Ruby turns the TV off and slowly lies down on the couch. A million thoughts are racing through her mind. "Why did the house wife do that? The sound of the land line phone ringing continuously woke her up. She quickly got onto her feet and picked up the phone, but call was disconnected already. She checked the time and it was 12PM. Ruby looked for her mobile and she could not find it. She went into the bedroom and found it on the dressing table. She checked it and saw 6 missed calls, all from Amit. She then figured it was her husband trying on the land line as well. She checked the land line and it showed 5 missed calls.
Ruby knew Amit will be very angry at her for not answering the phone. She immediately called him and as she expected, he started yelling at her.
"Where were you? Are you sleeping till afternoon now? Is that how your parents raised you?"
Ruby said, "I am sorry Amit. I was not feeling well and so...."
Amit was in no mood to listen to this. He went on and on about him working very hard to provide for the family and that Ruby doesn't take any responsibility.
Ruby was crying all the while and was apologizing to Amit. But he was taking out all his anger on her like there is no tomorrow. He said, "Everyone on my side of the family thought this was a great match for me. What do they know about what I have to put up with".
That last comment hit the bulls eye. Ruby felt worthless and undesirable. She sat down on the couch and continued to apologize but Amit started making fun of her crying too.
"Yes..yes, crying is the answer for everything. You mess things up, I will have to deal with it and you start crying as if it is my fault." he said.
This made Ruby realize nothing she does or say at this point will make it okay and that Amit started genuinely disliking her. She cannot think of anything she can say now other than listen to his rant. She kept quiet and tears continued to roll off her cheeks.
She lifted her head and noticed the TV was on and the movie was being played in backwards. She might have accidentally hit the rewind button while she sat on the couch. She picked up the remote with the other hand while holding her mobile in her left hand listening to the earful she was getting from Amit and pressed the play button instead of stop button.
The movie started playing and the scene was the one where the young house wife is sitting in front of the mirror and combing her hair, lost in her thoughts trying to make a big decision. Ruby stared into the young wife's eyes and felt she was looking at her own reflection. Ruby felt like she could relate to that character.
Amit went on yelling at her for almost 5 minutes. Ruby was listening to all this while staring at the TV screen.
Amit then calmed down a bit when he remembered the reason for his call.
He said, "Listen", in a very harsh tone, "There has been a change of plans. My director couldn't make it to our Bangalore office this week as he fell ill. So all the work we were planning on doing with him this week and next week has to be postponed. I was told that the teams would have to be on standby until he shows up in Bangalore as soon as he starts to feel better. Since we don't know the timelines, my boss left it up to us if we want to go back home or stay put. We are expected to be in Bangalore when the director comes. So I decided to stay in Bangalore and do some sightseeing and if possible go visit my cousin and family. So long story short I won't be back until the week after next week. "
He stopped speaking to give Ruby a chance to reply.
At this point, the young house wife has made up her mind and applied lipstick. and the next scene started. The husband went off to work, the wife bid her good bye, the guest showed up at the end of the other side of the road.
Ruby asked in a low tone, "Are all of your other Mumbai colleagues staying back in Bangalore?"
Amit started to get agitated again. He said in a mocking tone intended to humiliate her further, "Nooo... they are all going back to their lovely wives. Unlike you, there are other loving wives in this world who keep their husbands happy and care for them and so the husbands would want to go back to them."
Amit probably said all this out of frustration on their bosses but he took it all out on Ruby. Amit is a reasonable person. But with all the heavy work load lately, he seems to get irritated very easily. His issue is not with Ruby but with his bosses and colleagues. He did not have an outlet for all the pain his bosses and colleagues have been causing him at work. All that frustration was being piled up and him being a timid person, could not say anything at work. So he started taking it out on his wife.
Ruby was deeply hurt by this. She even stopped crying.
At this point, the guest had reached the gate and the young house wife had already went inside and closed the door.
As soon as Amit said those harsh words about his colleagues having good wives and all of them were coming back to them but Amit chose not to, the scene on the screen was the one where the door slowly opens a little bit and the guest starts to get a smile of victory on his lips.
Ruby somehow could relate her heartbreak Amit just caused, to this act by the young house wife very well.
She stayed calm for a bit and then said, "Okay Amit. Thanks for letting me know. I will make sure to be more responsible from now on and try to keep you happy."
Amit just hung up the phone without saying anything.
Ruby did not cry. She slowly put the phone down all the while staring at the screen.

Ruby said okay and sat on their couch.
Varun asked, "How are you feeling now bhabhi? You had a bit too much last night." Ruby replied, "Yes, I wasn't feeling well this morning but now I am feeling much better. The breakfast Sid brought has help me a lot. I didn't have to cook and after having food and taking a nap, I am feeling a lot better. The hangover is gone, in fact I could go for another beer now." She said smiling.
She figured, just being in her neighbor's company is putting her in a good mood.
Varun said, "Okay, let me go get one for you then." Ruby smiled and said, "Hold your horses Varun, It is just 2:30PM. It is not right to be having beers. I was just kidding. I came to return the last dress I was wearing last night." Varun immediately remembered what she looked like in that dress. His cock twitched.
