Fantasy Whatever Gets You through the Night by TMaskedWriter
Heinrich Dietz came to in a hospital bed. He became aware that he was secured into place. The sensation of pain being suppressed by morphine washed over him. Another bed was across from his in the room, curtains around it. He could see that it was daylight through the window. His dazed hopes that he'd been somehow rescued were dashed by the sight of D.I. Allaine sitting in the corner, watching him. Dietz scowled through the drugs. The inspector noticed that he was conscious and made a phone call.

His gaze drifted away from Allaine. After some unguessable amount of time, the door opened and, to his horror, Contessa Helena de San Finzione stepped into the hospital room. She held a bunch of gbangs and walked over to Dietz's bedside, setting them down on the tray in front of him. The thief who'd beaten him with cheap movie tricks. The demon who'd driven him to taking a suicide pill. The relentless fucking hellhound who'd chased him into the Great Beyond and dragged him back.

"Welcome back, Heinrich." Helen told him. She looked at his face, no longer that of the Aryan poster boy, and took a step back before steeling herself and sitting down. "Sorry, it's... did you see 'Skyfall?' The villain in that one survived a suicide pill too and... well, there's a reason they removed all the mirrors from the room."

Dietz tried to respond. Tried to curse the devil who'd pushed his sanity past its limit. His throat brought back nothing but scratches and weak moans. He became aware of thick bandages around it.

"Don't try to speak." Helen commanded him. "You cut the inside of your throat when you swallowed the capsule and they had to go in and pull out the glass. You didn't cut anything vital, but you lost blood and needed more and... well, just for fun, I'll let you guess what ethnicity's blood I picked that now flows through your veins."

She watched his eyes widen before continuing. The bitch hadn't been content to beat him; she'd tainted his pure Aryan blood as well! Dietz felt himself becoming hollow as he realized that HE was now, in his own eyes, a "subhuman."

"That reminds me, you won't try to harm or kill yourself." She commanded. "You're no good to us in tracking down Schell in your current state, but I've got another avenue to explore until then. I might not even need you at all. Just in case, through, while I'm in the States, you're going to get a rare treat for our tourists; being a guest at one of our fine local hospitals. And you're not going to be alone." She stood and picked up the gbangs. Helen looked at them, then looked at Heinrich.

"What? You thought I'd bring these for YOU? No, these are for your roommate. You've already met Luc; I'm told you he's someone you want to kill. Go ahead, take your shot. Probably the closest you'll ever get to him." Dietz failed to act. "Oh yeah, we won't know the full extent of your paralysis until you heal some more. Luc's not your roommate, though. He's just in here watching you while the Ultimados get some coffee. You'll see them in time. Or maybe not. No, I'm talking about this roommate."

Helen walked over to the curtain and drew it. The man in the bed glared at Dietz, holding a security officer revolver in his hand.

"Heinrich Dietz, this is Prefect Martin LeGrasse of La Policia." Helen introduced, setting the gbangs on his table. "He's in here getting a titanium hip because of your bomb in the caverns. Some of the people under his command are also guests here thanks to you. Both he and the Detective Inspector want you to stand trial... well, they want you to 'see' trial. Whether or not there's enough of you left to 'stand' is up to my discretion. Notice that I didn't command you not to escape. By all means, I'm certain the Prefect would love it if you tried. He's a very good shot. I'm certain he knows where to aim to wound you without killing. You're already in a hospital too; so, it'd be convenient for everyone, really."

She walked back over to Dietz's side and leaned on the hose to his morphine drip against the bed. He tried to moan in agony but even that was too much for his throat.

"See, you're small fry to me, Heinrich. Werner Schell is who I want. You're a path to him; I'm going to go check out this other one. If that one pans out... well, you've killed two people and done a lot of damage to my country. I could try you here, myself. But that man," she pointed to Luc. "Wants to see you face justice. The kind that's not just whatever I decide it is. And I like that guy. So, of the many countries already clamoring for me to release you to them, I've chosen England. That's right, Heinrich. After all this, I don't care enough about you to kill you myself. Once you're fit to travel, you'll be a guest of The Crown at HMP Belmarsh."
