Chapter 19
It's around 10:00 pm. Ashwin lies in his bed, on his back with eyes closed, yet he is not asleep. Instead, he's pondering his next move. Earlier, he felt elated after lending money to Sonu, assuming he would drink excessively and not come home that night, allowing Ashwin and Radha some peace. However, Sonu returned at the most inopportune time, interrupting Ashwin and Radha. These thoughts swirl in Ashwin's mind as he tosses and turns in bed.
Meanwhile, Radha lay in her room, tossing and turning on the floor as her husband snored in bed. Like Ashwin, she dreamt about the evening's events, particularly how he teased her, and the way he shared food with her at dinner, which unexpectedly thrilled her. She had thought they would end up in bed within minutes, but her husband's return ruined that. The kiss in the wash area had left her yearning for Ashwin, the man she dreamt would be her husband. Lost in these thoughts, she too found no sleep.
Time passed in this manner for a while until she heard the sound of Ashwin's room door opening. She assumed he would head to the kitchen for water, having forgotten to take it after dinner, or perhaps to the washroom. However, she never anticipated he would knock on her door. Ashwin knocked quite audibly, and she feared the noise might awaken Sonu, but knowing he had drunk heavily, he was unlikely to wake up that night. Ashwin, aware of this, boldly knocked on her door, intending to take his wife to his room for the night.
Radha: “What do you want?” she asked, standing near the door without opening it. She feared her husband might wake up.
Ashwin: “Hey, my love, come on, open the door.”
Radha: “Why?”
Ashwin: “You know why, my girl. This will be a night to remember.”
Radha: “No, Sonu is in the room. I can’t.”
Ashwin: “Come on, that drunkard won’t open his eyes till morning.”
Radha: “No. She knows what he says is true, but she’s not ready for this.”
Ashwin: “Come on, my love, open the door.”
Radha: “No, go and sleep.” She too yearned for him in her heart, but something stopped her from reaching him while her husband slept in the room.
Ashwin, determined to leave after her response, conjured up a reason to exit without replying. She, too, harbored feelings for him, but Sonu's presence halted her from succumbing to infidelity. With a heavy heart, she moved away from the door, fearing she had disappointed her lover. As she lay down, a loud thud and Ashwin's cries for help pierced the silence. Without hesitation, she flung open her bedroom door to investigate. The backdoor was ajar, and a figure lay in the backyard. Realizing Ashwin must have fallen in the dark, she rushed to his aid. Finding him attempting to stand, with his posture bent from the fall, she approached, her words faltering with fear for his well-being.
Radha: What happened, Ashu?
Ashwin: I slipped because of the wet floor.
Radha: You should be more careful when you come to the backyard at night. You must have been walking too fast; that's why you slipped. You're still bent over as if you're having trouble standing up straight.
Ashwin: Okay, there's no use talking about it now. Could you help me get to my bed, please?
Radha: Why do you even have to ask? Come on, let's get you to your room.
She looped his arm around her neck and shoulder, supporting him as they walked to his room. Unbeknownst to her, it was all an act by him to lure her out of the room. As they moved towards the room, she closed the back door and turned off the lights in the backyard. He observed all this and thought to himself how diligent she was; even in an emergency, she never failed to turn off the lights or close the door. He saw her as the perfect housewife – not only beautiful but also responsible. Lost in these thoughts, they reached his room.
As they walked toward the room, he slightly bent. When they reached the bedroom door, she opened it and helped him to lie down on the bed on his back. Then she mentioned that she had pain relief medicinal oil in her room, which would help relieve his pain. With that, she turned away from him to fetch it, but she felt his hand on her wrist, holding her back. She looked over her shoulder at him and something clicked in her mind. There was a menacing smile on his face, and as she saw it, she realized what had just happened.
She resisted by shaking her head, silently conveying her refusal. However, he insistently pulled her down onto the bed, and before she could react, she found herself lying there beside him. He positioned her between himself and the bed, his body pressing down on hers, their faces mere inches apart. Despite her protests, he placed his palms over hers, guiding her hands above her head and pinning them to the bed. Her heart raced, chest rising and falling rapidly. As he lay atop her, he felt the rhythmic push of her chest against his own.
He narrowed the gap between their faces, and she said, "This is wrong, Ashu. I didn't close the door of this room, nor did Sonu's. Please, he might catch us in the act."
He narrowed his gaze, fixated on her sweet lips, his mouth mere inches from hers. That's when she drew her lips inward, thwarting his kiss. Ashwin, noticing this, pulled back slightly and locked eyes with her, her anger evident as he had ignored her wishes. He smiled at her and once more closed the gap between them, but she pressed her lips together tightly, determined not to let him kiss her.
He extended his tongue, gently tracing her philtrum. With a slow clockwise motion, he circled her mouth without directly touching it. After three to five rotations, he slipped his tongue between her closed lips.
