CHAPTER - 7
Kavya stands by the large window of their 2BHK flat, gazing out at the bustling city below. The constant honking, the chatter of people, and the distant sounds of construction blend into a noisy symphony that’s become the background of her life in Mumbai. She sighs, feeling both the energy and the overwhelming chaos of the city.

KAVYA (Thinking)

"It’s been a month… A whole month since I left home, left everything familiar to be here, with Rahul. Mumbai... the city that never sleeps, they say. But for me, it's been a city that hasn't let me rest."
She turns away from the window and looks around the living room. It’s tastefully decorated, with modern furniture that Rahul insisted on buying before their wedding. But despite the polished decor, the place still feels foreign to her, more like a hotel than a home.
"I thought I’d get used to it by now, but… I still miss home. Everything’s so different here. The noise, the people… even the food. And with Rahul always busy, it’s just… lonely.
Kavya thought of searching for a job, maybe she won’t feel lonely and will be busy with her work. She started looking for some job listing in IT firm. After applying for some of those she stood again at the large window.

Kavya
(whispering to herself)
I thought I'd feel at home by now...
She glances at the coffee table in front of her, where a few job listings are scattered. Her laptop is open, but the screen has gone dark from inactivity. She hasn’t found anything promising yet, and each rejection feels like another weight added to her shoulders.

Kavya
(thinking)
Maybe I should have started looking earlier... But there was so much to do with the wedding, the move, settling in...
She brushes a strand of hair behind her ear, her eyes unfocused as she recalls the whirlwind of events that brought her to this point. The joy of getting married, the excitement of starting a new life, all now slightly tinged with the frustration of feeling stuck.
In the other room, Danish is seated at his desk, his laptop open as he works from home. His door is slightly ajar, and he occasionally glances out at the living room where Kavya is sitting. He can sense her unease, even though they haven't spoken much today.
Danish types away on his keyboard, the soft clacking of the keys blending with the ambient noise of his room. He's in the middle of a coding task but finds his concentration drifting. He thinks about how quiet Kavya has been lately, how she's always polite but distant.
Kavya finally pulls herself out of her thoughts and reaches for her phone. She scrolls through job postings again, her finger hovering over the screen as she hesitates to apply. She knows she needs to start working again, to find a purpose in this new city, but the process feels daunting.
Few more weeks passed like this and she is still looking for a job.
Kavya flips through job postings, her expression weary. She clicks through several listings but finds nothing that suits her qualifications or interests. Her phone buzzes with a new email, but it’s just another rejection.

Kavya
(sighing deeply)
Still nothing...
She closes her laptop and leans back on the sofa, her shoulders slumped. The flat feels unusually silent without Rahul’s presence. She’s been trying to keep busy and stay positive, but the mounting rejections are starting to take a toll on her.
These things making kavya irritated kind of frustrated, not getting a job, Rahul not spending enough time with her. All these things making the change in her behaviour.
As its late in the night but Rahul is still not at home and Danish is also in his room. She thought of talking to Danish but she thought maybe, so she doesn’t want to disturb him.
Rahul unlocked the door quietly, trying not to make much noise as he stepped into the dimly lit apartment. The clock on the wall showed it was well past midnight. He sighed, exhausted from another long day at work, but a part of him felt guilty for coming home so late—again.
He kicked off his shoes and made his way to the living room, where he found Kavya sitting on the couch, staring blankly at the TV. The volume was turned down low, and she didn’t even seem to notice him enter.
“Kavya?” Rahul called softly, moving closer.
She blinked and turned her head towards him, her expression a mix of surprise and weariness. “You’re back.”
“Yeah, sorry it’s so late.” He sat down beside her, noticing the tension in her posture. “You didn’t have to wait up.”
Kavya shrugged, her eyes drifting back to the TV. “I wasn’t really watching. Just… thinking.”
Rahul studied her face, the way her shoulders slumped. “What’s on your mind?”
She sighed heavily, running a hand through her hair. “It’s been a month, Rahul. A whole month in Mumbai, and I still haven’t found a job. I’ve sent out so many applications, gone to interviews, and nothing. Every rejection email feels like a slap in the face.”
