Everything was dark. Dark except Vasudha's yellow top and her white skin shining like a thousand stars. She had those shining ear rings that were shining and she just looked as the perfect beauty. 'Lucky me', I thought to myself for having Vasudha and started moving towards our seats. Vasu had finished with her texting and was preparing her blanket to sleep. Sleep got the best out of her and was in no mood for any disturbances. I finally reached our seats and Vasu smiled at me. I smiled back at her and tried to wake up the drunkard. If he wakes up now and shifts seats, everything I planned would be fucked up.
"excuse me", I said in a loud voice as If trying to wake up the stranger. He was utter drunk and wasn't even in a position to respond or 'we thought so' for the first few minutes. Vasu already buzzed off and she was sure that I would be sitting beside her and creeped off under her blanket. I was calling him by names but after some failed attempts, I seriously doubted this man's sleeping power. I went calm for some time, and to my surprise, the drunk man quickly opened his eyes and glanced here and there to see why the noise of us both stopped. A quick look to the left and he just closed his eyes again pretending to sleep.
'Fucking drunk bastard', I laughed to myself. He was pretending that he was asleep so he could spend the rest of the night beside Vasudha. I observed the stranger for the first time after boarding the bus. He was a man in his 40's, probably a daily wage worker. He had very rough hands indicating his work as a daily labor. His clothes were faded and dusty which means he is going back somewhere from work. There was a lot of alcohol smell on him and he just looked as if he was born to molest women. He had a small bag which he kept near his legs. Vasu's bag was also near her legs as she was protective of it. Knowing the situation, I took an extra blanket/shawl from Vasu's bag and told her that I will be seating in the back and will wake him up at the next station. Too sleepy to mind, Vasu nodded her head and went back to sleep. I sat in the back for sometime and shifted to a seat where I can see the both of them clearly. Vasu and the stranger were seated in the left column of the bus and I took my new place on the left column 1 row to the front so I can see them diagonally. I crept under my shawl and pretended to be a random stranger for some time though no one was looking. Time was passing on and I was waiting for something to happen. I was too confident about that drunk man doing something to Vasu tonight.
