Did some read up after your comment. A child becomes a male child only if the Y chromosome is passed on. If the X chromosome is passed on then the child becomes a female child as the paired sex chromosome would be XX instead of XY for the male child. Apparently the Y chromosomes has less genetic material than the X chromosomes. Hence facial and physical characteristics may be passed on from the mother. I read that if the child is overweight it is likely because it reflected how the mother was. However the study also stated that the male chromosomes are generally more aggressive than the female chromosome. Coming to your point however it stated that the Y chromosome (from father) was responsible for genitals development. Of course this is a very superficial reply based on the little I have read. A person who has a in-depth knowledge on genetics would probably be able to enlighten us more on this.