“I know it’s tough,” Rahul said, reaching out to take her hand. “But you’re talented, Kavya. Something will come through.”
“But when?” she snapped, pulling her hand away. “You’re always at work, and I’m stuck here all day, feeling useless. I’m so frustrated, Rahul. I thought moving to Mumbai would be exciting, a fresh start, but it’s been nothing but disappointment.”
Rahul looked down, guilt gnawing at him. He knew how hard it was for her, and he hated that he couldn’t do more to help. “I’m sorry I haven’t been around as much. Work has been crazy, and I know that’s not fair to you.”
Kavya shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears. “It’s not just about you being busy. I feel like I’m losing myself here. I left everything behind for this move, and now I’m just... stuck. I feel so alone.”
Rahul wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. “You’re not alone, Kavya. We’ll figure this out together. I’ll try to be here more, okay? And we’ll keep looking for opportunities. Something will work out.”
Kavya leaned into him, tears spilling over. “I just don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this, Rahul. I need something to change.”
Rahul held her tighter, wishing he could take away her pain, knowing that all he could do was be there for her. “It will change, Kavya. I promise. We’ll get through this.”
They sat in silence for a while, the weight of unspoken worries hanging in the air, as the TV flickered in the background.

CHAPTER – 8

Rahul knelt beside her, gently placing a hand on her knee. "Kavya," he said softly, his voice tinged with concern. "I know this isn’t what you expected. I know you’re feeling low, and I hate that I haven’t been able to spend more time with you."
Kavya turned to him, her eyes meeting his. They were filled with unshed tears, reflecting the frustration she had been bottling up for weeks. "It’s just… I feel like I don’t belong here, Rahul. I thought I’d find a job by now, something that would make this move worth it, but I’m just sitting here all day, doing nothing. And you’re always so busy... I’m alone all the time."
Her voice cracked slightly as she spoke, and Rahul felt a pang of guilt. He had noticed her mood worsening over the weeks but had been too consumed with work to address it properly. "I’m sorry," he whispered, squeezing her knee gently. "I’ve been so caught up in everything that I haven’t been there for you. But I’m here now. Let me make it up to you."
He stood up, offering her his hand. Kavya hesitated for a moment before taking it, allowing him to lead her to the bedroom. Once inside, Rahul closed the door behind them, trying to create a space where they could reconnect without the distractions of the outside world.
He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. Kavya felt his warmth, the familiar scent of him comforting her slightly, though the weight of her frustrations remained. Rahul kissed her forehead, his lips lingering there as if trying to soothe away her worries. Then he kissed her cheek, trailing down to her lips, which he captured in a slow, tender kiss
Kavya responded, her hands moving to his back, gripping his shirt as if anchoring herself to him. The kiss deepened, and Rahul began to guide her toward the bed, his movements slow and deliberate, as if trying to reassure her that he was fully present with her in that moment.
They fell onto the bed, their kisses growing more passionate. Rahul’s hands roamed over her body, exploring every curve with a familiarity that brought them both a sense of comfort. Kavya’s heart began to race, her frustrations momentarily pushed aside as she allowed herself to get lost in the sensations he was creating.
Rahul's hand moved to cradle the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her hair as he pulled her closer. His kiss grew more passionate, his lips moving against hers with a hunger that seemed to have been building for weeks. Kavya responded in kind, her hands slipping around his neck, pulling him even closer as if she couldn’t get enough.
He tilted her head slightly to the side, giving him better access, and he took full advantage of it. Rahul’s lips left hers, trailing a line of soft, wet kisses down the side of her face, toward her jawline. Each kiss was slow, deliberate, as if he was savoring every inch of her skin. Kavya gasped softly, her body arching instinctively toward him as he continued his journey down to her neck.
Rahul lingered there, his lips pressing firmly against the sensitive skin of her neck. He kissed her just below her ear, his breath warm against her skin, sending shivers down her spine. Kavya’s heart raced, her breath coming in short, uneven gasps as he nuzzled her neck, his lips teasing and tasting her as if he couldn’t get enough.
