The next two days had gone by quickly, and now it was Wednesday morning. Roma woke up early and today was the day that she had to go to Jindal's office and appear for an interview. Roma had taken leave from her institute for the day. She prepared breakfast for Amar and herself. She had her breakfast, took a quick bath and got ready.She wore a nice and simple salwar suit and left home. Roma had a long journey to make as Jindal's office-JINDAL CORP. was far from where she stayed...even far than the institute where she worked. After a local train journey and an auto ride, Roma had reached the Company building of JINDAL CORP. after nearly 1 and half hours from the time she left her home. She met the security guards at the ground floor and told them that she had come for an interview with the HR department.
The Security guards told her that she would have to go to the 7th floor. Roma went towards the lift and pressed a button. The lift door opened and she went inside the lift.She pressed the button for the 7th floor. The lift started moving up and soon reached the 7th floor. The lift door opened and Roma came out of the lift. She met the receptionist and told her that she had come for an interview with the HR heads-Arvind Mehta and Janaki Iyer. The receptionist told her to take a seat and wait in the lobby for some time. Roma took a seat and looked around the room. She saw that all the employees were wearing formal,corporate wear. The male employees were in shirts and trousers and the female employees wear wearing shirts,torusers,skirts,jackets. Seeing them, Roma kind of felt a little awakward and out of place wearing a simple salwar suit.
After nearly 25 minutes of waiting, the receptionist called Roma and told her to head to the HR department's room. Roma headed towards the HR department's room and on the reaching the room, knocked on the door. A man replied," Please come in." Roma opened the door and said," May I come in." The man said," yes please come in." Roma saw that the room had a big table and three chairs. While 2 people sat side by side on one side-one man and one woman, the other chair was on the opposite side of the table. The man and woman looked at Roma and asked her to sit down. While the man looked to be in his forties and was a little plump. The woman looked like she was in her mid fifties and was slim. Roma greeted both of them. The man told her to show her CV. Roma gave her CV to him. The woman started asking questions to Roma.
She asked her to tell them about herself. Roma told them about her educational background,qualifications,hobbies etc. The man then passed over the CV to the woman. The man and woman talked among themselves and then looked at Roma and jointly said," Congratulations you have been selected...Your CV is impressive and your personality is good too...you will be the right candidate as a PRO-Public Relations Officer in our company. Its a challenging job as not only you have to work in the PR of the company but also coordinate with the HR and Marketing teams too...basically its all team work in this company...all the departments are interconnected and everybody has to be a Team Player here...the work environment is very good here. I am sure you will enjoy working with us. " The woman then said," Well Roma, you have to wear business attires,skirts,tops,trousers,jackets etc to this office.Our office generally doesn't follow Indian attires except if we have some Indian festival celebration in the office.
Will that be fine with you." Roma looked at them and said," Yes it will be fine with me...no issues ma'am ." Then the woman asked when can you join us. Roma told her that as only a week is left in the month. She will work the remaining days in her present company-the educational institute and clear her dues,and get her work experience certificate from that company, and join JINDAL CORP. from the 1st day of the next month, i.e. eight days from now. The man and woman told her that its fine by them. Then they shook hands with Roma and introduced themselves to her.The man was Arvind Mehta and the woman was Janaki Iyer. The woman then called some one on the phone and told her to come to the room. Then one woman came in, she was wearing a white full sleeved shirt and black skirt which reached up to her knees and black heels. The woman Janaki introduced Roma to this woman and said," Maria this is Roma, she is our new employee...she is joining the PR department as a PRO after 8 days. Roma this is Maria...Maria D'Souza, Chief Secretary to our Chairman and MD, Mr.Jindal.
Roma shook hands with Maria and saw that she was a dusky,slim and quite tall woman...about 5'9" and was attractive looking too.Maria also shook hands with Roma and said," Welcome to JINDAL CORP., Welcome to the family Roma." Arvind Mehta then told Janaki to show Roma the office,the floor and also show her the work stations of others in the PR and HR department and get her introduced to other employees. Maria took Roma outside the room and showed her around the office and intoduced Roma to the other employees,her soon to be colleagues. Then Jindal came out of his room,the Chairman/MD's office and saw Roma with Maria." He came towards Roma and said," Hi Roma ! So Maria is showing you around...met your soon to be colleagues...Arvind informed me just now that you have appeared for the interview and have got the job...Congratulations Roma ! Welcome to JINDAL CORP., Welcome to the family."
Roma said,"Thank you Jindal saab...Thank you so much." Jindal smiled and said," No Jindal saab from now...you will call me Mr.Jindal from now on...OK." Roma smiled and said," OK...Mr.Jindal." Then Jindal asked Maria about some files and papers for a business meeting with some clients in two hours time, and Jindal and Maria left Roma and went away. Roma now left the office and decided to bu some cake and take it home to celebrate her new job with Amar. She bought a chocolate cake and hailed a Taxi to return home.
