“How do you feel?” Abhi asked softly

His voice low and filled with tenderness.

Madhavi gave a small, contented smile,

Her fingers gently tracing the line of his jaw.

“I feel... complete,” she whispered

Her voice thick with emotion. “Like everything I’ve been waiting for has finally fallen into place.”

Abhi leaned down and kissed her softly, a gentle, lingering kiss.

That spoke of everything they had shared, of connection, of trust, of something deeper than just passion.

As he pulled back, he brushed his lips over her forehead

His hand gently cupping the side of her face.

Madhavi closed her eyes for a moment

Letting the warmth of the kiss wash over her.

She felt a deep sense of peace, the kind that only came after something profound.

Her body felt alive,

Humming with the aftermath of their union, and yet there was a calmness,

A satisfaction that settled in her chest.

Abhi shifted beside her, Propping himself up on one elbow as he looked down at her.

“I don’t think I’ll ever forget this,” he said quietly. “Not ever.”

Madhavi smiled softly.

Her fingers brushing against his hand as she intertwined them.

“Neither will I,” she murmured.

The silence that followed wasn’t uncomfortable;

Rather, it was filled with a quiet understanding

An intimacy that had only deepened between them.

There was no need for grand gestures or words to fill the space.

They simply lay there, together, as the soft hum of their bodies slowly returned to a gentle rhythm.

Abhi pulled her closer, wrapping his arm around her as they settled into the comfort of the bed,

The sheets tangled around them.

His fingers traced small patterns on her back, soothing and calm

As if the world had returned to its proper pace,

And they were simply two people, caught in the quiet bliss of shared intimacy.

Her golden white skin was glowing naked under those lights.

Abhi could not still believe that she is sleeping completely naked next to him like that.

He could not believe this moment is real

Madhavi’s eyes fluttered closed, a peaceful smile on her lips.

She felt safe, cherished, and more connected to him than she ever had.

The night, with its quiet, tender aftermath, was theirs to hold.

And in that stillness, they both knew that something had shifted

Not just in their bodies, but in their hearts as well.

Everything felt right.

Everything felt like it was meant to be.

He couldn’t help but reach up and tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear,

His touch gentle, as if he was afraid of disturbing the calm they’d found together.

"You’re amazing," he murmured softly.

His voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t know what I did to deserve this.”

Madhavi smiled at his words, her fingers brushing over his chest

Tracing the outline of his muscles absentmindedly.

"We both deserve it," she said quietly

Her voice thick with emotion.

“We’ve both been waiting for this... for something real.”

The room was bathed in a soft, golden light,

the quiet aftermath of their time together wrapping around them like a comforting blanket.

The tension and anticipation had melted away

Leaving only the serene connection that now tethered them to one another.

Abhi let out a long breath

His body relaxing fully, as he wrapped his arms around her.

“I’m glad we’re here,” he said.

His voice soft but sincere. "I didn’t want this to end."

Madhavi’s smile widened slightly, her fingers lightly tracing his arm.

"It doesn’t have to," she whispered.

Her voice full of promise. “We’ve just begun.”

Madhavi turned her head to look at him

A small smile on her lips as her fingers brushed through his hair.

"You don’t have to leave yet," she said softly, her voice low, almost hesitant.

Abhi met her gaze, his eyes soft,

But there was a knowing thought between them.

"I know," he said, his voice thick with emotion.

"But I think it's time."

"Sandeep may come soon.. any minute"

They both know, Abhi has to leave now.

If Sandeep comes while he is here, they cannot even imagine that.

They both lay there for a moment longer,

The space between them still charged with the quiet energy of the day

Before Abhi gently pulled himself up.

He stretched, his muscles still relaxed from the shared intimacy.

And then slowly stood up, his feet touching the cool floor.

He didn’t rush to get dressed

Taking his time as he turned to face her one last time

His expression thoughtful and calm.

Madhavi sat up in the bed, the sheets falling gently around her,

Her hair mussed from their time together.

Her gaze never left him as she watched him begin to dress,

The small movement of him pulling his shirt over his head,

His muscles flexing with each motion, as if the very sight of him was burned into her memory.

With one last look at her, Abhi walked toward the door, his hand resting on the handle.

He paused for a moment, glancing back over his shoulder.

"I’ll see you soon," he said, his voice full of quiet promise.

"Take care of yourself," she replied, her voice soft and full of warmth.

With a final, lingering gaze, Abhi left the room

The door clicking softly behind him.

Madhavi sat there for a moment longer.

Her fingers slowly tracing the sheets.

The stillness of the room wrapping around her as she let the reality of the moment settle in.