With each kiss, Rahul seemed to pour more of himself into her, as if he was trying to communicate all the emotions he hadn’t been able to express with words. His lips moved across her neck, kissing, nibbling, and sucking in a rhythm that drove her wild, her hands clutching at his back, her nails digging into his skin as she lost herself in the sensation.
Rahul obliged, his kisses growing more passionate, more demanding as he trailed back up her neck to her lips. When he finally captured her mouth again, the kiss was fiery, intense, filled with all the longing and desire they had both been holding back. Their tongues danced together, exploring, tasting, each kiss more fervent than the last.
Kavya felt herself drowning in the intensity of the moment, her body aflame with need as Rahul’s kisses consumed her. Every brush of his lips against hers, every gentle nip and tender caress, sent waves of pleasure coursing through her. It was as if he was trying to make up for all the time they had lost, for every moment of loneliness and frustration she had felt, with the sheer force of his passion.
The world outside ceased to exist as they kissed, their connection deepening with every touch, every breath they shared. In that moment, nothing else mattered—only the heat of his lips on hers, the feel of his body pressed against hers, and the overwhelming desire that pulsed between them, binding them together in a way that words never could.
Rahul undressed her slowly, savoring each moment as if trying to draw out the connection between them. Kavya reciprocated, her hands working to remove his clothes with an urgency that hinted at her desire for something more, something to fill the emptiness she had been feeling.
As they came together, Rahul moved above her, his lips continuing to explore her body, kissing her neck, her collarbone, and lower still, leaving a trail of warmth in his wake. Kavya’s breath hitched, her body responding to his touch, the desire building inside her as she clung to him.
He entered her slowly, their bodies fitting together in a way that felt both familiar and desperately needed. Kavya moaned softly, her hands gripping his back, urging him to move. Rahul responded, his thrusts slow and deep at first, as if savoring each moment of their connection.
But as the intensity between them grew, Rahul felt the pressure building too quickly. His breath became ragged, and despite his best efforts to pace himself, he knew he was losing control. He tried to hold back, to prolong the moment for her sake, but it was no use. Within moments, he reached his peak, his body tensing as he released, collapsing against her with a shuddering breath.
Kavya felt him pull away too soon, her body still aching for more. She bit her lip, trying to mask her disappointment, but Rahul sensed it immediately. He rolled off her, lying beside her on the bed, his arm dbangd over his eyes in frustration.
"I’m sorry, Kavya," he whispered, his voice thick with guilt. "I wanted to make you feel better, to show you how much I care, but…"
Kavya turned to him, her hand resting on his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart. She gave him a small, understanding smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "It’s okay, Rahul," she said softly, but she knew it wasn’t entirely true. The frustration she had been feeling earlier began to creep back in, despite her attempts to push it away.
Rahul pulled her close, holding her tightly as if trying to make up for his inability to satisfy her in other ways. They lay there in silence, the weight of unspoken words hanging heavy in the air. Kavya closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his embrace, but deep down, the emptiness remained, a void that their connection, however deep, couldn’t entirely fill.

CHAPTER – 9

Kavya lay in the darkness, the quiet hum of the ceiling fan above her providing a constant, low rhythm in the stillness of the room. The faint glow of the moon filtered through the curtains, casting pale light across the bedroom. She could hear Rahul’s breathing beside her, slow and steady, signaling that he had already drifted into sleep. His arm was loosely wrapped around her waist, a gesture that should have brought comfort, but tonight it felt more like a reminder of the distance between them.
It had been a month since their arranged marriage—a union that was meant to be the start of a new chapter in both of their lives. On the surface, everything seemed fine. Their families were happy, they got along well, and they shared polite conversations during the day. But beneath that calm exterior, Kavya felt a growing unease and frustration that she couldn’t ignore.
Tonight had been another night like the ones before—filled with hope that quickly turned into disappointment. The moment had begun with a spark of anticipation, a silent wish that perhaps this time things would be different. But once again, the spark fizzled out before it could fully ignite. Rahul had tried, she could tell he wanted to make her happy, but it ended too soon, leaving her lying there, unsatisfied and increasingly disheartened.
