Title: The Hidden Colony
Narrator: Vihan (28, a bachelor, works in IT, just moved into the colony)
Love Interest: Kashvi (30, the "perfect" housewife, very beautiful but deceptively simple)
Husband: Nimit (34, works in a bank, loud, thinks he knows everything)
Key Friend: Eshani (Kashvi’s rich childhood friend, unmarried, very bold)
Introduction
I shifted to Gulmohar Enclave just two weeks back. You know how Delhi is, finding a good flat for a bachelor is a headache. "No loud music," "No girls allowed," "Come home by 10 PM." Too much drama. But finally, I got a 2BHK on the second floor. It is a decent middle-class colony. People here have money but they don't show off too much, except for a few families.
From my balcony, I can see the whole park and the parking lot. That is where the real life happens. I like to stand there with my chai and just watch. You learn a lot about people just by looking at how they walk and talk.
Everyone told me, "Stay away from Block C folks, they are very high-fi." But my flat is right facing Block C. And that is where she lives. Mrs. Kashvi. I didn’t know her name then, I just saw her drying clothes. She looked very simple, wearing a cotton suit, no makeup. But the way she moved... it was different.
Scene 1: The Society Meeting
It was Sunday evening. The RWA (Residents Welfare Association) called a meeting for the upcoming Diwali Mela. My landlord, Mr. Gupta, told me, "Vihan beta, you come also. Good for networking."
I didn't want to go, but I went. They put plastic chairs in the central park. About 20-30 people were there. Mostly uncles discussing water tank issues.
Then I saw her. Kashvi. She came with her husband. Her husband, Nimit, was walking in front, talking loudly on the phone.
Nimit: (Into the phone) "Arre listen na, I told the manager, if the loan is not sanctioned today, I will escalate. Haan! Okay, hold on."
He cut the call and looked at the RWA President.
Nimit: "Sharma Uncle! What is this arrangements? The tent house guy is asking for too much money. I checked the rates in the market."
Kashvi was walking two steps behind him. She was wearing a light yellow saree today, with a deep cut blouse, but she had pinned the pallu very properly so nothing was visible. She sat down quietly in the back row.
I sat on the side, pretending to check my phone.
Mrs. Chaddha: (Sitting next to Kashvi) "Kashvi beta, you are looking tired? Maid didn't come today?"
Kashvi: (Smiling, voice very soft) "No Aunty, she came. Just a bit of headache. Nimit wanted tea three times since morning. Sunday na, so lot of work."
Mrs. Chaddha: "These husbands na, they think Sunday is holiday for everyone. My mister is same. By the way, your friend... that tall girl, Eshani? She came yesterday in that big car?"
Suddenly, Kashvi’s expression changed. Just for a micro-second. Her eyes sparkled.
Kashvi: "Haan, Eshani came. She is just... passing by."
Mrs. Chaddha: "Very modern girl she is. Wearing such short clothes. You tell her to be careful, colony boys are not good."
Kashvi looked down, and I swear I saw a small smirk on her lips. A hidden smile.
Kashvi: "She manages, Aunty. She is very... open-minded. I just listen to her stories."
Nimit: (Turning back loudly) "Kashvi! Give me water bottle. Throat is drying."
Kashvi immediately stood up. "Ji, giving."
She walked past me to get the bag. As she crossed me, her saree brushed my knee. She stopped and looked at me. It was the first time we made eye contact. Her eyes were big, brown, and looked very innocent, but looking deep into them, I felt like she was scanning me.
Vihan: "Sorry... space is less here."
Kashvi: "It's okay. You are the new tenant? 202?"
Vihan: "Yes. Vihan."
Kashvi: "I am Kashvi. 302. Opposite building."
Nimit: (Shouting) "Kashvi! Water!"
Kashvi: (Turning to him, rolling her eyes slightly so only I could see) "Coming Nimit!"
She gave me one last look—it wasn't a "hello" look. It was a "save me from this boring man" look. Then she walked away, hips swaying slightly more than necessary. I sat there thinking... this simple housewife is not so simple.
