2017 | | ISBN: | 130 pages | PDF | 2 MB

Ralph Junckerstorff, Sharmayne Brady, Ar Kar Aung - Beyond Evidence-Based Medicine
English | 2023 | Springer | ISBN: 9789819944392 (ISBN10: 9819944392) | 448 pages | PDF | 12 MB
This textbook assembles the wealth of clinical experiences across multiple medical specialties and offers clinical pearls that will result in better patient care and are highly relevant to daily practice. This book has been compiled by many renowned clinicians, medical educators, and researchers who are experts in their respective disciplines across Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The chapters provide multiple cases in vignette format, illustrating the clinical pearls, and finish with a discussion and practical tips. This format will allow the reader to easily understand how the clinical pearls can be applied in clinical practice. Evidence-based medicine and clinical guidelines help us choose the best management and treatment options for our patients. However, many questions in medicine have not been researched or are not readily amenable to research. In fact, there is more to the art and mastery of practicing clinical medicine than the evidence-based approach. Information gained over years of reflective clinical practice and cumulative wisdom adds value to evidence-based clinical medicine. With experience and clinical gestalt playing an equal, if not a more prominent role than what evidence can offer in a physician's approach to solving clinical problems, this book offers unique perspectives on the practice of medicine. Beyond Evidence-Based Clinical Pearls from Experienced Physicians will be valuable for later-year medical students, medical educators, doctors in training, and consultant physicians alike. Aiming to improve the day-to-day medical practices of professionals, the Editors have invited experienced physicians to share their expertise culminating in a unique book with broad applicability and appeal.

Gregor Vogt-Spira,Anke Fischer,Luigi Galimberti Faussone - Die Zukunft Europas / Il futuro dell'Europa
Deutsch/Italian | 2012 | Franz Steiner Verlag | ISBN: 978-3-515-10128-8 | 282 pages | PDF | 2 MB

Madeline-Sophie Abbas - Terror and the Dynamism of .,ophobia in 21st Century Britain: The Concentrationary Gothic
English | 2021 | Palgrave Macmillan | ISBN: 978-3-030-72948-6 | 702 pages | PDF | 11 MB
This book provides powerful insights into the dynamics, nature, and experiences of the terrors of counter-terrorism measures in the UK. Abbas links her analysis to wider concerns of nation construction and belonging; racial profiling and policing; the state of exception and pre-emptive counter-terrorism measures; community-based counter-terrorism measures; and restrictions to political engagement, freedom of speech and hate speech. What makes this work distinct is its advancement of an original framework - the Concentrationary Gothic - to delineate the racialised mechanisms of terror involved in the governance of '. populations in the 'war on terror' context. The book illuminates the various ways in which '.s in Britain experience terror through racialised surveillance and policing strategies operating at state, group (inter- and intra-), and individual levels in diverse contexts such as the street, workplace, public transport and the home. Abbas situates these experiences within wider racial politics and theory, drawing connections to anti-Semitism, anti-blackness, anti-Irishness and whiteness, to provide a complex mapping of the ways in which racial terror has operated in both historical and contemporary contexts of colonialism, slavery, and the camp, and offering a unique point of analysis through the use of Gothic tropes of haunting, monstrosity and abjection. This vital work will be of interest to students and scholars across sociology, criminology, anthropology, terrorism studies, ---c studies, and critical '. studies, researching race and racialisation, security, immigration, nationhood and citizenship.

Roland Hausser - Computational Linguistics and Talking Robots: Processing Content in Database Semantics
English | 2011 | Springer | ISBN: 9783642224324 (ISBN10: 3642224326) | 287 pages | PDF | 4 MB
The practical task of building a talking robot requires a theory of how natural language communication works. Conversely, the best way to computationally verify a theory of natural language communication is to demonstrate its functioning concretely in the form of a talking robot, the epitome of human-machine communication. To build an actual robot requires hardware that provides appropriate recognition and action interfaces, and because such hardware is hard to develop the approach in this book is the author presents an artificial cognitive agent with language as a software system called database semantics (DBS). Because a theoretical approach does not have to deal with the technical difficulties of hardware engineering there is no reason to simplify the system - instead the software components of DBS aim at completeness of function and of data coverage in word form recognition, syntactic-semantic interpretation and inferencing, leaving the procedural implementation of elementary concepts for later.
In this book the author first examines the universals of natural language and explains the Database Semantics approach. Then in Part I he examines the following natural language communication using external surfaces; the cycle of natural language communication; memory structure; autonomous control; and learning. In Part II he analyzes the coding of content according to the semantic relations of structure; simultaneous amalgamation of content; graph-theoretical considerations; computing perspective in dialogue; and computing perspective in text. The book ends with a concluding chapter, a bibliography and an index.
The book will be of value to researchers, graduate students and engineers in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics, in particular those who deal with natural language processing.
