Romance My Experience with Love

Soon after we were dressed. I sat on the bed watching her brush her hair. She looked at my reflection in the mirror.

"What?" she smiled, and asked softly.

"Rachna?"

"Yes?"

"Will we do this again?"

Her brush slowed, and stopped, and a heavy darkness seemed to fall on her. After a moment she said, "Oh, Amar."

"I was just asking." I said, kissing her nipple.

"We may do it again later." she said, "But don’t tell anyone else, other than Ma and Dad. Okay? Because... well..."

She paused. She searched for words.

"Well, people would say that this is nasty and then we would be in trouble. Possibly even Ma and Dad too."

I asked, "Why do they think it’s nasty?"

"They just do. Lots of people don’t like doing this."

"I do."

"You do? Really?"

"Yes. I liked doing it with you."

She grinned, "Glad to know."

I did not tell anyone. But Rachna did. She told Ma. The very same day, while I was doing something else. What Ma did next was amazing. He hugged her and kissed her and told her that she would love to have her as her bahu (daughter in law) if she wanted to take me as her husband sometime in future. Rachna said that it was not a bad idea, especially because she loved Ma so much and was sure that she would be very happy in this home. That day Ma decided to pay a visit to Rachna’s home.

There she spoke with Rachna’s mother about the possibility of our marriage. I do not know what all they discussed, but Rachna’s mother told Ma that it was not possible because they were Brahmins, and therefore higher in caste. Moreover, they would want to marry their only daughter within the same caste. Rachna’s mother assured Ma that she liked everything about us – we were a positive influence over Rachna. She was studying well, she was learning household work well, and she was better behaved since she came in our contact. She also told Ma that she liked me as a possible husband for Rachna. But first I should make something of a career for me.

Needless to say that suddenly, Rachna’s visits to our home reduced to almost never. We only met each other in college. She told me that her mother believed that we would sweet talk her in to doing our bidding, and she did not want that to happen. Still, all was good, but soon we started our graduate education. And just like that our fledgling relationship finished. Rachna went to an engineering college in the same state, whereas I went to one of the best engineering college in India to pursue my education. But that was not the end of our story.

Rachna would later return in my life.
