I like what I've read so far (end of chapter 18).
The duels between the female protogonists for the old man's favour and attention 
are the culmination of what has happened so far, because they are adorned with, 
among other things; greed, hunger for sexual fulfilment and a thirst for adventure.

I do not see a ‘loser’ here, but each of them is a winner in their own way.
The only losers (if you can call them losers at all!) are the unsuspecting husbands.
