Chapter 30

Next day I woke up with a question. Meera had all the chance to have complete fun with Vivek. She was aroused, and she was willing to have fun. To me, he seemed the right one for her. He wasn't forcing her but he was effective. She was enjoying him, and she willingly pleasured him with her mouth and hand. She could have followed him to his place and spend the whole night with him. Nobody would know. But she didn't. Why?

It's nothing like she was trying to maintain some sort of chastity. I remembered Armaan whom long ago we had met in Goa. We were hardly met, and she let him take her to a garden and have all the fun with her. There was no stopping. Then why not again in the Square?

The booze. The music. The dance. The crowd. A charged ambience. A young, energetic, and enthusiastic partner. All were the same in Goa as well as in the Square.
In Goa, she had me, presumably waiting for her in the bar. And in the Square, she didn't have me waiting for her. That was the only difference. Me.
Then suddenly it struck me. It was just a possibility.
What if I was the difference she felt between Armaan to Vivek? I was there to share the fun she had with Armaan. I was there to let her go with him. I was there to buy her after-pills. I was there for her to come back to.
With Vivek, she didn't have these luxuries. She was all herself. If she knew I was there behind the bushes, she wouldn't have stopped him.

As I processed all these thoughts and lay on my couch, sipping my hot drink, I tried to convince me with reasoning. If she feels the urge to have sex with others only in my presence and permission, that only suggests one thing. She wants to make me feel it.
And what do I feel? I asked myself.
That was the biggest question.

My world had never been so confusing. I could never tell which one was what.
Pain and pleasure.
For me, pain often pleasures me. And pleasure is often painful.

I wondered what if she was aware that I knew of her date. She would've expected me stalking her, wouldn't she? What if Ananya had told her about it? To me, it didn't simply sound logical. Meera never seemed to be worried about someone following her. She had no clue about the possibility of being spied. More than me, she could fear being seen by Mr.Das. I felt. She was unfazed about such worries. I was sure. She was at ease with Vivek.

By noon I had Ananya's call.
"Did you do anything?"
She asked.
"I went to the Square. There was nothing like you imagined!"
"You saw them?"
"Yes. They were watching the dance program. It was really good. You know, I've never seen such a..."
"You saw them watching the program or you saw the program?"
She interrupted me. She was definitely expecting more than what I told her.
"Why are you so negative? I saw them watching the program and then drinking and chatting. They didn't even dance. And he dropped him at her house at right time."
She remained silent for a couple of seconds.
"Ananya?"
I thought she hung up.
"Krish! You have a gem of a woman as your wife. No one stays this firm. She's so... You know what I'm talking about."
I felt really great when I heard those words from her.
"I know that Ananya. I need your help to bring her back to me."
"I really want to help you, Krish. But she never let me talk about it. I don't know, whenever I talk about you, even mention your name in our talks, she quits immediately. Tell me the truth, what have you done to her that she hates you this much?"
I couldn't really face that question. I had done everything.
"You already know what I've done."
"This morning I had called her. She told me almost exactly what you said. You know, now I feel bad, very bad about what I have done to her. I shouldn't have...I mean, we shouldn't have done those things to her..."
I silently listened.
"I haven't felt so regretful ever; not even to Sam. I never thought about it. You know, many of my friends have cheated on their husbands. Their husbands have done their part too. Nobody keeps sexual morality like Meera does. You've slept with other women in your life and still you're doing it, ain't you?"
"You made me do it..."
"Not only me. I had seen you with someone..."
"Oh come on. Don't be so silly. You might have seen a lot of such women but she... You know, Nikita, her name is Nikita, she is one of what you've mentioned. She has her family in the North and here she has someone else, her old boyfriend or something.. but it's not definitively me. I have got nothing to do with her. Trust me. My only mistake was with you, and that too, I had no intention to..."
"Yeah. Yeah. I know, I seduced you, you the Saint."
"You did. And I'm happy you've felt bad about it."
"I felt bad then and maybe now too. But I'm not sure about when I see you again."

I never thought I was so attractive. What's wrong with this woman? I thought.

That night I slept peacefully. I had Ananya's words in my mind. Someone complimenting Meera always made me happy.

But all the peace and my happiness were destroyed soon. Within one week.

Das and I had a fine evening at the Prince bar on Wednesday. He had invited me.
"I don't know what's holding her back, man! She behaves really cool and flirts with me, but when I ask her out she comes up with a hell lot of excuses."
He said.
I was pretending to be enjoying my drink like it was the most important thing in the world for me, but inside I was actually trying to add his words to whatever half-baked info I had gained from the Vivek episode so that I could make out if I had any chance.
"Maybe she's not willing to do anything other than what she's doing right now..."
"Don't bullshit me, Mr Menon. I can see it in her eyes. She wants me. She dreams me. I know that."
He looked deep into my eyes as he asserted his vision. I immediately felt that my eyes betrayed me and conveyed my excitement. I was forced to speak in sync.
"What type of dreams, Mr Das?"
"Wet dreams... Soaked dreams..."
He grinned.
"How do you know they're so wet?"
"You don't know man. You should look into her eyes. It speaks what she doesn't let her mouth to do."
I recollected Vivek's words from Saturday. I suddenly wanted to see Meera and look into her eyes. What were they conveying to her lovers?
"So what's your next move?"
I asked later.
"Persistence, my friend. Today or tomorrow, it doesn't matter. She will be mine."
He declared.
I burned. Hell.

And his persistence paid off within days.
Das called me again, Friday evening.
"Great news. I've got her nod, my buddy. She's coming. But there's a clause. She demanded your presence to where I'm taking her for lunch."
It wasn't a great news. And I couldn't digest her demand.
Why does she need me?
"She thinks if you're present we both will be in control. You're her safety net, I guess. She feels she's not ready for it."
For what?
I didn't ask. It was obvious.