She stood there for a moment longer, her thoughts drifting.

Everything had changed, but in the most beautiful way.

Madhavi smiled softly to herself, knowing that life would continue.

But

That moment

That quiet intimacy they had shared

Would stay with her forever.

Sunday Lunch – The Invitation

The call came mid-morning.

Abhi was making coffee in his kitchen when his phone rang

Sandeep.

Abhi frooze for a moment before picking the call.

“Hey, Abhi!” came the familiar voice,

Warm and casual.

“Madhavi made fish curry and rice today. Thought of you. Why don’t you come over for lunch?”

Abhi’s heart slowed.

Fish curry.

Madhavi’s hands.

Madhavi’s eyes from last night.

He swallowed. “I’d love to, thanks.”

“Come by around one?”

“Sure. I’ll be there.”

Click...

He stood still for a long second,

The coffee mug forgotten in his hand.

Sunday Lunch – Beneath the Surface

When Abhi stepped into Flat 202, it was like walking into a dream from the night before.

Madhavi was wearing a soft green cotton saree

Her hair loosely braided, gold studs glinting in her ears.

She looked fresh, rested, untouched by guilt.

And yet, her eyes locked with his for a fraction too long when he entered.

“Hey,” she said quietly, folding her hands before turning toward the kitchen.

Sandeep greeted him with cheerful ease.

“There he is! Come in, man! We’re just about to sit.”

The table was already set

Steel tumblers, polished spoons, fragrant curry in clay pots, and steaming rice.

Abhi took the seat opposite Madhavi.

Sandeep sat to Abhi’s left, in between them.

A buffer, and yet not enough of one.

The meal began with laughter and anecdotes, mostly Sandeep’s.

He talked about office,

Shared silly stories about a colleague's Goa plans, and dropped jokes in between bites.

But beneath the table, something else unfolded.

At first, Abhi’s knee bumped Madhavi’s lightly, an accident.

She flinched slightly, but didn’t look up.

Just reached for the rasam.

Then, a minute later, he did it again.

This time slower, deliberate.

His knee stayed against hers.

Still, no reaction.

Only the faintest tightening of her lips.

Then… he let his foot slide inward, grazing the inside of her ankle.

Sandeep is there, right in front of them.

She paused mid-chew.

Her eyes lifted to meet his.

Calm on the surface, but blazing inside.

Sandeep said something about cricket.

Madhavi nodded politely, but her body had frozen.

Abhi, emboldened now, let his foot slowly nudge up along her calf.

Her lips parted slightly, almost imperceptibly

Before she bent her head to scoop more rice.

Sandeep was helping himself to pickle. “You still follow IPL, Abhi?”

“Haven’t kept up lately,” Abhi replied smoothly.

All the while tracing slow,

Teasing circles with his toe behind the veil of the tablecloth.

Madhavi’s breath hitched as her fingers tightened around her spoon.

But then, a bold moment.

She shifted slightly, and her foot pressed gently back

Against the side of his ankle.

It wasn’t an accident.

It wasn’t passive.

She was responding.

His pulse spiked.

She didn’t look at him once.

She didn’t need to.

The fire was there

Burning low and constant beneath the conversation.

Sandeep chuckled, spooning more curry onto Abhi’s plate.

“You should come over more often, man. Maddi’s cooking like this only when guests are around.

“She’s amazing,” Abhi murmured

But his eyes were on her, and she felt it.

That word landed between them with heat.

Madhavi stood suddenly. “You want papad?” she asked.

“No,” both men said at the same time.

She didn’t move.

She was steadying herself.

________________________________________

After the meal

They all sat in the living room for a while

Sandeep turned on a cricket match

Pulling Abhi into easy chatter.

But Abhi could barely focus.

His leg still tingled from the stolen touches.

His eyes kept drifting to the hallway

The one that led to her bedroom.

She didn’t return to the room after taking the plates away.

She didn’t need to.

She had said everything without saying a word.

Sunday Late Afternoon – Movie Afternoon

The movie had started.

A breezy Telugu comedy, Sandeep’s pick, played on the TV.

He sat at the center of the long three-seater couch, one leg stretched up, snacking on chakli from a steel dabba.

His laugh came easily.

Abhi had taken the seat to his right.

Madhavi had taken the far right, single couch

It should’ve been unremarkable.

Except for one small detail:

the wide beige cotton couch had no armrests between seats, only three large cushions to divide space—

and Madhavi’s saree-clad thigh, just under the dbang, was ever so close to Abhi’s.

Close enough that if either shifted by an inch…

She didn’t.

