaraderie. Rani would eagerly pose in front of scenic backdrops, her laughter ringing out as Sai patiently took her photos. He would occasionally tease her about her exaggerated poses, but she only laughed louder, urging him to capture the “perfect” shot. Their light-hearted banter was infectious, filling the air with a youthful energy.
Srinu, ever the watchful elder, observed them with a mix of amusement and mild disapproval. “Enough with the pictures, behave yourselves,” he’d say, his tone gruff but affectionate, as he tried to rein them in. Yet, even he couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Sunandha watched the dynamic unfold with a sense of fondness. Their playful antics reminded her of carefree childhood days, and she couldn’t help but chuckle at their innocence. For all the seriousness of her work, these moments brought a refreshing sense of joy, reminding her of the importance of connection and laughter amidst the demands of duty.
At the end of each day, they would return to their respective hotels, tired but content. The sense of closeness that had developed between them made the journey more memorable, and even Sunandha found herself looking forward to the simple pleasures these excursions offered.
Sunandha returned home from the conference, tired but satisfied with her experience. The government quarters were as quiet as she had left them. Aruna greeted her warmly, ensuring everything looked perfect, though a subtle tension lingered beneath the surface.
The next day, Babu stood at the threshold of the kitchen, watching Rani meticulously fold freshly laundered clothes. The scent of detergent hung in the air, blending with the faint aroma of the tea she had made earlier. She hummed a soft tune, oblivious to his presence.
Clearing his throat, Babu stepped inside. "Rani akka, can I talk to you for a moment?"
Startled, Rani turned around, her warm smile quickly replaced by concern at the serious tone in his voice. "Of course, Babu. What’s the matter?"
He hesitated, as if weighing his words. "I need a favor."
Rani raised an eyebrow. "A favor? From me? That’s unusual. What is it?"
Babu glanced toward the doorway, ensuring they were alone. "I’ll be leaving for college in a few hours, but there’s something I need you to do while I’m gone."
Rani folded her arms, her curiosity piqued. "Go on."
"I want you to keep an eye on Aruna akka and Purushotham anna," he said, his voice low and measured.
Rani blinked, confusion etching her face. "Why? What’s going on? Purushotham has been like family to us. He’s helped us so much."
"I know," Babu admitted, the weight of his words heavy on his shoulders. "And that’s why this is difficult. But I’ve noticed things… small things. I can’t explain it fully, but I don’t trust what I’m seeing."
Rani frowned, trying to make sense of his request. "Are you saying something’s wrong between them?"
Babu sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I’m not sure. Maybe I’m overthinking, but I can’t shake the feeling. Please, just watch. Don’t do anything unless you see something unusual."
Rani studied his face, her initial reluctance softening into concern. "You’re serious about this."
"I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t," Babu replied earnestly. "Please, Rani akka."
She nodded slowly, still puzzled but willing to help. "Alright. I’ll keep an eye on them. But I hope you’re wrong."
Babu offered a faint smile. "So do I."
As he turned to leave, Rani called after him. "Take care at college. Don’t let this worry weigh you down."
"I’ll try," Babu said, his voice trailing off as he walked away, leaving Rani standing there with a strange mix of curiosity and unease.
Babu, after staying just long enough to make sure his mother settled back in, left for college the next day. His demeanor was noticeably subdued, but he blamed it on the stress of assignments and exams. Sunandha, unaware of the deeper conflict, accepted his excuse and wished him well.
Aruna resumed her routine, spending her days leisurely and enjoying the household comforts. The servants catered to her whims, and she appeared as calm and composed as ever. Yet, the memory of the confrontation with Babu haunted her. She could sense his disappointment and suspicion, but she trusted her ability to maintain her façade.
