Chapter 56: Cracks in the Facade

Anjali slipped out of the VP’s cabin, her heart pounding with a volatile mix of shock and irritation. She didn’t linger. Standing there watching them devour each other felt disgusting. But as she reached the elevator, a darker thought bloomed in her mind — revenge

She wanted someone to hurt the way she had been hurt. She actually expected a higher rank person Vp or HR to be there, as soon as she hear the sound. But it was Nikitha and Tharun they weren’t her real targets. She wanted to tell world, she was wronged when everyone there used to be like that.? She cursed herself for not recording the scene on her phone. But it doesn't matter she had seen it and she know their names.. though she doesnt want to make it a scene without proofs, she decided to use the moment later.

She paused in the lobby, inquiring casually about the new VP’s location and learned the entire leadership team had shifted to a different building. With one last glance toward the upper floor, Anjali left the premises, her mind already spinning quieter, sharper plans, she decided to use this news to get things done on her terms with higher ranks.

Inside the cabin, the heated kiss had left Nikitha flushed and breathless. She broke it midway. Tharun looked at her like a puzzle?!

“I felt like someone was watching us,” she whispered, pulling back slightly.
Tharun chuckled softly, still riding the high of their passion. “No one, baby. I locked the door. See for yourself if you’re worried.”

Nikitha walked to the main door to double-check. Her stomach dropped.
The door was ajar.

“Tharun!” she hissed, voice laced with panic.
“The door is open!”

Tharun’s face paled as he rushed over. The realization hit them both hard.
Company rules were crystal clear after Anjali’s incident — no affairs, no hidden relationships. They know the aftermaths.

Nikitha’s hands began to tremble. “This is my fault… I distracted you. If someone saw us—”

Tharun tried to calm her, rubbing her back soothingly. “Hey, done panic. It might have been me who didn’t lock it properly. Or how the door would be open here.

Did you forget this floor has only access to higher ranks and four of us. All the higher rank people are in new buildlng. If someone came in, it could only be from our old team. The floor access is still limited to the four of us — you, me, Jay, and Anjali. Anjali is suspended. HR or directors would have announced themselves if they are about to come here.. The only real possibility is Jay.”

The name alone made Nikitha’s heart clench painfully.
Jay.

The thought of him walking in and seeing her pressed against the wall, kissing Tharun so passionately — moaning softly into another man’s mouth — filled her with crushing guilt. She wanted love, excitement, and a fresh start, but not at the cost of humiliating the man she had shared years of her life with.

Tears welled in her eyes. “I don’t want him to see that… It would break him.”

Tharun cupped her face gently, wiping a stray tear with his thumb. “Don’t panic. I’m 100% sure it was Jay, and if he saw anything, he probably left quietly. He wouldn’t want to interrupt. If it turns out someone else came in, I’ll take full responsibility. but the chance is too low for that. For now, stay calm. Don’t show anything on your face. If things blow up tomorrow, we’ll face it together, okay?”

Nikitha nodded weakly, though her mind was spiraling. She returned to her cabin, obsessively checking the office WhatsApp group for any rumors. Nothing. By evening, she went downstairs pretending to speak with Sharmi. The floor looked completely normal. Jay was focused on his work. She bit her lip, embarrassment and guilt burning on her face. Maybe Tharun was right.

She waited in the car parking until Jay arrived. The drive home was silent, heavier than usual.

At home, she prepared dinner quietly, unable to meet his eyes. But she noticed the change in him — his fever had finally broken. He moved with more strength, his posture straighter. Yet his eyes… his eyes followed her constantly, soft and longing, like a child seeking his mother’s warmth and attention. Every glance felt like a quiet plea for the love they once shared. It pained her deeply.

They ate in near silence. Jay’s gaze never left her for long.
Later that night, as they lay in bed, Nikitha’s phone buzzed.

Tharun: Good night, baby. Don’t overthink it. It must have been Jay. We’re okay.

Nikitha: Do you know it 100%?
Tharun: It’s the only real possibility.

The confirmation twisted the knife. She turned toward Jay in the dark, her throat tight.
“You slept?” she asked softly, voice barely above a whisper.

“Not yet,” Jay replied, surprised she had spoken first after so many days.
Nikitha swallowed hard. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to.”

Jay shifted slightly. “Sorry for what?

Nikitha: See i know it would have hurt you. i didnt plan it?

