In the morning, when Fairy opened her lotus buds, she could not find the Unicorn beside her. She searched for the potion bottle she brought along with her. It was with her. She felt a huge void inside her heart.
She looked around and yelled out---“Unicorn where are you?”
She tried to flutter her wings to search for the Unicorn, but she could not fly.
She understood that Unicorn was her source of strength, without him she could not fly.
She again screamed in pain and helplessness---“Unicorn where are you?”
There was no sign of Unicorn.
She lay on the grass and took out the potion bottle. Large drop of tears rolled down her cheeks and drenched the grass beneath.
She looked at the bottle and sobbed---“Your present is still with me, Unicorn. Come to me and take that at least. I want to see you for one last time, Unicorn.”
She took out her handkerchief and smelled that small piece of crumbled bread. She pressed that bread on her chest to feel his warmth on her bosom.
She cried again and again---“Don’t leave me, Unicorn.”
The Unicorn went in search for fruits, honey, and dew. He knew that the Fairy was finding it hard to chew his crumbled dry bread. He went away to the hills where there was a small garden and a fruit orchard. He collected the dews from the blades of grass in a lotus leaf. He plucked succulent juicy fruits from the orchard. He tore a honeycomb, filled up with delicious honey. He started to trot back towards the place he left his Beautiful Fairy.
On the other side, the Fairy was alone and terrified. She heard a huge thunder-strike. She got startled and looked to the woods. She was terrified to see a huge dark cloud approaching her. Fairy Godmother was coming to get her. She stood up from the ground and tried to flutter her wings. She could not fly. She started running towards the mountains. Fairy Godmother was coming for her very fast. She caught hold of her long flowing braids and pulled her up from the ground.
The Fairy cried in pain and agony---“Let me live, Fairy Godmother. I want to live.”
Fairy Godmother hissed---“How dare you steal my potion and leave the house? Who was with you? Who helped you to flee?”
She concealed the truth in the abyss of her tiny bleeding heart---“I dug the burrow and fled away.”
Fairy Godmother did not believe a single word of her. She held her wings and tried to tear apart.
She sobbed---“Don’t tear my wings. Please.”
The Fairy yelled out in sheer pain. Drops of tears rolled down her rosy cheeks.
She pleaded to her. However, fairy Godmother was adamant on tearing apart her wings.
The Unicorn came back and found that the Beautiful Fairy was not there. He looked up and saw that the Fairy was in the arms of Fairy Godmother. He dropped those fruits. The dew got splattered on the ground. The honey got smeared on the blades of grass. He neighed to the Fairy Godmother with all his strength.
The Fairy heard the Unicorn and stretched her arms towards him.
She cried out---“Unicorn, where were you?”
The Fairy Godmother gave a fiery gaze at the Unicorn and hissed---“Keep away from my Fairy, you filthy beast.”
The Unicorn started galloping towards her to free his Beautiful Fairy.
Fairy cried out again in top of her voice---“Go away, before she kills you. Unicorn, please go away.”
However, Unicorn paid no heed to Fairy’s requests or Godmother’s threatens. He galloped with all his strength to free his beloved Fairy.
He leaped in the air. He threw his fore legs towards the Fairy Godmother, to free the Fairy.
The Beautiful Fairy took out the potion bottle and threw it towards him.
She cried out---“Take your present, my beloved Unicorn and go away.”
The Fairy Godmother caught hold of her wings as she tried to reach out for the Unicorn’s hooves.
The Unicorn kicked the bottle to reach out for the Fairy. His hooves touched the soft fingers of the Beautiful Fairy.
The Beautiful Fairy cried her lungs out---“Go away. Leave me to my fate.”
The potion bottle of “amour-propre” broke. “Amour-propre”, potion of ego and snobbery that makes everyone blind.
Fairy Godmother fell down on the ground with a loud thud. The dark clouds that surrounded her, vanished away.
The wings, ripped apart from Fairy’s back and she fell in the arms of Unicorn. She hid her face in the chest of Unicorn and hugged him with all her strength.
The Fairy Godmother looked at them and looked at the broken bottle of the potion.
Her chest trembled gently as she looked at the peaceful face of Fairy.
The Unicorn placed the Fairy on her feet. She had her eyes closed. The Unicorn rubbed his cheek on her face and asked her to open her eyes.
Emotions flowed in the form of tears as the Fairy opened her eyes.
He neighed painfully---“Your wings are broken.”
She gave a pleasant smile with tearful eyes---“I don’t want to fly anymore. I want to ride on your back and ride with you.”
Fairy Godmother outstretched her arms to the Beautiful Fairy and said---“Come to my arms, my Child. I want to kiss you for one last time.”
On seeing her tears, Fairy kneeled down in front of her and threw her arms around Fairy Godmother.
Fairy Godmother took her beautiful face in her palms and kissed her forehead.
The Unicorn trotted near the Fairy Godmother and stooped his head. She placed her soothing palm on his head and blessed them.
The Beautiful Fairy smiled back at Fairy Godmother with tearful eyes and stood up.
Fairy Godmother sobbed out---“My Child. You are in the best hands. Go and live your life in mountains.”
She looked around and yelled out---“Unicorn where are you?”
