Spencer looked down at her feet, and she was in walking shoes.
"I wasn't gonna drive in heels," his mom explained, in a hushed tone.
"You have both of them though, right?" Spencer ribbed.
Breanna sarcastically laughed. "They're both in the car. We should leave now. We'll get breakfast sandwiches somewhere."
"Ok. Do you have everything for your costume?" The son had been dreaming of a magical day, and with some anxiety, he considered the nightmare of getting all the way there and his mom missing an essential part of her costume and the whole plan falling apart.
Breanna had her makeup all done and had been up since 5 so she could go to the gym. She was sure she was ready. With a peek down her trench coat that lasted a split-second, Breanna quipped, "Yep, I can see all of it's on. Let's get going."
Just as when he had investigated his parents last week, a similar rush was coming to Spencer. Spencer and Breanna hurried to the family's hybrid SUV and silently peeled out of the driveway.
They were on the road, and it was exciting. Spencer pulled down his sun visor and used the mirror to help draw a thin scar going down the right side of his face with a red makeup pen. "It's for my cosplay," he answered his mom before she could ask.
"So what's the plan for when we get there? What's there to do?" Breanna asked her son.
"There's pretty much an endless supply of things and activities. I saw some cool things that didn't have insane lines. I don't know if there are any types of things you'd like to do?"
Breanna turned to Spencer and shrugged. "I'm up for anything. Whatever you're interested in doing. Other than giving a stranger the greatest night of his life tonight and pretending not to notice how much you're checkin' me out all day, I don't have any plans."
Spencer exhaled while muttering something to himself. "So, do you wear this every time you go to Malcolm's? Is it, like, part of how you 'lure' guys in?"
