Chapter 86: Shadows in the Dark

The theater was dimly lit, the large screen flickering with scenes that meant nothing to Nikitha. The surround sound and occasional laughter from the audience felt distant, like echoes from another world. Physically, she was sitting beside Tharun in the comfortable recliner seats they had chosen in the back row for privacy. Mentally, she was miles away — trapped in memories and questions that refused to let go.

Why did you challenge me, Jay? You told me I loved you. You said you loved me. And now… you’ve won. I realize it now. I have loved you all along. Even through the fights, the distance, the pain… I loved you.

Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as the realization hit her harder than ever before.

But why were you so uncertain? Why couldn’t you just stick to me? Why couldn’t you be there when I needed you the most? How could you choose Sharmi so suddenly? Couldn’t you wait for me to realize? When we hadn’t even figured out what we had in store for each other… how could you let her in? You had sex with her in the morning… doesn’t that shame you? Or… have you started loving her?

The thought twisted like a knife. She felt her chest tighten, her breathing shallow.
Okay… if this is what you want, then I’ll let you go.

A single tear slipped down her cheek.

Suddenly, a warm, strong hand gently tightened around hers. Tharun. He leaned closer, his voice a low, soothing murmur in the dark.
“I know you’re not watching the film,” he whispered, his breath warm against her ear. “Just lay your head on my shoulder. I’ll hold you until you shed everything.”

Nikitha’s heart stuttered. The emotional support — so patient, so steady — hit her like a wave. In that moment, Tharun felt like an anchor in the storm she had created for herself. She hesitated for only a second before slowly resting her head on his shoulder. His arm came around her gently, pulling her closer, protective and warm.

For a long moment, they stayed like that. Then she whispered, voice barely audible over the movie’s soundtrack.
“Tharun… why are you so good to me?”

He turned his head slightly, his lips brushing her temple.

“Because I love you, Nikki. Because I want you in my life. Because I’m ready to take any risk for you.” His voice dropped lower, filled with quiet intensity. “I’m ready to be your shield, even now. I want to hold you tighter… bring my arms around you… kiss your forehead to ease your pain… give you assurance… kiss your lips to shower my love… kiss you in places you don’t expect, just to distract you from all your worries and sorrow… and make you feel I’m the only destination you have.”

He paused, his breath warm against her skin.

“But you tied my hands with your boundaries. Without you asking… I cannot let myself give you any sort of kisses or touches.”

Nikitha stayed still, her heart racing. The internal conflict raged — Jay’s face flashing in her mind, mixed with the safety and desire Tharun offered. Finally, with a shaky breath and a voice barely above a whisper, she said:

“Ease my pain…
distract me…
Tharun…

He looked at her, he knows the meaning, yet he waited for straight call.

Nikitha left the word with voice low..

Kiss me.”

Tharun didn’t hesitate. He gently lifted her chin with two fingers, turning her face toward him. Their eyes met in the flickering light of the screen — hers vulnerable and conflicted, his dark with restrained hunger and genuine care.

He lowered his head slowly, giving her every chance to pull away. When their lips met, it was soft at first — tender, almost reverent. But the moment she parted her lips, the kiss deepened. His tongue slipped in, tasting her slowly, savoring her. Nikitha let out a soft, involuntary moan into his mouth as the kiss grew hungrier, wetter, more desperate.

Tharun’s hand slid down her neck, tracing her collarbone, then lower. He cupped one of her full breasts through the thin fabric of her top, squeezing gently. His thumb brushed over her hardening nipple, drawing a sharp gasp from her. He broke the kiss only to trail his mouth down her jaw, then lower, burying his face in the soft valley between her breasts. He kissed the exposed skin there.  Nikitha arched into him, one hand gripping his hair, the other clutching his shoulder as soft, needy whimpers escaped her lips.

“Tharun…” she breathed, voice trembling with pleasure and guilt.

Then he returned to her lips, kissing her wildly — deep, open-mouthed, tongues tangling with raw need. The theater’s darkness hid them, but the risk only made it more intense. Their breathing was ragged, bodies pressed close, hands roaming with growing urgency.

For those stolen minutes, Nikitha let herself drown in him — in the distraction, in the pleasure, in the feeling of being wanted so completely.
But even as Tharun’s mouth claimed hers again and again, a part of her heart still ached for the man she had left behind. She broke the kiss, Tharun looked at her puzzling.. Nikitha said i still need to confirm few more things will you wait for me..