She sighed quietly, careful not to wake him, and stared up at the ceiling, her thoughts swirling. She had never imagined that this part of marriage would be so difficult. Growing up, she had heard stories from friends and seen romanticized versions of love and intimacy in movies, but the reality she was living was far from what she had expected.
Kavya felt a pang of guilt as her mind drifted to thoughts she didn’t want to entertain. It wasn’t Rahul’s fault, she reminded herself. He was kind, caring, and always treated her with respect. But there was an unspoken need inside her, a longing for something more than what she was getting—a deeper connection, a sense of fulfillment that remained elusive.
She turned slightly, glancing at Rahul’s peaceful face in the dim light. He looked content, completely unaware of the turmoil churning within her. How could he be so oblivious? Didn’t he notice the sadness in her eyes, the way she avoided his touch sometimes, or how she quickly pulled away after their attempts at intimacy? Kavya wondered if he even realized that something was wrong, or if he was just relieved that the subject hadn’t come up.
The thought of talking to him about it made her stomach tighten with anxiety. They hadn’t known each other long enough to share this kind of vulnerability. Their marriage had been arranged, after all, and though they had grown fond of each other, there was still a lingering formality between them. How could she bring up something so personal, so intimate, without making him feel inadequate or hurting his pride?
But how long could she continue like this? The dissatisfaction was beginning to seep into other parts of her life. She found herself growing irritable over small things, feeling more and more disconnected from Rahul. She didn’t want to resent him, but with each passing day, the weight of her unspoken desires pressed down on her, making it harder to maintain the façade of a happy newlywed.
Kavya closed her eyes, trying to push away the negative thoughts, but they clung to her like a shadow. She had always believed that love could grow over time, that intimacy would come naturally as they got to know each other better. But a month had passed, and instead of feeling closer to Rahul, she felt like they were drifting further apart.
Her mind wandered back to the advice her mother had given her before the wedding. “Marriage is about compromise,” she had said. “It’s not always perfect, but you have to make it work.” Kavya had nodded dutifully at the time, but now those words felt heavy, as if they were asking her to settle for something less than what she had hoped for.
But was it fair to expect more? Kavya wondered if her expectations were too high, if she was being unreasonable. Maybe this was just how things were, and she needed to accept it. But another part of her, the part that still held onto dreams of a deeper connection, refused to let go of the idea that there could be more—that she could feel more.
As she lay there, her thoughts tumbling over each other in a chaotic swirl, Kavya realized she was at a crossroads. She could continue to pretend that everything was fine, hoping that eventually, things would change on their own. Or she could find the courage to talk to Rahul, to share her feelings and try to bridge the gap between them.
But the latter option terrified her. What if he didn’t understand? What if he took it the wrong way, or worse, what if he couldn’t do anything to change the situation? Kavya wasn’t sure if she was ready to face the possibility that this might be as good as it gets.
The night stretched on, and still, Kavya found no answers. She felt trapped between her own desires and the fear of disrupting the fragile balance they had managed to build in their short time together. The idea of spending the rest of her life in this state of quiet discontent filled her with a deep sense of dread, but the alternative—to confront it and risk everything—seemed just as daunting.
She took a deep breath and she gently lifted Rahul’s arm from her waist and slid out of bed. Her nighty, a delicate, knee-length garment with a deep neckline, whispered softly against her skin as she moved. The fabric clung to her curves, and her chooda, the traditional red and white bangles of a newlywed, jingled faintly with each step. The cool night air of the room brushed against her exposed shoulders, heightening her awareness of her own restlessness.
She walked across the room, her bare feet feeling the chill of the floor. She needed solitude, a moment to clear her thoughts, and so she made her way toward the bathroom. But just as she reached for the door, she was startled by a sudden presence.
Danish stood in the hallway. The faint glow from the hallway lights cast a soft halo around him. He wore a black tank top that clung to his athletic frame and shorts that showcased his well-defined legs. His tousled hair and sleep-rumpled appearance gave him an effortlessly intense look. For a moment, their eyes met, and the air between them seemed to crackle with unspoken tension.
