Sripriya then went for the kill and changed the topic, "Das, Kindly brief me about the 30 odd employees that at are placed at Tego? What is the deal and what was delivered?". There was absolute silence in the room for a moment, then Das spoke, "We interviewed over 200 candidates, selected and placed 30 entry level executives at Tego's Bangalore call center within 2 months. Target time frame for placement was 3 months". We all know he was lying. Hadn't he realised yet that he was fucked? His game was over? Yet he was lying?
Sriprya said, "Fantastic work Das. However, we have a problem here. Tego says we fell way short of placement expectations and never placed 30 executives. In fact, we placed only 6, but we charged them for 30 placements. How's that possible Das?".
A moment's silence followed, then Das spoke, "I have no idea how many were placed finally, it was the compliance team's responsibility to check and report. I interviewed the candidates and selected or rejected them. The selected candidates were then supposed to be sent for placements post which the compliance team should have don't their job, which clearly they did not".
Sripriya: "I see, so Das, what is your role in the entire process? Aren't YOU responsible AND accountable for compliance as well. So it is YOUR responsibility to have checked the facts and taken appropriate action. Which clearly you did not. YOU shirked your responsibility and accountability as a leader and now you are blaming YOUR OWN team for something that is clearly your irresponsibility?"
The room was silent.
Sripriya: "And mind explaining to me and for everyone's benefit about the payment of 5 lakh made out to you in cash by a certain Mohan Chandra, AVP Marketing at Crescent, our rival? What information did you sell them?"
Silence again in the room.
Sripriya then spoke again, "For everyone's sake, the candidates that we were supposed to place at Tego's Bangalore site, were now placed by... YES... Crescent... and how did they get hold of the contract from Tego when the contract with Tego was inforce with us? Mr. Das has all the answers... right Mr. Das?.... Kindly explain IN DETAIL to everyone's benefit how that happened".
After a momentary silence, Das started to explain how it happened, we all knew and so did he that his confession was the end of his corporate career.
I thought to myself... '1 down, 1 more to go'.
5 odd minutes later, Das completed his confession, which was off course being recorded, he did not know that.
Sripriya: "Thank you Mr. Das for the entire and honest confession. But do also explain in detail who Mohan Chandra is and what is his relation with Rajeev Chopra case?".
Das related the incident that happened with me 1.5 years ago and he also explained who Mohan Chandra was.
Apparantly, Mohan Chandra was a corporate middleman. He was hired by corporations to carry out negotiations and source deals via unscrupulous methods to make gain for the corporations / companies, for which he took his hefty commissions.
Mohan Chandra had approached Das and Chaddha for negotiating and sourcing this deal in favour of Crescent for which both Das and Chaddha would be rewarded handsomely.
The deal went through smoothly and Das and Chaddha were rewarded in more ways than just money. Crescent got its client which was worth a million dollar which they unethically poached from SR Interactive (name changed).