He said yes. Nikitha let her head lay on his shoulder, she had already decided her decision to move on. With one last confirmation.. for herself to see.

And don't give that same pathetic excuse like he was testing them and bla bla......

You clearly mentioned it many time that you will not introduce new character in this story. It will be a 4 - 5 character story.

This is may genuine feedback.

Rest is upto you.

I think you instantly commented as soon as you read that word.

The character Dhruv ended in the same chapter, when my character Tharun said he dont need to do a business of that kind.

Not necessary was his point.

Chapter 87: Unmasking and Unraveling

Sharmi sat across from Jay in a quiet corner of the hotel lounge, her voice low but determined.

“I guess the jealousy game is kind of backfiring,” she admitted. “So my next plan is to make her realize her love for you. But first, we need to unmask the person who wrote that letter to HR.”

Jay looked at her, surprised. “Do you know who it was?”

“I almost figured it out,” Sharmi said, leaning forward. “Four people had gone to that floor that night. Two of them were couples. The other two said they went to take their belongings. One of them had kept something there. But the details of the masked man still don’t match any of the four. It was definitely an insider job.”

She paused, studying his face.

“By the way… you have never told me the full story of you and Nikitha. I want to know why you ended up like this.”
Jay took a deep breath. For the first time in a long while, he let the walls come down.
He told her everything.

How Nikitha had been pushed by her cruel stepmother into a marriage she didn’t want. How his own lover had abandoned him at the temple. How Nikitha, desperate and running for her life, had burst into that same temple and pleaded for his help. How, in the chaos, they had ended up married on the spot — a temporary escape for both of them.

“We started this life out of convenience,” Jay said quietly. “But we lived like friends. Yes, we had sex… but we treated it like friends with benefits. Only later did I realize I had always loved her. To her, she expected more from me. Somewhere, I missed it. I failed to show her. Now we stand here… broken.”

Sharmi listened without interrupting, her eyes soft with understanding.

“I was challenged to prove my love — and her love for me,” Jay continued, voice heavy. “But I couldn’t do anything. Thanks to you… at least in that cloud of disadvantages, one day literally brought us together. She might have witnessed how much she still loves me. I wish you had come into our lives earlier.”

Sharmi reached out and held his hand gently.

“Better late than never,” she said softly. “See, I saw the time — it’s already 5 PM. They should have come back by noon. No news of them?”
Jay’s jaw tightened. “The fear of someone getting closer to my wife always kills me. And that Tharun… he has kissed her multiple times now.”
Sharmi asked carefully, “Does that trouble you? How are you so contained?”

Jay gave a bitter smile. “It’s tough. Only I know the pain. Initially, I thought she was just revenging me by getting closer or having a temporary fling. I was ready to allow it… but looking at how they are emotionally getting tangled, I blamed myself for not speaking at the right time and stopping it.”

Sharmi nodded. “Yes, your biggest problem is that you never speak at the right time. You should have told her the letter wasn’t yours and that you would find the culprit once things calmed down. She would have seen your sacrifices. Instead, you kept her clueless.”
She squeezed his hand.

She continued lets do one thing,
“Let me book a room for you. Move your things there.

Once Niki is back, I’ll have a word with her and get to know her mental state.

After dinner, i will have a word with her. i will lead her to your room.. she might be surprised..  Just fall at her feet like you did with me. Speak openly. This is the first thing you should do. Dont worry about Tharun knowing your and nikitha secret, he is the first one who should know she is yours.

Lets make it a surprise.. lets not reveal the room trick.

Jay shook his head slowly.

Sharmi laughed lightly.

Then she had this strange question which bothered her she asked it. Dont feel bad, just im curious, i have seen Nikitha and Tharun were little initimate before... will you take Niki if she got into affair now? or In case she had sex with Tharun sometimes back… or today… what will you do? Will you still accept her?”

Jay looked at her with quiet pain and conviction.
“It doesn’t matter. Its just physical.. I just need her love. But I trust she won’t go that far. She’s just confused. Im sure about that Tonight we will get clarity, and she will know things.”

Jay said with smile. “Just make sure Niki doesn’t stay at his room. The rest, I will take care.”

They both laughed — a small, hopeful sound in the middle of the storm.

