So you followed us and spied on us?!" It was the first time Breanna had shown any emotion, and it was anger. 

"I didn't mean to," Spencer defended. 

"You didn't mean to?! You didn't mean to drive all the way across town, sneak past security cameras, and look through a damn window?!" 

"No, I mean I didn't mean to see you dancing with those people like that, and I didn't know you'd be dressed like that. I just wanted to know why you were trying to kick me out of the house when you were leaving." 

"Wait, what do you mean, 'you dancing with those people like that'? What do you think you saw?" At the drop of a har, Breanna went from anger to worry. 

Spencer had meant exactly what his mom was afraid he meant, but he was afraid to tell her what he saw. "Like, just you and dad dancing along with all those other couples. I guess you were just at an adult costume party." 

"Yes, you saw that correctly." Breanna sighed in relief. "It was a cocktail party, but just a funny one. Your father and I also like to let loose and have fun sometimes, just like you do." 

"I'm sorry. I didn't know..." 

"You walk outta the house every other damn night, and we don't say anything. We do it once, and you make a whole bunch of people think there's a stalker on the loose. God, Spencer, you really screwed up. Not everything is a conspiracy for you to solve. Did you ever think of just asking me why we were acting weird? We could've talked about this like adults." 

"I am really sorry." 

Breanna was back on the offensive. "Sorry isn't gonna cut it. For now on, every single time you leave the house, you have to ask us first. And that trip to 'Hero Comic Fest' or whatever the hell it's called- it's canceled." 

"That's not fair, Mom. It's just one mistake. It'll never happen again. I've been planning that trip for over a year." 

"A mistake is getting too drunk at a party. D'you realize I had to beg my friends not to call the security officer on you. You could've been arrested." 

"That's not why you told them not to call the cops," Spencer muttered in anger. 

"What was that?"
