Sanjana entered her house with a defeated look. Her eyes were swollen and red. She had been fighting back tears all the while she was sitting in the auto back to her house.
All the confidence she had when she started to work today morning has zapped out of her.
"Hey, how was your day. You are early than i expected" Vivek asked as he heard the door click and the sound of bangles/anklets without seeing her. He was busy cleaning up some mess the kids had made in the table.
....
"What happened Sanjana.. all quiet ??" he asked quizically as he dropped the cleaning sponge and looked at her.
"Hey .. what happened ? Why are you crying ? Was there a problem at the office ? Did you boss say something ?" he asked.
Sanjana broke down crying loud and rushed to their room. Vivek quickly followed her inside leaving his cleaning as it was..
Sanjana fell on the bed crying uncontrollably.
"Sanjana what happened ?" he went and sat near her, placed his hand on her back lovingly and asked her.

"Look Sanjana.. relax... calm down. I will bring you some water" Vivek rushed out and got some water from the table
"Drink this" he gave her. Sanjana sat down on the bed and started sipping the water. Vivek put his hand around her shoulders and calmed her down.
"Take it easy and tell me what happened"
Sanjana was done with the hysterical crying and was more composed now after taking the water. She sniffed a bit and wiped the tears around her eyes and cheek and started to talk
"Vivek, we are totally screwed. The chairman of MAS is Anand ..." she said and looked at Vivek for his reaction.
"Which Anand ?? .. Do you mean.. the bastard ..who.. " Vivek did not complete the sentence but looked at her in a manner which conveyed he recognized him.
"Yes. The same perverted old idiot" she said angrily.
"How come ? You did not know he was the chairman during the interview of the training" Vivek shot back puzzled.
"No. I always knew the chairman was Chandrasekar. But he was Anand Chandrasekar and I had no clue about it"
"Pchh... Sanjana.. what is this new mess. Does he know that you work there ? Obviously you are not reporting to him right ?"
"No. He was the one who recommended me to this company and adding to that, MUkhesh has told that I need to work with Anand for the next month on an important client bid.I am going to work directly under him"
Vivek's face turned pale. He was fidgeting with his hands and a sweat broke out wetting his head and palms. He was scratching his head and clearly showed signs of a person who was nothing but helpless.
"Look Vivek, I will have to resign from this job" Sanjana said firmly in a low voice.
"WHAT ?? RESIGN ? Did you forget the bond that you signed for 2 yr/20L bond that you signed ? How will you break that bond ? We are already in a royal mess here" Vivek shouted.
"What are talking Vivek ? That man propositioned me to sleep with him. How can i work for him ? What are you saying?" Sanjana asked him shocked at his reaction.
"You should have thought about all this before signing that damn bond Sanjana. Now we cannot pay that money and if they sue you, you will not get a job. Good, I am jobless and have my name tarnished. Now you are jobless and name tarnished.
Both of us will start begging with the kids, if thats what we have to do" Vivek shouted losing his cool.
Sanjana looked hard at Vivek.. realizing how hard the situation has changed him. The same person broke the face of his friend for bringing this proposal. Now he was shouting at her.
"Vivek so you want me to sleep with him and save the job ?"
"NO. I DID NOT SAY THAT" Vivek raised his voice.
"Then you say all this is my fault. Me signing this agreement and working hard day in and day out just to get past this training and get this job - for you and our family?"
"No. Its not your fault. Its my fault. I wanted the big house. I wanted to give a great lifestyle to you and our kids. I wanted you to stay at home and be the queen. Its all my mistake" he said angrily.
"Yes. why don't you add that you fucked up big time in your job and became jobless. The mess started because of that, if you recall" she shot back at him.
"I am killing myself daily for that and thanks for adding more pain to my wound Sanjana" Vivek's voice broke down as he started fighting his tears back..
There was silence for the next 5 mins. Its been a long time they had a fight. Sanjana was not a nagging or dominating type. She was always sweet and always cared for Vivek's temperament. If she sensed conflict, she would go submissive and avoid it. So it is rare they fight. After the problems started a few months back, Sanjana was even more careful to avoid any conflicts.
Sanjana wiped her face sat up and spoke to Vivek who was facing down with his face on his palms.
"Vivek, I am sorry.. but I am also hurt. I am also afraid about the whole situation" she said hugging him slowly.
"Sanjana is there any way out ? What did he exactly say ?" vivek asked her.
"Ok. He said that he just wanted to help and all the training, work and bid were real. He also said that he is not going to force anything on me for this job"
"What ? He does not want anything in return ? Then why are you worried?" Vivek asked quizically.
"Are you out of your minds? I know what he wants and he is going to come to that somehow or the other. How can i work with him, knowing this ?" Sanjana asked slightly angrily.
"Sanjana, you are thinking too much. He might have realized that you will not agree. May be he is just helping"
"Really.. ??? do you think so ??" Sanjana asked mockingly.
"Sanjana, all I am asking is, are you afraid that he will force you to something"
"No. I am not afraid of him forcing anything on me." Sanjana quickly replied.
"Then, the only problem you have is that he will proposition again to you like before. right ?"
"Yes..." she replied hesistantly not knowing where Vivek was getting to..
"What will you do if he proposes something like before" Vivek was careful not use the "sleeping with" part during the conversation. It felt awkward.
"What will I do ?? I will throw away the job right on his face and give him his earful" Sanjana said angrily.
"There.. see you know what to do when he makes an indecent move, right? Then why do it now. You can resign when he does something like. Untill then, why don't you work normally with him"
..... Sanjana was silent.
" We will cross the bridge when it comes. Why should we fear now. We are already in lot of trouble. Why invite more now? right?" Vivek said again.
What he was saying was convincing. "But how is he even saying this. Why is vivek ready to send me to a person who we clearly know wants me on his bed." Sanjana thought within herself.
"Vivek is so broken. The situation is so bad. Thats why he has come down this level. May be what he says is right" she reasoned.
"Vivek, I think you are right. Why should I bother working with him when I am clearly in control of the situation and I am not going to be forced to do something." she said.
"We travel in buses and trains knowing that a lot of creeps will travel along and will rub against you. Are you going to be worried about every creep. I will think of Anand as just another such creep, right?" Sanjana explained.
"Exactly. Don't get too worked up. Its only a month. Then Mukhesh will be back and everything is normal. Maintain a safe distance till then and you are done" Vivek said.
Sanjana hugged him tightly and said. "Ok. Let me do this"