Jay: I dont understand anything Nikitha!

Nikitha: Don't act like you don't know anything and pretend like nothing happened, you never know how much i struggle inside.

Jay: Im not sure why you are speaking like this all of the sudden without any context.  You barely spoke to me for almost a week. And you are telling something i don't understand.

Am I that despicable to you now? that you skip to speak with me for weeks.

His words, quiet and raw, broke something inside her. Nikitha’s eyes flooded with tears as the weight of his hurt crashed over her. He had been suffering in silence this entire time — bearing her coldness, her distance, her secret moments with another man - while still looking at her with that quiet, unwavering love.

She reached out tentatively in the darkness and touched his arm. The simple contact felt heavy with years of shared history.
Jay didn’t pull away. For the first time in days, the silence between them felt less like ice and more like fragile, aching warmth.
In the dark Jay could not see her tears. But he knows.

He said.. Nikitha, in the entire years when you are with me, i never saw you in tears, but when you start moving away from me, i could feel your tears..

I know you would deny when i say the tears are due to the hurt you cause yourself , its your love for me. But that's the truth. I don't want to hear anything from you.. Sleep.

But let me tell you don't care for me, if you are moving away.
The word left a deep impact in her.

Chapter 57: Silent Fracture

The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains, casting long, pale shadows across the room. Nikitha woke up with a heavy chest, the events of the previous day crashing over her like cold waves. She lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling, her mind replaying the open door, the possibility that Jay had seen her in Tharun’s arms — lips locked, body pressed close, lost in a kiss that should never have happened in that place.

She assumed the worst. Jay had seen it. He must have.

His last words from the night before echoed painfully: “If you are moving away, don’t care for me.” The quiet resignation in his voice had cut deeper than any argument ever could. She had no guts to justify it or casually deny it. Earlier, she had boldly told him she would experience love and sex outside marriage, just like he had with Anjali. But now, in the middle of exploring that path, the thought that Jay might have witnessed her with Tharun disturbed her far more than it would disturb him.

She hadn’t fully moved away from Jay. She wasn’t ready for that. She slowly realized her anger and disappointment might have triggered her to do so. May be her yearning for one Such love.. she whole heartedly wanted to experience love but in the process of figuring things out, she felt like she had committed a deep betrayal. It hurt her more than it would hurt Jay. She thought she no longer deserved him.

She expected a fight. Resistance. Anger. Instead, Jay seemed to have given up — quietly letting her go. She believed he hadn’t mentioned the kiss because it was too disgusting, too heartbreaking for him to voice. She didn’t want to face him. She thought she should leave the place before she caused him any more pain, but she fears, she fears leaving him abruptly might even send a signal like he is little? she doesn't want to pass such a humiliation like that.

Deep down, she knew she had rushed again with Tharun. The kiss marathon at the office had blinded her. He still hadn’t spoken to Mithra. She still hadn’t come to proper terms with Jay. The loan was almost cleared — just two more months of payments, thansk to their recent increase in pay scale after promotions. The house had her name too, but she was ready to give it all up for him, for the hurt she had caused. Her heart even warned her: What if Tharun’s love fades after sex? Like  Jay warned.

She decided she should not go back to Jay if she face such a situation like Tharun used her.. Jay had showed her a kindness once, its enough she thought.. after what she had done, she don't have guts to think about that. She had now realized that hearts were not playthings.

On the other side of the bed, Jay lay awake, staring at the ceiling. He had read her silence, her avoidance, her turned back every night as clear signs — she hated him now. She didn’t love him anymore. He felt like he looks despicable in her eyes. He thought Challenging her to prove his or her love doesn't matter anymore. With such silent withdrawal from her he doesn't want to have a false hope, accept reality and move one. He also realised hanging on to her would only cause more pain. He decided to step away, to give her the freedom she clearly wanted. But he was not ready to tell it to her face, deep down he love her so much that he is okay to live with her as long as she doesnt object. He thanked the house to united them and make them bonded to it.

Both of them, trapped in their own assumptions, had reached the same painful conclusion: separation was inevitable. But neither knew how to start the conversation.

The car ride to the office was suffocatingly silent. Nikitha drove, her knuckles white on the steering wheel. Jay sat in the passenger seat, looking out the window, his face calm but his eyes hollow. Neither spoke. The radio played softly in the background, but the music felt distant, irrelevant. Every red light felt like an eternity. Every glance they avoided carried the weight of unsaid words.

