"Can you please come to my cabin urgently.RIGHT NOW!" I received a call on my intercom from the company HR head. The tone wasn't polite. It was firm and commanding.
I had a bad feeling about the call. I quickly picked up my notepad and pen and rushed into the HR head's cabin.
As I entered I observed that there were 3 other senior executives from the company present there. I was asked to sit and offered water.
I really had a bad feeling about this.
Das, the HR Head said, "Rajeev, how are you today". His voice was firm and commanding.
I tried to be calm and controlled, replied, "I am well, thank you. How about you." (Enough with the pleasantries already, get to the point Das. I said to myself).
He ignored my greeting.
Reddy sir, the CMO then said, "How is work on TEGO coming along?".
Tego is one of our highest paying clients and the most prestigious of accounts. Assigned to my team to work on. The client was good and we all enjoyed working on it. But when everything was good with the client then why ask how everything went with this particular client. Surely there were many other clients that needed immediate attention. Then why only TEGO? (I thought to my self).
I replied, "All good Sir, shall I give you a run down on what I have been doing on the tasks assigned to me?".
"Not required, we know what you have been doing". Said Chaddha, the VP Marketing. (I did not like Chaddha at all. He was rude, cunning and a womanizer. He did not treat his team well and was a pompous ass). I did not like that tone. Definitely something was wrong.
The door opened and in came the entire team. I sighed in relief. This maybe a TEGO team meeting I guessed. Maybe something new was to be added to the account. It never occurred to me that if it was to discuss the TEGO account and further the project, then why involve the HR? HR was never involved in marketing meetings? Nevertheless, the situation as it stood was present before me.
When everyone settled down after the pleasantries, Das said, "Lets get on with it". He displayed something on the screen behind him via the projector. Got up and went and sat with the other 3 gentlemen while the team looked on towards the projector.
We all stared in horror as we realised what was being displayed on the screen. I could not believe it. An email conversation displayed on the screen apparently was between me and a CRESENT Tech, the fiercest rival to TEGO. The email conversation detailed that I and a CRESENT representative by the name of Mohan Chandra, AVP - Marketing at Cresent, discussed the TEGO account. As per the email I had apparently agreed to give out all the details of the deal for 10 lakh rupees. The email was clear and precise in its matter.
The last and the latest email was sent to Mohan just the day before where I had apparently sent a the entire document (confidential document it was) to Mohan and asking him to pay me the agreed amount.
Apparently Mohan's email in reply to my sending the document to him was a confirmation of the receipt of the document and sending across the money via his person to my apartment in the evening. (Which off course wasn't true and I knew it. But no one else did).
(What the hell... I thought to my self) completely flabbergasted, I couldn't believe this was happening to me.