Neither did he.

Sandeep handed Abhi a glass of cold Fanta without looking away from the screen.

“You’ve got to try this scene, bro. Wait, wait, wait… this guy pretends to be his own twin, it’s mad.”

Abhi chuckled, accepting the drink.

As he reached forward to take the glass,

his wrist brushed against the edge of Madhavi’s pallu, not a dramatic touch, not deliberate…

but her fingers adjusted it quietly, slowly, as if to acknowledge the contact.

He glanced at her, just the corner of his eye.

She didn’t look at him.

But her hand slid down to rest on her lap,

The fingers spreading just slightly.

The movement should have meant nothing.

To Sandeep, it didn’t.

To Abhi, it meant everything.

The curve of her wrist near the saree’s border, the silent arch of her fingers, soft, still, inviting.

She hadn’t touched him.

But her skin was barely two inches from his knee.

On screen, a loud slapstick scene drew laughter from Sandeep.

“God, I forgot how dumb these dialogues are,” he said between mouthfuls of chakli.

Abhi smiled, but didn’t respond.

Madhavi leaned forward just slightly to grab the remote lying on the coffee table in front of them.

As she did, her side brushed his upper thigh, slow enough to be unmistakable.

Her breath was steady.

Her expression was neutral.

She handed the remote to Sandeep casually.

“Volume’s a little low,” she said.

Sandeep nodded, turning it up.

Abhi’s pulse didn’t settle.

The scent of jasmine from her hair, still tied in a loose low bun, floated faintly toward him.

Her saree rustled as she sat back, and this time, her left foot stretched slightly…

pressing gently against his beneath the coffee table.

A soft, deliberate nudge. Then retreat. Like the tide.

Sandeep didn’t notice.

He was too busy giggling at a dialogue.

Abhi didn’t move his foot at first.

He just let it rest close, very close, to hers.

He slowly moved his foot

Their skin grazed at the ankles.

Nothing visible. Nothing scandalous.

But every nerve in Abhi’s body sharpened with the awareness of it.

Madhavi finally looked at him.

Her face calm.

Her eyes unreadable.

Then, just as Sandeep reached for the chakli tin again.

She leaned sideways to him and said under her breath, with a touch of dry amusement:

“Comedies aren’t always mindless. Some of them… hide very twisted plots.”

She didn’t blink.

Abhi smiled. “I think this one’s already gone into dangerous territory.”

Neither of them meant the movie.

Sunday Late afternoon continues

Inside, the movis is over

The living room buzzed gently with the sound of a playlist Madhavi had put on, low instrumental jazz.

Sandeep, relaxed T-shirt, was arranging snacks on the center table.

Popcorn, peanuts, a few biscuits.

“Alright,” he announced cheerfully. “Game time. Cards or Carrom?”

Madhavi stepped out of the kitchen, wiping her hands.

She’d changed into a simple lavender cotton kurti,

but it hugged her waist just enough to linger in Abhi’s peripheral vision.

Her hair was loose now, falling in gentle waves around her shoulders.

“Cards,” she said with a quick glance at Abhi. “Let’s keep it dangerous.”

Abhi, seated on the floor near the couch, smiled. “Only if someone doesn’t cheat.”

Sandeep groaned. “Madhavi is the worst. She smuggled two jokers into the last game.”

“Don’t reveal my secrets,” she said, sitting cross-legged directly across from Abhi.

They began dealing.

Just as Abhi looked down at his cards, his phone buzzed softly.

A muted notification. WhatsApp.

He glanced at it discreetly.

Madhavi: “You look too calm. I want to rattle you.”

He looked up.

Her eyes met his, only briefly

Then she turned back to her cards.

Sandeep was still busy shuffling the next deck.

A few seconds later, another buzz.

Madhavi: “Did you notice how I sat?”

He did now.

She had folded her legs in such a way that her kurti had slipped just slightly up her thigh.

Not scandalously, but enough for her skin to be visible to only him,

Just above the knee. Smooth, untouched by light.

Her anklet shifted softly when she moved.

Abhi typed slowly, one hand under the table.

Abhi: “You’re unfair.”

Madhavi: “You haven’t even seen what’s hidden under the hem.”

His breath caught. The cards blurred momentarily in his hand.

Sandeep laughed at something on the playlist. “Man, this song is such a throwback! Remember college fests?”

“Hmm,” Abhi managed.

Madhavi reached forward to adjust the cards

Her fingers grazing his wrist as she did.

It was a feather, light touch. But deliberate.

Another message pinged.

Madhavi: “You didn’t flinch. Are you always this controlled?”