When they reached the office parking lot, they stepped out without a word.
The elevator ride was even heavier.

They stood side by side, separated by a wide, painful gap.
It wasn't much in feet, but it felt endless.

The doors began to close with a soft ting.
At the last second, they slid open again.

Sharmi stepped in with a bright smile and slipped neatly into the space between them,
as though that empty stretch had been waiting for her all along.

“Good morning,” she said cheerfully, completely unaware of the storm raging silently around her.
The doors closed. The elevator began its slow ascent.

The elevator rose floor by floor, carrying three people upward. And somehow, with Sharmi standing between them,
the gap that had felt like a chasm moments ago seemed a little more like a bridge waiting to be crossed.

Oh one thing is clear in the latest episode that working couples should loan a house on both their names if they are willing to stay as couple at least for loan sake.

"Nikitha is like a 'cat on the wall,' completely torn. Her heart belongs to Jay, but she melts at Tharun's touch and kiss. However, she is scared about a future with Tharun, wondering, 'Once the passion fades, what will I do?' At the same time, another part of her mind tells her, 'Don't stay with Jay,' because he never cared for her in the past.

"Heygi! You're an amazing storyteller, don't ever doubt it. The way you tell stories is so clean and clear, and your screenplay is awesome. You really know what the readers want. Thanks for the wonderful stories!"

Chapter 58: Sharmi’s Suspicion

The elevator doors closed with a soft ding, sealing the three of them inside the small metal box. Sharmi stood neatly between Jay and Nikitha, her bright smile contrasting sharply with the heavy silence that had filled the space just moments before.

She glanced at both of them randomly, her sharp eyes taking in every detail. Jay stared straight ahead at the floor numbers lighting up one by one. Nikitha kept her gaze fixed on the polished metal wall, her posture stiff, her fingers clenched around the strap of her bag. They stood apart like polite strangers sharing an awkward ride — no eye contact, no casual greeting, no familiar warmth.

Sharmi was astonished. How do they maintain this act so perfectly?

She hadn’t slept much the previous night. Her mind had been racing, trying every permutation and combination, scribbling notes in her diary like a detective piecing together a puzzle. The clues refused to leave her alone.

She had found Nikitha’s peach saree in Jay’s bedroom laundry basket. Both of them claimed their spouses were abroad — a strange coincidence. There were no photos of their partners anywhere in the house. Last week, both had taken leave on the same day. And then there was Nikitha’s habit of asking about Jay’s health through her, always on behalf of “his wife abroad.”

No one in the office had ever seen or heard about their spouses. Not a single call, not a single mention.
Sharmi had spent hours turning the pieces over in her mind.

Possibility 1: They truly have spouses abroad, and what they say is the truth. But why no one in office had seen them? or heard about them, I have not witnessed Jay or Nikkitha talking to anyone on phone?. Do the spouses of them truly exists? okay even in that case, if they exists. I saw her clothes there… did that mean they were sleeping together? Were they cheating on their absent partners? If she was worried about office gossip, a simple message would have sufficed.  Why did Nikitha need to ask her about Jay’s health? Couldn’t she text him directly? Why they need to overact..  Okay lets assume, they have spouses how both of them have spouses working abroad, not at all believable.. No... Sharmi realised,  the spouses abroad should be a lie.

Possibility 2: They don’t have spouses at all and are pretending. But why? What were they trying to prove to the world by acting like separate individuals with partners abroad? What they are achieving with that? This possibility felt too convoluted and was quickly ruled out.

Possibility 3: They are actually husband and wife. This had the most potential — the care Nikitha displayed, the dress in the house, the mismatched lies. But why hide the relationship? Why act like strangers in public? A darker thought crossed her mind: maybe they had some twisted fantasy — hiding their marriage so they could enjoy new bodies at the office. Jay with Anjali, now Nikitha with Tharun. A sadistic couple chasing thrills.

Sharmi took a deep breath, pushing the thought aside. Lets say they are husband and wife, even they keep it secret for Thrill or fantasy. But why did she always hear about him through me? Why not ask him directly? Why use me as a bridge?

May be the couple into fight or something and living separate lives for them but living in same house for family pressure? May be Nikitha doesnt want to show him she care too much?

She had come closest to the truth, yet she wasn’t entirely sure. It was the only possibility that fit most of the pieces.

