Further, sometimes a person may suffer for no fault of his/her's. Life isn't fair in all cases that way. Maybe that's why religion has such a strong hold on our psyche. We feel that, even if a person doing harm doesn't seem to suffer any consequence for his/her actions now, that person would certainly be held to judgement in the afterlife.
