Kavya suddenly winced and asked the group to halt. They all stopped and gathered around Kavya.
"What's wrong?" said a worried Ravish.
"Nothing, my ankle hurts," she said with a fake pained expression. She bent down, pretending to stretch, and slowly slid one hand over her ankle. She let out a moan of pain as the gang anxiously watched.
"Could be because of that slip during the dance?" wondered Priya.
"That could be it, yeah..." said Ravish, and took out the cold sprays from his bag. He sprayed Kavya's ankles and told everyone to wait. After two minutes, Kavya pretended to be okay, and they started walking again. Ravish offered to cancel the trekking, but Kavya didn't want the entire team to head back and miss what Mani had planned for her. They had to isolate themselves from the group.
They walked for another 30 minutes and they could view the temple at the top of the hill. The climb was even steeper this time, and Kavya looked at Mani for the signal. He nodded towards her. She smiled mischievously and nodded in affirmation.
"Owwwww!" she screamed again and clutched her leg tight. Everybody halted and turned back and saw her bend down, holding her leg in pain. They all ran back to her and helped her.
"Are you okay?" asked Suhail, helping her to stand.
"I don't think so," replied Kavya, faking her pain. Everyone looked at her with concern. She quickly straightened up, holding her ankle.
"I think I twisted my ankle," she said, feigning the injury. "I can't climb anymore."
"We are so close, Kavya," said Mani, although he knew the steep climb and return would take at least two hours. "How about we walk down instead? You can come along with us and take rest for sometime," he suggested.
"No, I don't want you guys to ruin your day again after that rafting accident," she replied. "Please continue without me."
She turned away and pretended to hold her ankle. Ravish picked her leg up carefully and examined it. She closed her eyes, feigning the injury.
Priya, who stood nearby said, "Look Ravish, it doesn't look serious. Maybe it's just swollen and will get better soon. Why don't we go down and get her home?"
"No," cried Kavya. "I'll sit here and you can go to the temple and come back. It's my mistake to come on this trip and ruin everything for you all. So please forgive me," she said, crying heavily.
The entire group fell silent. They wanted to stay with her, but if they didn't complete the trekking, Kavya might sulk for being a spoilsport.
"We can't just allow her to be alone in the forest..." began Suhail.
Mani felt elated. This was the opening he was looking for. He just wanted someone else to suggest it.
"Yes, you are right. We can't leave her alone," he said. "It's better you folks continue the trip and I'll take Kavya back to the resort. Once we reach there, I'll check her foot and treat it properly. But before that, why don't you finish the last part of the journey together? We are almost at the top. It won't take much time."
Everybody agreed, but Priya looked at him suspiciously.
"Why are you sacrificing your trip for the second time for her?" asked Priya sarcastically. "You want to always stay with her, don't you?"
Mani blushed at the comment and said, "It's not like that, Priya. She needs someone to carry her in case she can't continue. Who do you think might be the best person in this group?"
He was right. Suhail was built like a twig while Ravish was slightly obese. Despite his determination, he was already panting and while everyone was slightly covered in sweat, Ravish's T-shirt was completely drenched, displaying his moobs. Mani looked like the only person who could carry her if needed.
"Yeah... Yeah, you are right," replied Ravish. "You should do it."
Priya wanted to tell something but thought better of it. They reluctantly left them and started their ascent.
