Came July 1998 and the FMS session started.  The usual ragging started and after a while everyone adjusted.  By September he had become a prominent student thanks to his all round abilities in Studies, Sports and other extra curricular activities and had acquired a reputation among the girls too of a great lover.  Am not going into details of this activity.  For the two year term it was known to all that he was very close to quite a few girls both in his batch and one above him and then in one below when he reached the final year.  Girls were happy to get screwed with no strings attached.

They had their set of supporters.  Mumbai girls were sitting in skirts. It was unusual for him to see girls in skirts in that time of the year in Delhi.  The warm up practice was going on.  Once the ball was hit closer to the crowd section and he jogged to fetch it he saw and smiled.

By the time he reached, his captain gave a knowing smile to him. His team won the match and were into the finals. 

 

The Victory was celebrated with great fanfare.

1999-2000 was not a very good period for the Industry. Post Nuclear explosions sanctions and the post Kargil the economy was not very conducive to job growth.  This meant that the campus placements were not very good in the manufacturing sector. The new age economy of high end Service sector was still hiring at a decent pace.  He was able to get a good job owing to his grades and also that he had a 2year job experience.

 

He completed his MBA with dual specialization of Operations & Marketing.  Considering that he had taken care of systems of ITES company, he got the job in the upcoming Services venture of one of the most respected brand in India.  The company was a manufacturing and old economy giant and exploring the opportunities in the New Economy industries.

 

The position was Delhi based.  Salary package was very good.  Job profile was to his satisfaction and he was learning many new things.  Very soon he had become an integral part of a highly skilled workforce.  All the team members had impressive educational credentials and were great colleagues in general.  A couple of months into his job he was asked to move to a site to set up a new office branch. He was to take care of entire operations movement.  He was part of a small 3 member team. He was the one to stay there for the maximum term of 6 months. Rest of the team members, who were his seniors were to return after 1 month.  It was a great break for him in terms of work challenges.  He was up for it.

 

The new branch was being set up about 40-45kms on the Grand Trunk Road, north of Delhi.  The distance was such that he could not do a daily up and down from the office to his place.  It meant he had to move temporarily to a rented accommodation.  The office had taken care of the logistics and the houses were rented in colonies accordingly.