Meanwhile – At the Theater

The final credits rolled, but Nikitha and Tharun barely noticed.

Their last kiss had been wild — deep, hungry, and completely lost in each other. Tharun’s hand had slipped under her top again, caressing her breasts while their tongues danced passionately. Soft moans had escaped between them, muffled only by the closing music of the film.

When they finally broke apart, both were flushed and breathing hard. Only then did they realize , the theatre was empty.. some people would have starred at them. while leaving through door.

With shame covering their faces, they quickly gathered their things and left the theater, avoiding eye contact with anyone.

Chapter 88: Silent Comparisons and Hidden Plans

The car ride back to the hotel was quiet, the Mumbai evening lights blurring past the windows. Nikitha sat in the backseat, staring out at the passing city, completely lost in her thoughts.

She found herself comparing the two men who now occupied her heart and mind.
Jay’s recent behavior felt odd — distant yet strangely attentive in ways she hadn’t expected. He was no longer the man who once took her for granted. Meanwhile, Tharun, who had first appeared as someone driven purely by lust and physical need, had consistently given her the emotional comfort she craved. She remembered asking him once, “Why are you so good to me, Tharun?”

His answer had been simple and direct:
“Because I love you. I need you in my life.”
It should have been enough. Yet her heart kept wandering back.

When she had been in that temple with nowhere to go.. it was Jay who had quietly found her, protected her, and taken care of her without ever asking for anything in return. He hadn’t said “I love you” in flowery words. He had simply been there — selfless, silent, steady. Tharun’s answer, as sweet as it was, somehow made Jay’s love feel even more profound in comparison. It stood apart. Pure. Wordless.

She also remembered Jay’s painful words from weeks ago: “Everything was fine until I fell in love.”

But she also knew she couldn’t lead a life full of uncertainty anymore. She couldn’t bear watching too many women occupy the place that once belonged to her — first Anjali, now Sharmi. The image of Sharmi caring for Jay, havin sex with him in his bed in the morning, flashed in her mind.

For all the good Jay did for me… maybe he deserves a peaceful life. At least with Sharmi. She’s young, cheerful, and she knows his character. If she knows our full story…which Jay never said to Anjali, it means... maybe Jay already chosen her close. A true alternate to me.

A quiet resolve settled in her chest.
If this is what he wants… I’ll let him go.

She wouldn’t return to the hotel room and see them together again.
The thought alone made her stomach twist.

Meanwhile – At the Hotel

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Sharmi was busy decorating their assigned room. She had bought a small chocolate cake and placed it neatly in the fridge. Fresh flowers and a few handwritten notes were arranged thoughtfully on the table. Her plan was simple but bold.

Let Nikki and Tharun finish their serious business discussions. I’ll take Nikki out for a walk later, read her mood, and gently push her back to her room. By 9:30 PM, I’ll knock for dinner. When Nikki walks behind Tharun in the corridor, Jay will suddenly pull her into our room, lock the door, and clear every misunderstanding with a heartfelt apology.

She had already spoken to Jay about the plan in detail.

“Prepare your suit and get ready in the new room,” she had told him earlier. “After I reach their door, i will knock three times, be alert. When they come out, I’ll wait near your room and give one more knock, see through the door lens. The moment Nikki walks past, open the door and pull her in gently. I’ll handle Tharun and tell him the truth.”

Jay had listened quietly, a strange mix of nervousness and hope in his eyes. For the first time in weeks, he felt strangely optimistic. He wanted everything to end today — one way or another.

By 6:20 PM, Tharun and Nikitha’s car pulled up at the hotel entrance. Sharmi was already waiting for her at lobby, just to not miss any moments that was preplanned.

The moment Nikitha stepped out, Sharmi rushed forward with a bright smile and pulled her into a warm hug.

“Welcome back! How was the meeting?” she asked cheerfully, though her eyes carefully studied Nikitha’s face.

All Nikitha could see in Sharmi's eyes was a satisfaction, Nikitha mis read it as a satisfaction from full day of sex with Jay.

We should end it here, not in next chapter, but after completing this night's development.

My interest is also increased, I also want to know what will happen next?

Nikita is not in a position to stop Tharun from sex. Tharun will definitely fuck her, if they enter the hotel room together. But Sharmi's plan start after they leave from their hotel room. Will Nikita make a mistake (have sex with Tharun) and regret it for rest of her life? Or will Sharmi play some other mind game and save the situation. And many more questions.