Kavya’s breath caught in her throat. She had not expected to see him here, especially not at this hour. Danish’s gaze roamed over her, She felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment, suddenly hyper-aware of her attire. The thin straps of her nighty felt too revealing, and she wished she had thought to grab a robe before leaving the bedroom. Danish lingering on the deep neckline of her nighty. The fabric dipped low, revealing a subtle curve of her upper swells. His eyes were dark and brooding, a mix of surprise and something else—something charged and intense.
Danish’s voice broke the silence, low and husky from sleep. “Kavya… Didn’t mean to startle you.”
The way he said her name, with that deep timbre, sent a shiver down her spine. Kavya forced herself to meet his gaze, but she felt her cheeks flush as she noticed how his eyes followed the curve of her neckline. The air seemed to thicken around them, and she could smell his cologne, a blend of cedarwood and musk that was both comforting and heady.
“I—” She struggled to find her voice. “I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Danish took a step closer, his presence almost overwhelming. He was so close now that Kavya could feel the warmth emanating from his body, a stark contrast to the cool night air. His gaze never wavered from hers, and Kavya felt her pulse quicken, her breath catching as his eyes roamed over her again, this time lingering on her exposed skin.
She tried to move aside, but her back hit the bathroom door. She was trapped, with Danish standing so near that she could see the fine lines of his muscles through his tank top. The intensity of his stare was almost palpable, a physical force that made it hard to think clearly.
“You look like you need some fresh air,” Danish said, his voice soft but edged with an underlying warmth that made Kavya’s heart race. His eyes flicked to the side, almost involuntarily, lingering on her chooda and then returning to her face.
Kavya felt a flush spread across her cheeks, her body reacting to the proximity and the heat of his gaze. “I—yes, I suppose I do,” she managed to say, her voice barely more than a whisper. She was acutely aware of the way his gaze made her feel, as though he was seeing her in a way that was both intimate and intense.
As Danish moved past her, their arms brushed briefly, and Kavya felt a jolt of electricity at the contact. The touch was fleeting, but it left her skin tingling, her senses heightened. The warmth of his body, the strength of his arm, and the faint scent of his cologne all combined to create an intoxicating mix that left her feeling disoriented and alive.
Danish paused in the doorway, his broad shoulders filling the space. He glanced back at her, his eyes dark and filled with a mix of curiosity and something deeper, something that made Kavya’s heart race. “I’ll let you be,” he said softly, his voice low and deliberate.
Kavya went inside the bathroom and leaned against the bathroom sink, trying to compose herself, but the lingering heat of Danish’s touch was impossible to ignore. She could still feel the ghost of his fingers on her arm, the warmth of his body radiating through the thin fabric of her nighty. The scent of his cologne, rich and musky, hung in the air, adding to the dizzying mix of emotions she was experiencing.
As she turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on her face, she tried to erase the memory of their encounter, but it only seemed to make the sensation more vivid. Each drop of water felt like a sharp contrast to the warmth that had enveloped her when Danish had been close. Her reflection in the mirror seemed to mock her, her cheeks flushed and her eyes wide with a mix of confusion and desire.
She had barely regained her composure when she heard a soft knock on the bathroom door. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized it was Danish, his presence once again intruding on her solitude.
“Kavya?” His voice was low and tentative, carrying a subtle warmth that made her pulse quicken. “Everything alright in there?”
Kavya’s breath caught in her throat. She hesitated for a moment before opening the door slightly, just enough to see him standing there, his gaze searching her face. The sight of him, framed by the dim light from the hallway, only intensified the feelings that had been stirred inside her.
“Yes,” she replied, her voice wavering slightly. “Just needed a moment.”
Danish’s eyes softened as he looked at her, the intensity of his gaze now mingled with a genuine concern that made her heart race. “I’m sorry if I startled you earlier,” he said, his voice carrying a soothing yet compelling quality. “I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Kavya found herself unable to look away from him. The way he stood there, tall and strong, his tank top clinging to his chiseled frame, made her acutely aware of how close they were. The space between them felt charged, every breath she took drawing her closer to the magnetic pull of his presence.