Coming back to the present, Sharmi glanced at them again. The moment she saw them deliberately looking away from each other, a mild, almost amused smile tugged at her lips.

Sadistic couple, hunting their preys for bound count…
She let out a small, involuntary laugh.

Nikitha noticed immediately. Her eyebrow raised slightly. “What’s so funny?”
Sharmi met her eyes with a calm, knowing look as the elevator slowed to a stop.

“I’ll catch you at break time,” she said lightly, but with clear intent. “There’s a reason why I laughed.”

The doors opened. Sharmi stepped out first, leaving a trail of unspoken questions behind her. She had already decided — she would test the waters. She would indirectly cross-question Nikitha and fill in the gaps until the truth revealed itself.

Chapter 59: Sharmi finds the truth!

Sharmi returned to her desk with a calm exterior, but her mind was a whirlwind. She had barely slept the previous night, scribbling notes, drawing mind maps, and testing every possible theory. The clues refused to settle neatly, yet they pointed toward something far more complicated than a simple affair.

She had found Nikitha’s familiar peach saree in Jay’s bedroom laundry basket. Both claimed their spouses were abroad — a convenient story. No photos of any partners anywhere in the house. Last week, both had taken leave on the same day. And then there was Nikitha’s habit of asking about Jay’s health through her, always “on behalf of his wife abroad.”

No one in the office had ever seen or heard about their spouses. Not once.

Sharmi had stayed up late running through possibilities, but she needed more. She wanted to speak with Nikitha indirectly, lure her with small truths and see how far she would go. She also wanted to ask Jay, but she feared him.

What if he misread her questions or intent?

He had once been the man who boldly pursued Anjali.
Her approach had to be careful.

Yet, after a week of closeness, Jay had appeared gentler and nicer than she had initially thought. He was a patient mentor, not the aggressive figure she had imagined.

She decided to start with him casually.

Later that morning, Sharmi approached Jay at his desk while they worked on a module together.

Minutes later,
While Jay was communicating with a guy on a random gig.. she wanted to use the moment to ask about his wife...

“Did your wife phone you?” she asked lightly, keeping her tone friendly. “You’ve been sick for almost a week now.”

Jay, who had been smiling faintly while talking to a colleague, turned stiff instantly. His smile faded. After a noticeable delay, he replied, “Yea… yea… she did.” His eyes fluttered. He avoided direct eye contact, his face pale.

Sharmi’s instincts screamed. He’s lying.

She felt a pang of guilt for pushing him, but the stiffness and sudden discomfort confirmed her growing theory.
They continued working fore few more minutes, but her mind was elsewhere.

Few more minutes,

A call came on her phone, but the signal kept dropping. Jay noticed her frustration.

“Why can’t you attend the call properly?” he asked. “Go to the rooftop — you’ll get better signal there.”

Sharmi thanked him and excused herself. Unfortunately, the network issue wasn’t just hers — several colleagues on the same provider were complaining about the same problem. As she stood near the edge of the rooftop with others, an intern nearby grumbled loudly, “Shit, the video was downloading… I would’ve sent it and shamed my girlfriend, shit i would have shamed her with this secret...  this damn network.”

The verbal disappointed voice of an intern sparked an idea in Sharmi’s mind. It was ugly  but it sparked an idea inside her.. Mobiles always hide secrets.

She decided to grab the mobile.. but whom? Womens are always extra cautious.. Men?   Especially men, they would be careless.. but a person like Jay? lets try my luck she said to herself and decided to go back to find Jay and find a clue through his mobile.. She decided to put on a show.

After few minutes
She returned to Jay, looking visibly worried.

“Everything okay?” he asked, concern genuine in his voice.

“Family emergency,” she lied smoothly. “I really need to make a call, but my network is dead. You’re on a different provider… Would you mind if I borrow your phone? Just for a few minutes.”

Jay didn’t hesitate. He unlocked his phone and handed it over. “The passcode is 22%%$. Make sure everything’s alright at home. If you need to take the day off, I’ll cover for you.”

Sharmi nodded gratefully and hurried back to the rooftop. A small crowd had gathered near the edge, complaining about the network. She pretended to dial a number, holding the phone to her ear after few seconds she moved to quite corner where no one can see her.. Her thumb moved quickly.

She opened the gallery.

What she found made her eyes widen in disbelief.