Looking for next update.....

Stop pushing me into guilt, i never meant to drag unnecessarily, the new audience always think reading last comment and think story is dragged. No.. its just the characters and their course of actions and situations leading to.

Chapter 89: Nikitha's decision.

By 6:20 PM, Tharun’s car glided into the hotel driveway. Nikitha sat quietly in the passenger seat, her mind still a battlefield of conflicting emotions. The moment the car stopped, Sharmi spotted them from the entrance and walked over with a warm, almost radiant smile. She pulled Nikitha into a tight hug.

Nikitha stiffened slightly. Strange, she thought. She’s hugging me so cheerfully… Jay must have satisfied her a lot today. She had even shamelessly asked her if she would be okay if Sharmi want to try Jay. May be today was that day.. The image of Sharmi in Jay’s bed flashed in her mind, sharp and painful.

“So… all went well since morning?” Nikitha asked, forcing a casual tone.

“Yes, very well,” Sharmi replied cheerfully. without realising the context which Niki asked that question.

as per plan, Sharmi wanted to ask her a moment to speak with her private but before she say anything more, Nikitha spoke first.

“I need to speak with you. Just wait for me at the garden area. It’s important.”

Sharmi was surprised but she accepted it.
Without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked toward the hotel with Tharun.

Inside the room, Nikitha closed the door and leaned against it for a moment, exhaustion weighing heavily on her.

“I feel completely drained,” she said quietly. She looked at Tharun, her eyes softening. “Can you take me somewhere else? A different hotel, at least 30-40 minutes away. I don’t want to be seen here anymore. I just want to spend some quiet time with you.”

Tharun studied her face for a second, then nodded without asking a single question. “I’ll arrange it.”

“I will freshen up and come,” Nikitha said softly, her voice carrying a quiet resolve. “Pack all our things and load them in the car. I’ll join you in the parking area.”

Tharun looked at her for a long moment, searching her eyes. He could sense the weight behind her words — the exhaustion, the confusion, and something deeper shifting inside her. But he didn’t ask a single question. He simply nodded, his expression gentle and understanding.

“Take your time,” he replied calmly. “I’ll handle everything.”

As Tharun began gathering their belongings, Nikitha stepped into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. She stood in front of the mirror for a few moments, staring at her own reflection. Water from the tap ran over her hands as she tried to steady herself.
In the quiet of the bathroom, her thoughts flowed freely.

She wanted to thank Tharun wholeheartedly tonight — not just with words, but with her heart. He had stood by her through every storm, every doubt, every moment of weakness. He never demanded, never pressured, never made her feel small. Unlike Jay, who had loved her silently and selflessly without ever saying it clearly in the beginning, Tharun had been open from the start.
“I love you. I need you in my life.”

Those words still echoed in her mind.

She knew she didn’t fully love him yet. Not with the depth she once felt — or still felt — for Jay. But she could accept his love. She could nurture it. After all, she had once loved a man who didn’t love her back at the time of their marriage. She had waited, hoped, and endured. With Tharun, it was different. He already loved her openly, passionately, and patiently.

If I could love Jay when he didn’t love me the same way… then surely, one day, I can grow to love Tharun fully.
A quiet decision settled in her chest.

Tonight, I will let him know. I’m ready to move forward with him. Not love but ready to marriage.
She decided to accept his love.

But before she gave Tharun her heart completely, she needed one last confirmation — a final closure. And for that, Sharmi was important. She needed to understand where Jay’s heart was heading. She needed to know if she could truly let go without guilt.

Nikitha splashed cold water on her face, took a deep breath, and stepped out of the bathroom with renewed determination.

She was ready to speak with Sharmi.

Chapter 90: Nikitha left the hotel with Tharun.

She left the room without another word, her heart set on one final conversation. While Tharun quietly started packing their belongings, folding clothes with calm efficiency, Nikitha made her way down the corridor.

By 6:40 PM, she reached the door of the other room and knocked softly. Sharmi opened it moments later, a warm, slightly surprised smile lighting up her face.

Nikitha : “Can we talk? Alone.”

Sharmi stepped out immediately, closing the door gently behind her. The two women walked in silence toward the lush garden area behind the hotel. Soft evening lights illuminated the pathways, and a gentle breeze carried the faint scent of jasmine. They found a quiet bench tucked away from the main lights and sat down.