He smiled slightly, almost invisible.

He replied:

Abhi: “No. I’m burning.”

Her lips curled—not into a full smile

But into something far more dangerous: satisfaction.

Sandeep was chewing on peanuts, scrolling through his phone.

“Babe, I’ll be right back. My cousin sent those Europe pictures.”

He got up, walked toward the bedroom.

The door clicked shut.

They had a few seconds of privacy.

Madhavi didn’t move closer.

She didn’t say a word.

She simply lifted the hem of her kurti by a few inches more

Just enough to let Abhi glimpse the soft, shadowed curve of her upper thigh.

She wasn't wearing anything underneath her kurti...

Then she smoothed it back down, deliberately slow.

And whispered, not even fully audible,

Abhi stared at her, breath shallow.

Sandeep re-entered. “He went paragliding! Lucky bugger.”

Abhi turned just in time to nod.

Madhavi picked up the cards, utterly composed.

But beneath the table, her foot found Abhi’s again.

This time, she didn’t move away.

Tuesday Evening – Walkway Conversation

The corridor outside their apartments was calm.

The overhead lights had just flickered on, casting a soft amber glow on the freshly swept floor.

The hum of a distant pressure cooker and a TV from someone else's flat filled the silence.

Abhi coming back from office.

Just as he turned toward the stairs,

Meghana stepping down the stairs from 403.

She paused when she saw him… Their eyes met.

There was no hiding that long, searching second.

“Hey,” she said softly.

“Hey,” he echoed. “Evening walk?”

“Just needed air.”

They stood there in the middle of the corridor, not too close, not far either.

The same place where they had once passed each other with brief smiles.

Everything felt different now.

A gentle wind moved through the hallway, rustling the trailing end of Meghana’s dupatta.

She crossed her arms lightly, then unfolded them again.

“You heard from her?” Abhi asked quietly.

Meghana shook her head,

A faint sigh slipping through her lips. “Not since the last blue ticks.”

Abhi stared down into his cup. “It’s been a few days?”

“Since last Thursday.” she said.

He looked up, surprised at her precision.

“She said she needed space. I thought she’d call after a couple of days, but…” Meghana’s voice trailed off.

“She was strong when she left,” Abhi murmured. “She didn’t flinch.”

“She was pretending not to flinch,” Meghana corrected gently.

Another pause.

“I keep wondering if we broke something,” he admitted,

The weight in his voice thicker than usual.

“We didn’t break her,” Meghana said firmly. “She just… stepped into something bigger than she thought she could handle.”

He nodded slowly. “She lit the fire. But maybe she didn’t think it would warm all of us this much.”

Meghana gave a wry smile. “You’re getting poetic again.”

He smiled faintly. Then the smile faded.

“Do you miss her?”

Meghana didn’t answer immediately.

She looked up at the ceiling, eyes tracing the pattern of shadows.

Then finally:

“I miss the way she filled the room. Her loud music. Her messy towel on the chair. Her pointless questions at midnight.”

Abhi looked at her. “I miss the way she made things lighter.”

Meghana smiled at that. “She did, didn’t she?”

They stood in silence for a moment longer

Both caught in the same orbit of memories.

Then Meghana tilted her head. “We’ll hear from her soon.”

“You sure?”

“I have to be.” Her voice was soft but certain. “She’s my sister. And she’s too curious to stay away from us for long.”

That last word…  “us” … hung in the air.

Abhi looked at her.

Their shared understanding didn’t need clarification.

Just then, someone upstairs closed a door with a thud, jolting them slightly.

“I should go,” Meghana said, adjusting her dupatta.

Abhi stepped back slightly. “Yeah.”

As she turned toward her flat, she paused, glanced over her shoulder.

“If she comes back… will you be ready?”

He met her gaze. Calm, sure.

“I was always ready. For both of you.”

A smile tugged at her lips. Not flirtatious. Not teasing. Just full of truth.

She nodded, then slipped outside.

She left leaving the memories behind.

And Abhi stood there, alone in the corridor,

Something inside him warmer than it had been all week.

Varnika (10:57 PM):
Hmm. Sounds dangerously close to flirty.
Goodnight, Mr. Not-So-Shy-Anymore.
Don’t dream about me too obviously. ?

Abhi bit his lower lip, smiling wide now.

Abhi (10:58 PM):
Too late.
Already started.

No reply came after that.

Just the quiet glow of the phone screen dimming… and the soft heat left behind by her final message.

Hi Shailu,
I'm really enjoying your writing style, particularly your right use of words and expressions. They add a lot of charm and personality to the story.

