Leaving Natalie's lodge, he drove through Cable Bay and found a lodge near Mangonui to rest for the night. He spent the next couple of days exploring the peninsula of Akatere. He had a lot of free time, and decided to spend it alone, with his camera or a book and some wine, unwinding and giving this whole adventure some thought and purpose.

On the 11th, he drove down to Matauri Bay, close to Kerikeri, where had pre-booked 4 nights in the luxurious and gorgeous Kauri Cliffs Lodge, where he had planned to golf, drink wine, read and relax, and explore the nearby region at leisure.

It was here he began to start writing a journal on his laptop, starting with the reason why he had decided to take this trip, and all the feelings and thoughts he had been getting since he started. He wanted to document everything, and analyze it at the end.

At the end of 4 days, he had played 5 rounds of golf, sufficiently explored the area, written several pages in his journal, eaten some fantastic food and wine, thought of Natalie quite a bit, and completely relaxed for another adventure. On the 15th of November, he left Kauri Cliffs for the Bay of Islands and to Russell, where he had planned to spend a week trekking and exploring the islands on an exciting private boat cruise.