Hundreds of photos… and almost all of them were painfully boring.

Screenshots of work modules. Random electricity bills. Coupon codes for groceries. Another screenshot. Another bill. For nearly a hundred images, it was the same monotonous pattern.

What a dry life, Sharmi thought, barely holding back a laugh. This man’s gallery is more depressing than a Monday morning meeting.
She kept scrolling.

Photos of his car broken down on the roadside. At least ten angles of the same damaged tire.
How careful he is, she thought sarcastically.

Three hundred images in and still nothing personal. No selfies. No vacation pictures. No friends. No food pics.
Just broken mixer photos, random vegetable bills.

How can a person live like this its understandable he dont have his photo! but dont he have a friend? a girl? atleast a model photo?
This guy can’t even have normal photos. Is he even straight? Maybe he and Anjali were just pretending.
Maybe he’s gay and hiding it?  May be he paid Anjali well to hide it.. She laughs to herself with assumptions from what she witness in his mobile.

She was thoroughly disappointed and almost ready to give up when she reached images from three years ago.
And then… she froze.

It was a group photo taken at a temple.
The atmosphere looked tense and awkward. In the center stood a couple wearing traditional garlands.
Nikitha and Jay.

Their wedding photo.
The expressions on their faces said everything — shock, discomfort, and zero celebration. It looked like a rushed temple marriage that neither of them was emotionally ready for.

Sharmi’s heart raced. She stared at the image for a long time, zooming in on their faces. Nikitha looked beautiful but distant. Jay’s expression carried quiet resignation mixed with something deeper — perhaps hope, perhaps pain.

Everything clicked into place, yet raised even more questions.

They are married.

Sharmi got to witness something she was not ready for but it was one of her possiblities that turned out to be true. She quickly closed the gallery, made a call to family, to just make a record..  and she returned back to her works space. Then she returned the phone to Jay with a grateful smile.

“Everything alright?” he asked again.
“Yes, thank you. Just a small issue, handled now.”

As the workday continued, Sharmi couldn’t stop thinking about the photo. The melancholy surrounding Jay and Nikitha suddenly made sense — the forced distance, the hidden concern, the strange love-hate tension. Were they one of those couples who fell in love after marriage? Or had something broken them along the way? May be the dont like the marriage? thats why Jay took Anjali and now Nikitha choosing Tharun?

But Nikitha's care? is that not love?
Jay's faded smile? Is that not love?

Her heart softened. She wanted to understand their full story. Somewhere deep inside, she felt a genuine desire to help them — not out of curioisty, but because their quiet sadness touched her. For some reasons she strangely and strongly believed, the two are in love but seems like they are not communicating it properly. But she dont want to rush it, she wanted to confirm it before taking an another step.

Sharmi made a quiet decision. She would dig deeper. Carefully. Patiently.
She wouldn’t expose them.
She would try to understand them first.

Think she would try to help and damage something between them, she would be the catalyst to set Nikita free inadvertently. She also would be probably the one that would bring them together maybe if Author decides to further use her later but for now the course of the story should turn erotic more than emotional, for that to happen Nikita should be free of guilt and decide Tharun as her man for time being and that is not happening unless Jay does some mistake unknowingly or Sharmi becomes the catalyst in Jay making a mistake. Just my guess lol

Chapter 60: Dangerous Questions

Sharmi sat at her desk, staring blankly at her screen. After discovering the wedding photo, she had intended to speak with Nikitha, but now she held back. What could she possibly say? “Hey, I saw your secret temple wedding photo on your husband’s phone”? No. She had no right to barge in without context.

Yet the more she thought about it, the more the puzzle consumed her.

Why would a couple who got married in such an unhappy rush still live together?
If they were truly miserable from the start, why not separate long ago?

Why did Jay get involved with Anjali, and why was Nikitha now drawn to Tharun?

It didn’t feel like casual thrill-seeking or fantasy exploration. This was deeper — something emotional had failed between them. Or perhaps it had never truly begun. But if they were so unhappy, why did they still orbit each other? There must have been happier times once. Something had gone wrong recently.

Everything started making sense.

The way Nikitha used to stare at Jay months ago. The disturbed look on her face whenever Jay took Anjali into the storage room. The cruel irony of colleagues gossiping that “Nikitha had eyes on Jay” — when he was her own husband. Sharmi’s heart twisted. How painful it must have been for her. Watching her husband with another woman while everyone whispered behind her back.