Specific examples that stood out to me include the exchange where Varnika asks, "What are you staring for?" and Abhiram replies with the playfully suggestive, "There is a lot to choose from." That's a great line!

Another memorable dialogue is the "If you behave, you can see me..." line. The implied question hanging in the air, "If I don't behave...?", adds a delicious layer of suspense.

And I can't forget Varnika's declaration, "I like dangers." That simple sentence immediately tells us so much about her character – her boldness, her thrill-seeking nature, and even more.

These specific moments, along with the overall narrative style, are key highlights of the story for me. They're what keep me engaged and eager to see where the plot and characters go next. Keep up the great work!

Hi tweeny_fory,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share such thoughtful feedback after a long time.

It truly made my day!

I’m thrilled that those particular moments stood out to you. It means a lot to hear that the dialogue and the tone landed well.

The playful tension between Varnika and Abhiram is something I’ve really enjoyed crafting, so your comments about those scenes—especially the “There’s a lot to choose from” and the “If you behave…” line—made me smile.

I also really appreciate you picking up on Varnika’s personality. Her boldness is definitely a defining trait, but I’m glad her mischief came through too. It’s that teasing unpredictability that keeps things interesting between her and Abhi.

Your feedback is so encouraging and helps fuel my excitement to keep writing.

I’d love for you to keep reading as the story unfolds, and please do keep letting me know your thoughts.

Your perspective genuinely helps shape the journey!

Warmly,

Thursday Evening – The Call That Feels Like Coming Home

Abhi was leaning back on his recliner, one leg over the armrest,

Flipping through the news mindlessly on his phone.

The apartment was dim, lit only by a corner lamp that washed the walls with soft gold.

Outside, the city was winding down.

The ceiling fan hummed in rhythm with the quiet.

His phone buzzed.

Meghana.

Not a message.

A call.

His heart lifted, not racing, but lifting, like a boat unmoored.

He sat up and answered.

Abhi:
“Hey…”

There was a brief silence, then her voice, a touch softer than usual.

Meghana:
“Hey you… hope I didn’t call at a bad time.”

Abhi:
“No, it’s a perfect time actually.”

He smiled without meaning to.

“It’s been a while.”

Meghana:
“It has… I wasn’t sure if calling would be too much.”

Abhi:
“No. In fact, this whole week felt a little incomplete without one of our long pauses and deep exhales.”

She chuckled gently, her voice lowering.

Meghana:
“Tell me about it. My mornings have been stiff and awkward. I kept looking at the yoga mat… and sighing.”

Abhi:
“Mine didn’t even get unrolled.”

A beat passed. Then her tone shifted just slightly, lighter,

A hint of a smile forming in her words.

Meghana:
Maybe it’s time we stop sighing and start moving again.”

Abhi:
“So… yoga date tomorrow morning?”

His voice playful but low, rich with intent.

Meghana:
“6:45? I’ll unlock the door like old times. You can quietly slip in and pretend like nothing ever happened.”

Abhi:
“Or everything did. And we’re just really good at carrying it with grace.”

There was a pause.

She didn’t speak.

But he could hear her breathing.

He knew that sound

It was her soft exhale when she smiled without wanting to.

Then she added, a little more serious now:

Meghana:
“By the way… I spoke to Varnika yesterday.”

Abhi sat up straighter, heart quietly alert.

Abhi:
“How is she?”

Meghana:
“She’s… steadier now. Calmer.
 She didn’t say much,
but I could hear her smile through the phone.
She said she needed the break.
And that she’ll be back in a few days.”

Abhi let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

Abhi:
“I’m glad. I was worried.”

Meghana:
“She knows, Abhi. She saw everything. But she’s not angry at anyone. Not anymore.”

Abhi:
“I hope so.”

Another moment passed.

Then Meghana's voice softened again, playful, like the edge of a whisper against the wind:

Meghana:
“So... about tomorrow morning. I’ve been thinking of trying something... new.”

Abhi:
“Oh?”

Meghana:
“Let’s just say I’ve been inventing again. But this one’s not as innocent as Heart-Knee Embrace.”

Abhi:
“Now that’s a dangerous sentence to drop and end the call with.”

She laughed, that beautiful warm ripple he hadn’t heard in days.

Meghana:
“Sleep early. You’ll need your breath tomorrow.”

Abhi:
“I’ll bring it. Every last one.”

She lingered for half a second more. Then

Meghana:
“Goodnight, Abhi.”

Abhi:
“Goodnight, Meghana.”

The line went quiet.

But the silence that followed was not empty

It was full.

Of knowing, of yearning, of the calm before a new beginning.
