Chapter 18
Ashwin's car pulled up to the farm in the evening. Radha, who was in the kitchen preparing dinner, heard the car and went to the front door to greet him. She opened it and smiled at him; he was overjoyed to see her smiling face. He attempted to hug her, but she placed her hand on his chest and gently pushed him away, saying, "Not now, go and freshen up." With that, she took his bag from him. They walked towards the room, his arm dbangd around her neck and shoulder.
Radha: How was your day?
Ashwin: It was good until noon, after that it was awesome. He winked at her, and she blushed in response.
Radha pushed him inside with that thought in mind.
Ashwin entered the room, his heart brimming with joy, harboring plans for the night. He decided to freshen up in the backyard. Returning to the house with just a towel wrapped around his waist, his muscular physique was fully on display. As he entered, he bumped into Radha in the hallway; she was hurrying from the kitchen to the backyard, having forgotten something. Now, he found himself holding her, his hands wrapped around her waist. They locked eyes, and He lifted her up, and she thought he was going to kiss her fully on the lips, but instead, he moved his hands up from her waist to feel her warmth. She looked at him with shyness in her eyes, then broke eye contact and looked away. As she did, his hands reached her neck, moving towards her chin to gently tilt her face to the right. He leaned in slowly, and she closed her eyes in anticipation of a kiss, her heart racing, breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling against his. She could feel his breath on her face, his nose touching hers. Ashwin smiled at her, and instead of a kiss, she felt the warm breath from his nose on her lips. Then, he stepped back and walked away without a backward glance. She stood there, disappointed, pondering why Ashwin hadn't kissed her. For him, it was about building her anticipation and excitement for the night ahead, tempting her at every opportunity.
Half an hour after the incident, Ashwin is working on his laptop in bed when Radha enters the room with tea she has made for him.
Radha: "Hey, Ashu, your tea."
He accepts the cup without looking up at her. She feels a pang of disappointment because he didn't even glance at her face, unaware that he did catch a fleeting glimpse of her swaying hips.
As Radha sautéed in the kitchen, she murmured to herself, questioning his feelings. "What does he think of himself? Does he truly love me or not? He's the one who hugged me and wanted to kiss me, then abruptly stopped and now won't even look at me. What does he think, that I'm some modern girl who will chase after him after one night? No, I'm not like that. Ashu, your teasing won't work on me..." Yet, despite her resolve, she found herself consumed with thoughts of him, her mind yearning for his attention even as she stood in the kitchen.
She had prepared everything for the dinner and invited him to the dining place. He arrived, sat down, and began eating, seemingly oblivious to Radha's presence. Feeling hurt and ignored, she decided to leave. However, as she was about to walk away, he suddenly pulled her close and kissed her, sharing a bite of his food directly from his mouth to hers.
They began to eat in such a way that she bit the food and fed it to him directly from her mouth, and he reciprocated. The couple, engrossed in their own world of simultaneous kissing and eating, were interrupted by Sonu, who entered the house with quite a noise, calling out, "Hey Radha, where are you?" With that, Radha, who was sitting in her lover's lap, pushed him away and walked towards the front door. Ashwin yearned for her at that moment but managed to control his anger towards Sonu.
Radha brought him to the dining area, intending to take him to bed, but he wanted to eat. So, he sat next to Ashwin and began eating while Radha served. He thanked Ashwin for his assistance. Radha, puzzled by her husband's words, glanced at her lover, silently inquiring what help he had provided to Sonu. Ashwin nodded back at her, signaling there was nothing to worry about.
the help: Ashwin, after his midday meeting with Radha, was en route to the construction site when he spotted Sonu ambling towards the house. A sense of foreboding washed over him; he knew that if Sonu reached the house first, he would find Radha in Ashwin’s bed—a place she often sought refuge and rest after their intense encounters.
Compelled to intervene, Ashwin approached Sonu. Their conversation revealed Sonu’s recent misfortune: the money he had earmarked for drinks had been gambled away to his friends. When he demanded its return, they turned hostile. Outnumbered, Sonu had chosen to retreat in silence.
Understanding the predicament, Ashwin offered some money to Sonu, who, without a second thought or a hint of gratitude, eagerly accepted and made his way to the shop. Ashwin watched him leave, pondering over Sonu’s lack of introspection and his own reasons for enabling such behavior.
Later, as Ashwin finished his meal, Sonu, emboldened by the earlier act of kindness, requested Radha’s assistance. To him, Ashwin was a benefactor—a man whose generosity extended to both money and liquor. Radha, ever silent, followed Ashwin to the wash area.
There, Ashwin rinsed his hands, turned to find Radha by his side, and without a word, drew the end of her sari from her waist to dry his hands. The intimacy of the gesture, a silent acknowledgment of their connection, hung in the air between them.
Sonu is eating in the dining area, and in the hand wash area, his wife and Ashwin are kissing like two mad lovers. Their lips smack, her hands are on his neck, and his are on her hips. His palm searches for the fat in her waist to squeeze. They give a damn about Sonu, who is eating behind the door. His hands move towards her lower back. When Ashwin is about to press it, Sonu calls Radha: “Hey Radha, fetch me some water.” Radha comes to her senses with his voice. She breaks the kiss and hug, pushes him away, and leaves the area, wiping her lips.