Her sympathy slowly shifted into quiet anger toward Jay.

Maybe Nikitha loved him crazily once. Maybe that’s why she’s running toward Tharun now — to escape the hurt.

And that explains why the once-bullish, energetic Jay has become so withdrawn lately… especially after Tharun joined and started sharing space with Nikitha.

Lunchtime arrived. Nikitha walked over to Sharmi’s desk, her face tense and slightly panicked.
“Shall we have lunch together?” she asked, forcing a small smile.

Sharmi glanced at her, noting the unease in her eyes. But she wasn’t in the mood. “Not today, Nikki. I’m not feeling great — some family issues. Let’s catch up tomorrow.”

Nikitha looked disappointed for a split second. Her gaze instinctively flicked toward Jay’s desk. Sharmi didn’t miss it. That quick, almost involuntary look confirmed what she already suspected — Nikitha still carried deep feelings for him.

Unknown to Sharmi, Nikitha had approached her for a different reason entirely: to check whether Sharmi’s “morning laugh” was about the open-door kiss incident with Tharun. Seeing Sharmi’s distracted response, Nikitha felt a wave of relief. It probably wasn’t about that.

The more seconds passed, the closer Sharmi felt she was to the truth.

Sharmi now had a clear plan. She decided to choose Jay to understand their story, not causing any discomfort.

She wanted to have a lone time with Jay, so that she could confront him. She messed up her own program and seeked Jay Help.

Later that evening, after Jay helped her fix a critical bug in her program, she turned to him with a grateful smile.

“You saved me today. Let me drop you home as thanks.
I already used your phone earlier — this is the least I can do.”

Jay shook his head. “No need. Nikitha usually drives me.”

“Let her take your car then,” Sharmi insisted warmly. “I’ll drop you. Consider it repayment for the phone and the bug fix.”
Jay studied her for a moment, then agreed, sensing her sincerity.

Sharmi quickly informed Nikitha that she would be dropping Jay home and asked not to wait, she said she indeeing going early as she had to travel somewhere.

She caught the brief flash of unease on Nikitha’s face and smiled inwardly. You idiots… what kind of drama are you all playing?

The drive started slow. Sharmi’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, her mind racing. Jay noticed the unusually sluggish pace.

“Can’t you speed up a bit?” he asked. “Why are you driving like a snail?”

Sharmi stayed silent for a few more seconds, then spoke, her voice steady but firm.
“So… you lied.”

Jay frowned. “What?”
“You lied about speaking with your wife.”

Jay went completely still, shock flashing across his face. “How… how did you know?”
Sharmi continued, eyes on the road. “Everything you said was a lie. You and your wife are emotionally separated, aren’t you?”

The silence in the car became suffocating. Jay stared at her, stunned. “How did you know? How far do you know?”
A small, almost triumphant smile crept onto Sharmi’s lips.

“Did she tell you…?”
Jay’s expression shifted from calm to ferocious in an instant.

Sharmi looked at him, surprised by the intensity. “I didn’t speak to her—”

“Stop the car.”

“Stop the car. Stop this nonsense!” Jay’s voice rose sharply. He reached for the door handle.

Sharmi’s eyes widened in alarm. “Jay, wait—”

She turned to him, breathing heavily, shocked by his extreme reaction. “What the hell are you doing? Are you crazy?!”
Jay’s chest heaved. His face was a mixture of anger, pain, and vulnerability.

“What are you playing at, Sharmi? Do you think you’re smart enough to pull words out of me?”

Sharmi’s hands tightened on the wheel. She had underestimated how dangerous this topic was for him.
She realised he had treasured the secret, just merely telling about it turned him ferocious.
She was not ready to handle him, luckily she didn't tell him fully that she knows.
She decided to hide it..

“No… I didn’t mean it like that. I just wanted to ask from what you said”

Jay reached for the door handle again, attempting to open it while the car was still moving.

Sharmi’s eyes widened in shock. “Jay!”

She slammed the brakes hard. The car screeched to a stop on the side of the road with a loud creek of tires.
The silence between them was thick and suffocating.

Sharmi realized she had stepped into something far deeper and more painful than office gossip.
Whatever secret Jay and Nikitha were hiding, it was clearly destroying them both.

And for now, she would keep her discovery to herself.