“It’s fine,” she managed to say, though her voice was barely more than a whisper. She could feel the tension between them thickening, almost palpable, and her pulse quickened as she caught the faint glimmer of desire in his eyes.
Danish took a step closer, his gaze dropping to her lips before returning to her eyes. “Are you sure you’re okay?” His voice was even softer now, almost intimate, as though he was confiding in her.
Kavya nodded, but her throat felt dry. The proximity of Danish’s body was overwhelming, and she could feel the heat of his breath against her skin. The way he looked at her, the concern mingled with an undeniable intensity, made her heart race and her breath hitch.
Before she could respond, Danish reached out and gently touched her arm, his fingers grazing her skin with a feather-light touch that sent a jolt of electricity through her. The contact was brief but lingered, making her acutely aware of the heat between them. She could feel the strength in his touch, the warmth of his skin, and it was all she could do to keep from leaning into him.
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” Danish said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. “But if you need anything, I’m here.”
The sincerity in his voice was undeniable, but it was the way he looked at her—his eyes dark and full of unspoken promise—that made her breath catch. Kavya felt a wave of conflicting emotions: desire, guilt, and an undeniable pull toward him.
For a moment, neither of them moved. The silence stretched between them, charged with a tension that seemed to crackle in the air. Kavya’s eyes dropped to his lips, and she could feel the magnetic pull of his presence, drawing her closer with each passing second.
Danish’s gaze followed hers, and for a heartbeat, their eyes met once more, filled with an intensity that left her breathless. The space between them seemed to disappear, replaced by a powerful, almost magnetic connection that made her heart race.
Suddenly, Danish cleared his throat and took a small step back, breaking the spell. “I should let you get some rest,” he said, his voice still soft but carrying an undertone of regret. “Just remember, if you need anything, I’m right here.”
As he turned and walked away, Kavya watched him go, her heart pounding in her chest. The tension between them had been palpable, a mix of desire and something deeper that she wasn’t ready to confront. She was left standing there, her mind reeling from the encounter, the heat of his touch still lingering on her skin.
When she finally closed the bathroom door behind her, Kavya leaned against it, trying to steady her breathing. The encounter with Danish had stirred something inside her, a dangerous mix of longing and desire that she wasn’t sure how to handle.
As she lay back down beside Rahul, the warmth of Danish’s touch still lingered, and the tension of their interaction seemed to hang in the air, making it impossible for her to relax. The night stretched on, filled with a charged silence and the unsettling realization that the boundaries of her emotions had shifted, leaving her caught in a web of desire and guilt that she was only beginning to understand.

CHAPTER - 10

The soft hum of the city outside is barely audible over the quiet of the apartment. Sunlight filters through sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow on the neat living room.
KAVYA, has just awoken. She moves gracefully across the room, her robe loosely dbangd over her sleeveless nighty. Her face is a canvas of emotions—sleepiness, guilt, and confusion. The bed beside her is neatly made, a testament to Rahul’s habitual morning routine. Kavya glances towards the door, noting Rahul’s absence. She exhales softly, the weight of their last encounter lingering on her mind. With a deep breath, she heads towards the bathroom, her footsteps soft on the hardwood floor.
The bathroom is small but clean. It has a simple yet comforting decor. Kavya stands in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. She runs her fingers through her disheveled hair, a sigh escaping her lips. Her gaze shifts to the fluffy towels neatly hung on a rack.
Kavya’s hand trembles slightly as she reaches for the faucet, turning it on. The sound of running water fills the room. She places her hands under the stream, feeling the coolness against her skin. The water does little to wash away the storm inside her.
Kavya glanced at her reflection in the mirror. The guilt was palpable in her eyes, mingling with the frustration that gnawed at her. The tension that had crackled between her and Danish felt like a secret she could not escape, a weight that pressed heavily on her shoulders. She recalled Danish’s lingering gaze, the way his eyes had traced the curves of her body, her sleeveless shoulders and neckline in the dim light, making her feel both alluring and ashamed.
