I looked expectantly at the TV screen in the cabin. Sripriya sat beside me on her seat looking towards the large TV screen on the wall. The action was beginning and it was redemption time. I was about to be avenged. The team's hard work to find out the crook or crooks who set me up and almost ruined my career a year and a half ago were about to be exposed. Off course I, Rachna, Manish, Parul and Pankaj knew who they were. It was just a matter of time Sripriya would know them as well.
On the TV screen we saw Das entering his cabin, unknown to him on his table an envelop was waiting for him to be opened. 5 minutes later we saw Rachna (Das's secretary) entering Das's cabin. After what seemed like 10 minutes we saw Chaddha enter Das's cabin. Rachna was still inside.
That was what we were waiting for. The action was soon to begin. We received an SMS from Pankaj that the hidden camera's in Das's cabin were connected and we were good to go. We instantly switched our TV screen, we could see Das's cabin clearly, the audio was superb, the video was clear. I hit the record mode. The final assault had well and truly begun.
Das was talking to Chaddha, "Gurmeet, I received this envelop with a letter inside stating that someone knows about the Rajeev Chopra incident and that he wants to make a deal in this connection. If we agree then they will not leak the information to the security officer and to the corporate ethics committee and to Sripriya, but if we chose not to make the deal, then we all know the consequences and also will have to pay a ransom in Money. I want to know how did the Rajeev Chopra incident emerge again, I thought after Reddy's intervention, the cops had let him go with a warning and we dont have any knowledge of his whereabouts".
Chaddha denied any knowledge of the present scenario. Chaddha suggested that this might just be a prank that some disgruntled team member played on Das.
Das' then raised his voice and said, "You are nuts, why will anyone want to play a prank about the incident almost 2 years later?. There is something else going on. I will screw this guy who ever he is. He is going to Jail for blackmail. I will destroy whoever it is".
He called out to Rachna, "Please call Manjit and have his ass here in the next 10 minutes".
Rachna hurried out of Das's cabin but did not call Manjit immediately. Instead, she called on Sripriya's phone. Sripriya conveyed to her what to do. Keeping the phone back in its place, she looked at me and said, "It's time. I am making the call". I nodded. She picked up the phone again and dialed Das's direct intercom number.
Rachna picked up the call and immediately handed it over to Das..."Sripriya on the line".
Das very shockingly told Rachna to tell Sripriya that he had no time to talk to her and that he will call back.
Hearing this, Sripriya seethed in anger and barked at Rachna "Give that asshole the phone NOW!!"
Rachna said, "Boss, she wants to talk to you right away".
Das grumbled, "Bitch", and took the phone from Rachna. It was such a surprise to see Das change his mannerism when he took Sripriya's call.
"Hello Sripriya", He said politely, "Can we get on a call a little later please, I am resolving a crisis situation here". He was about to disconnect the phone when Sripriya firmly and authoritatively said, "Das, the BITCH wants to speak with you right NOW! You better leave whatever you are doing and talk to me. And you should know that when the BOSS calls, you take the call in the first instance and not throw your weight and your inflated EGO at her. HAVE I MADE MYSELF CLEAR DAS?".
Sensing her mood I quickly kept a polite but firm hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze, she turned to me. I gave a gentle smile. She mellowed down and gave a feeble smile.
Das's voice was heard clearly, a feeble "yes boss".
Sripriya then calmly stated, " Das, Is someone blackmailing you?"
There was a pause before Das said, "Boss it's nothing, just a prank I am sure. I will handle it".
Sripriya asked, "How do you intend to handle it Das?"
Das "I will find out who played this prank and I will ensure that they are punished". There was nervousness in his tone.
Sripriya's next question was direct, "What is the Rajeev Chopra incident mentioned in the letter?"
Das "About a year and a half ago we caught and fired a guy from the creative department who stole and sold confidential client information to the rival company. We had him arrested. But Reddy sir intervened a week later and the guy was let off. Though I had protested Reddy's Sir's decision then, but he was firm in his decision. I still don't agree with him that Rajeev Chopra was innocent and should be let off. And now this letter. I have a hunch it is Rajeev who sent this letter or at least he is behind it".
Sripriya "Das, I did not ask you about your hunch. but thank you for telling me about the incident and thank you also for telling me that you don't agree with a certain decision taken by my father".
Das, "It's not like that boss, it's just my opinion. That's all".
Sripriya "Das I hope you understand that Dad never took a hasty decision. He would definitly have found out the facts and then taken a decision. I hope you know that".
Das hesitated in replying... "yes boss, I know".
