As he walked past, some colleagues exchanged glances, whispering among themselves. He knew what they were thinking. He looked like a mess. He smelled like a mess. And inside, he felt like one too.

Srinu sat at his desk, trying to focus, but his mind betrayed him.

Every time he thought about Ganga, the guilt nearly choked him. Every time he thought about Swati, his body betrayed him, remembering the pleasure, the forbidden ecstasy.

How the fuck was he supposed to live with this?

Somehow, he made it through the day. He had no idea how, but he did.

When the office hours finally ended, he got on his bike, gripping the handles so tightly his knuckles turned white. The wind hit his face as he sped onto the road, but it did nothing to cool the fire raging inside him.

Srinu (to himself, whispering, voice heavy with regret): "How do I go home and look her in the eyes?"

The moment he sped past the first streetlight, they returned—Yin and Yang, the voices started arguing.

Yin – The voice of conscience. Stern. Cold. Unforgiving.
Yang – The voice of indulgence. Playful. Shameless. Reckless.

Yin (mocking, disappointed): "So, Srinu… tell me… how do you feel now? Proud? Accomplished? Did you fuck swati just to prove to yourself that you are a man who can also fuck?"

Srinu (clenching the bike handle, whispering to himself): "No… I feel like shit."

Yin (coldly): "That doesn’t justify his actions. He prided himself on being better. On being faithful."

Yang (mocking): "Oh please, spare me the bullshit. You really think loyalty means anything when the other person has been stepping all over it for years? Ganga fucked other men behind his back. He owed her nothing."

Srinu's grip tightened. His heart pounded.

Srinu (muttering, shaking his head): "It’s not the same. I should have controlled myself…"

Yin (pressing further): "But you didn’t. That’s the truth, isn’t it, Srinu? You lost control. You became the very thing you swore you wouldn’t be."

Srinu’s stomach twisted. He hated that Yin was right.

Yang (snorting): "God, Yin, will you stop acting like he committed some war crime? It was just sex. Hot, dirty, uncontrollable sex. You should be thanking me! If I wasn’t here, Srinu would’ve spent his whole life being a pathetic little cuck, letting Ganga fuck around while he stayed ‘loyal.’"

Yin (firmly): "Loyalty is not a weakness. It’s a principle. A commitment."

Yang (laughing): "Loyalty is a two-way street. And Ganga sure as hell never walked on it!"

Srinu’s heart pounded harder. Yang wasn’t wrong.

Srinu (whispering, hesitant): "…She did cheat on me. Over and over again."

Yin (immediately): "And you always took the high road. Because you are better than her. Or at least, you were…"

Yang (grinning, seizing the moment): "Keyword: were. But now? Now he’s finally played the game right! One point for Srinu! Finally, Ganga’s not the only one having all the fun."

Yin (sharply): "That’s not who he is!"

Yang (mocking): "That is who he is now. Or have you forgotten the way he pounded Swati behind that pani puri stand? The way he wanted her?"

Srinu closed his eyes for a second. He had wanted her. Every second of it had felt raw, primal, forbidden. And yet—

Yin (softly, almost disappointed): "And now you feel empty. Tell me I’m wrong."

Srinu swallowed hard.

Srinu (whispering): "You’re not."

Yang groaned dramatically.

Yang (rolling his eyes): "Oh for fuck’s sake, not this ‘guilt trip’ shit again. Srinu, bro, listen to me. It happened. It’s over. There’s no going back. And guess what? That’s fine. You didn’t kill anyone. You just took what was yours for once."

Yin (sternly): "And what now? Will you keep doing it? Keep betraying your own principles?"

Srinu (shaking his head, desperate): "No… I don’t want this to become a habit…"

Yang smirked.

Yang (casual, smug): "Good. Then let’s make a deal."

Yin (cautious): "What kind of deal?"

Yang (grinning): "Simple. We let this one go. One-time pass. Srinu gets a pardon from the guilt. He fucked Swati in the heat of the moment. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t premeditated. Just raw, animalistic sex."

Yin (narrowing his eyes): "And then?"

Yang (pointing a finger, serious now): "Then we never bring this up again. No self-loathing, no crying over spilled milk. No second round of ‘woe is me, I cheated.’"

Yin (dryly): "And what’s stopping him from doing it again?"

Yang (mocking): "Simple. He swears that this was the last time. Right, Srinu?"

Srinu exhaled, the weight of the moment pressing down on him.

Srinu (whispering, voice firm): "This was the last time."

Yang (grinning, satisfied): "There we go. That wasn’t so hard, was it?"

Yin (still skeptical, but nodding slowly): "Very well. One mistake. One sin. And then… we move on."

Yang (smirking): "See? Even Mr. High-and-Mighty Yin knows when to compromise."

The traffic lights changed. Srinu revved his bike, his mind quieter now, but his heart still heavy.

Yin had pardoned him—once.
Yang had justified him—once.

But there would be no second chances.

And as he rode toward home, toward Ganga, he couldn’t help but wonder—was he really strong enough to never do it again?

Srinu hesitated at the doorstep. The night air was thick, pressing down on him like a physical force. He wiped the sweat off his brow, but it wasn’t the summer heat that made him uneasy—it was the guilt, the heavy burden of the betrayal he carried.

He had never imagined this moment, never thought he would be the one to lie, to hide his sins from Ganga. Yet here he was, standing outside their home, afraid to face the woman he once thought he would never deceive.

With a deep breath, he reached for the door and knocked. A few seconds later, it swung open, revealing Ganga, her face set in a frown.

Ganga’s Anger – But Not for What He Feared

Her eyes immediately narrowed as she crossed her arms. “Where the hell were you?” she demanded, irritation clear in her voice.

Srinu tensed. For a brief second, panic gripped his chest, but her next words relieved him—only slightly.

“I had to pack my own bags! Do you even care that I’m leaving tomorrow?” she huffed, stepping aside to let him in.

Srinu exhaled. So she wasn’t angry because she suspected something—she was angry about being left alone to pack. A different kind of guilt now gnawed at him. He had been so consumed by his own sins that he had completely overlooked her frustration, her disappointment.

But before he could think of an apology, her anger seemed to falter. As her eyes scanned him from head to toe, the irritation melted into concern.

“What happened to you?” she asked, her voice softening.

Srinu glanced down at himself. His clothes were dirty, slightly disheveled—a clear sign of the reckless day he had lived. His mind raced for an excuse. “Ah... uh... the bike broke down,” he lied hesitantly. “Had to push it for a while.”

A moment later, she turned to face him, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Karle kya?” she whispered, her voice laced with teasing.

Srinu’s body tensed. His heart pounded in his chest. The image of Swati flashed in his mind. The taste of her lips, the heat of her skin—it was all still so fresh, too fresh. He couldn’t do it. Not tonight. Not with the weight of his sins still lingering in his soul.

Ganga studied his face. “What happened?” she asked, puzzled. “We won’t be seeing each other for days, anyway we will be meeting after a few days as you wont be coming with me".

She raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue. Instead, she snuggled closer, resting her head against his chest, her arms wrapped around him. For the first time in years, Srinu silently apologized to her in his heart.

He held her close, waiting.

Minutes passed. Ganga’s breathing grew steady, her body relaxed—she had fallen asleep. Srinu, however, was wide awake.

Slowly, he eased himself out of her embrace, careful not to wake her. He grabbed his phone from the bedside table and looked at her sleeping face. So peaceful. 

He took a deep breath, got out of bed, and walked toward the bathroom, locking the door behind him.

With shaky fingers, he opened Ganga’s diary. He had to know. He had to distract himself.

His eyes scanned the pages, searching for the next entry.