Kavya splashed cool water on her face, she tried to steady her breath. The night had been a whirlwind of emotions, leaving her confused and distressed. She knew she needed to address the turmoil within her, to confront the choices she had made and the boundaries she had blurred.
With a deep breath, Kavya faced herself in the mirror. The person staring back at her was not just the wife of Rahul but also someone grappling with her own desires and decisions. She was determined to find clarity, to resolve the inner conflict that threatened to unravel her sense of self. All these things, like not getting a job, her unfulfillness, tension with Danish making her confused and more frustrated.
She went to the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee as she entered the kitchen she saw the mess that Danish had made. the countertops are cluttered with remnants of a recent meal. Grease splatters cover the backsplash, and there's a mix of raw meat juices and seasoning spills on the surfaces. The sink is piled high with dirty dishes—plates, bowls, and cutlery, all smeared with traces of marinades and sauces. A cutting board sits in the middle, smeared with raw chicken residue. A few crumpled paper towels lie discarded, hinting at the chaos of the cooking process. The air is thick with a mix of savory and unpleasant odors, creating an overwhelming sense of disorganization.
Her eyes narrowed as she took in the scene, her heart pounding with irritation. She could feel her temper rising as she turned and marched towards Danish’s room, her footsteps echoing with purpose. Danish was absorbed in his work, headphones on and focused on his computer screen, oblivious to the storm brewing outside his door. Kavya flung the door open, her face flushed with anger. “Danish! I need to talk to you right now!”
Startled, Danish pulled off his headphones and looked up, his expression a mix of confusion and concern. “What’s wrong? Can’t you see I’m in the middle of something?”
“Middle of something?” Kavya’s voice was tinged with disbelief. “You’re in the middle of letting the kitchen turn into a disaster zone! I can’t believe how messy it is—there’s raw meat everywhere, dishes piling up, and the whole place reeks!”
Danish rubbed his temples, trying to stay calm. “I didn’t have time to clean up; I’ve been working on a deadline all day. Can’t this wait until I’m done?”
“Wait until you’re done?” Kavya’s voice rose, her frustration spilling over. “You’ve been working from home for weeks now, and every time I come in here, it’s a bigger mess. I’m sick of having to deal with this by myself. This isn’t just about today—it’s the same story every single day!”
Danish stood up, his face growing defensive. “I’m doing my best to balance work and home responsibilities. It’s not like I’m deliberately making a mess. If you want things done a certain way, why don’t you just handle it yourself?”
Kavya’s eyes flashed with anger. “I am handling it! But I shouldn’t have to clean up after you every single day. I expect you to take some responsibility. We’re supposed to be a team, not just me doing all the work while you sit in your room.”
Danish said I don’t even cook I was just reheating the leftovers. Leftovers? Of course, it’s non-veg leftovers. Do you have any idea how that makes me feel? It’s not just the mess; it’s the principle of it. I can't stand the smell of non-veg food. It’s against my beliefs, and yet you continue to do this without any consideration for me!
Danish: (raising his voice) You’re being unreasonable! I can’t just stop eating what I like because it doesn’t fit into your beliefs. Kavya’s eyes flashed with anger. “I am handling it! But I shouldn’t have to clean up after you every single day. I expect you to take some responsibility. We’re supposed to be a team, not just me doing all the work while you sit in your room.”
Danish’s face flushed as he took a deep breath. “I get it, I really do. But I need you to understand that I’m under a lot of pressure too. I’m not trying to be neglectful. I’ll clean it up after I’m done, okay?”
Kavya’s shoulders slumped slightly, her anger mingling with exhaustion. “I’m tired of this constant cycle. I need you to be more aware of how your actions affect us both. It’s not just about cleaning up; it’s about respect and partnership.”
The room fell silent for a moment as both of them stood there, the weight of their argument hanging heavily in the air. Kavya’s frustration was palpable, and Danish’s expression softened as he realized the depth of her feelings.
Kavya left the room in anger and went to her room and laid down on the bed.