Sharmi turned to her with gentle curiosity. “Tell me… why did you want to meet me so urgently?”
Nikitha took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. Her voice was steady but laced with sincerity when she finally spoke.
“What do you think about Jay?”

Sharmi raised an eyebrow, caught slightly off guard. “Why are you asking about him so suddenly?”
Nikitha looked directly into her eyes. “You said you’re interested in him. I just want to know… how serious you are with him.”

Sharmi leaned back slightly, a small smile playing on her lips. “I’m not serious. It’s just something casual we started.”

Nikitha shifted closer on the bench, her expression turning earnest, almost pleading. “Sharmi… Jay is a gem of a person. He may look tough and distant from the outside, but if you truly love him, he will love you back with everything he has. He’s loyal, caring, and protective in ways most people never see.” Her voice softened. “Instead of just fooling around, you should marry him.”

Sharmi blinked, then let out a soft, surprised laugh. “Marry him?”

Nikitha’s face remained serious. “What’s there to laugh about? There’s no mangalsutra around your neck, no metti on your toes. You’re young and unmarried. He just needs a deserving woman by his side. You’ve already cracked his heart in a way even Anjali couldn’t. She was just a filler — I know that.”

Sharmi tried to control herself, but Nikitha’s genuine assumptions were too far from reality. She couldn’t hold back another soft burst of laughter.
Nikki’s temper flared. “Stop laughing, Sharmi,” she said sharply, her voice trembling with emotion. “I’m telling you this seriously. Maybe you think Jay is already married… but I know it’s a sham marriage. When the time comes, you’ll realize the truth. I know you already know a lot. If Jay told you anything, it means he trusts you. Marry him. Your life will be good with him.”

Sharmi finally calmed down, though amusement still danced in her eyes.
She doesnt want to spoil the moment like Jay explaining himself in the private room, she wanted everything to be saved for the moment, so se let Nikki dance in her assumptions.

With keeping that in mind, Sharmi came forward and said..:
“Okay… okay. I’ll consider it. Is this what you called me here for?
 This was the important thing?”

“Yes,” Nikitha replied, relieved. A strange sense of peace washed over her, as if she had finally done something right.

Sharmi stood up slowly and placed a gentle hand on Nikitha’s shoulder. “I promise you — Jay will marry a deserving woman. The woman he truly loves. I’ll give you that guarantee. We’ll meet at dinner, okay? Sharp at 9.30”

With those words, Sharmi walked away, a quiet joy bubbling inside her. Nikki has gone too far this time, she thought, amused. She’s thinking so deeply about Jay’s future… she’s practically gone mad, speaking from the heart like that.

Once she was a little distance away, Sharmi glanced down at the ring on her finger and let out a soft, private laugh. She brought the ring closer to her lips and whispered playfully, “Dear husband… look at how people see us.”

When Sharmi returned to the room, Nikitha had already left the hotel.

She was already sitting in the passenger seat of the car, her last emotional burden finally lifted after the conversation with Sharmi. A strange, bittersweet peace settled over her. She truly believed that Sharmi would eventually marry Jay — that her friend was serious about him and would give him the love and stability he deserved. For the first time in a long while, Nikitha felt she could step away without carrying the heavy weight of guilt.

She didn’t want to look back at the hotel even once.

As Tharun started the engine and drove out of the parking lot, Nikitha kept her eyes fixed on the road ahead. The city lights of Mumbai faded behind them as they merged onto the highway.

After a few minutes of comfortable silence, she turned to him softly.
“Did you book the place?”

Tharun glanced at her with a gentle, reassuring smile. “Yes. It’s almost 40 km away, near the highway. A luxury resort — secure, private, and far away from known people. No one will disturb us.”

Nikitha looked at his profile for a long moment. The warm glow of the dashboard lights highlighted his calm, handsome features. Something tender bloomed in her chest.

She smiled at him — a real, soft smile that reached her eyes.

In her heart, she spoke silently to herself:
I will thank you properly tonight, Tharun.
Remember i cant love you, but i could marry you, i could choose.
Tonight i will let you know i choosed you..

Tharun reached over and gently squeezed her hand, as if sensing the shift in her heart.
Nikitha didn’t pull away. Instead, she intertwined her fingers with his and held on.
