Seriously Mum, Where's that Donkey?
by Parks, Alan
English | ISBN: | Alan Parks | pages | epub | 265 KB

*THE AMAZON #1 BESTSELLER IN TRAVEL & ANIMAL BOOKS*
"Absolutely amazing and wonderful!"
"Another Delightful Tale of Life With Animals"
"A book you just can't put down!"
"'Donkey' has to be a must-read"
"You really do need to read this one for yourself - I highly recommend it"
SERIOUSLY MUM, WHERE'S THAT DONKEY?
Could you give up everything you have worked for and do something completely different?
Would you give up and go home if it all went wrong?
"Seriously Mum, Where's that Donkey?" is Alan Parks' follow-up book to "Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca?" This book continues the story of Alan and Lorna's induction into Andalucian life and fills in some of the blanks.
In this book, Alan and Lorna discover that their local town is not quite as sleepy as they had first imagined and that the local ladies will stand by you once their friendship is won.
Alan and Lorna make some great new friends and have a few more unexpected adventures along the way. Add an appearance on Canadian TV into the mix, plus the trials and tribulations of alpaca farming, and this sequel will bring you bang up to date with the lives of two British expats in rural Spain.
"As you can imagine, their stories of adjusting to life in Spain just keep getting better, and in comparison with Driving Over Lemons, Alan and Lorna's tales seem more contemporary, and still as true of expat life today as when they arrived in Spain.
This really is a ripping tale of authentic Andalucia, from a family known and loved within the expat communtiity, precisely because they chose to remove themselves and breed alpacas. If living the expat life appeals to you, or you are already doing it, then Seriously Mum, Whats an Alpaca? should be considered a must read."

From the Author
My name is Alan Parks and I decided to write my book, Seriously Mum, What's an Alpaca? after being told by friends that our story (Lorna and I) would make an interesting read.
It is now over six years since we first left our beautiful home just outside Brighton, and although we have experienced some hard times here, every day we grow to love it more. In fact we can't think of anywhere we would rather live. Ok, yes, the summers are as hot as can be, and the winters bone-chillingly cold, but our life here has taught us many new things about ourselves and each other. Since the book was published, I had so many people write to me asking how the animals were now, and were we happy living in Spain that I have now written two more books in the series, Seriously Mum, Where's that Donkey? and Seriously Mum, How Many Cats?
I have just started work on book 4 in the series.

About the Author
Alan Parks was born in Eastbourne, East Sussex in 1978. His life changed for the better (he is constantly reminded) when he met Lorna in 2003. Work consisted of fairly mundane, mainly managerial posts. In 2008, Alan and Lorna moved to rural Andalucía, Spain, and now live in an old Olive Mill, off-grid and with a menagerie of animals.

English | 1948 | ISBN: 0312979738 | HarperCollins Publishers | 288 pages | epub | 1 MB

The title story in this mystery collection revolves around the case of a man charged with the murder of a wealthy elderly woman. It is a gripping tale of courtroom suspense with a dazzling double climax, perfectly suited to the audio format. Other stories range from the strange tale of a French peasant girl with four personalities, to the letters "SOS" scrawled in dust on a nightstand, to the mystery of a blue Chinese jar and its connection to a murdered woman. Each suspenseful, each different, the tales are of brutal murder, brilliant criminals and detectives, and love in the face of death. Together they showcase the versatility and genius of Dame Agatha Christie.

In this chance encounter, she discovers that her immigrant husband of almost fifteen years was not an orphan after all. Instead, his aged mother Jo is alive and residing on the family's isolated farm in the west of Ireland.

Faced with news of her mother-in-law incarnate, the thirty-nine-year-old American prep college teacher decides to travel to Ireland to investigate the truth about her husband Fintan and why he kept his family's existence a secret for so many years.

Between Jo's hilltop farm and the lakeside village of Gowna, Ellen begins to uncover the mysteries of her Irish husband's past and the cruelties and isolation of his rural childhood. Ellen also stumbles upon Fintan's long-ago romance with a local village woman, with whom he had a daughter, Cat. Cat is now fourteen and living with her mother in London. As Ellen reconciles her troubled relationship with Fintan, she discovers a way to heal the wounds of the past.

Poisoned
by Alan Bell
English | ISBN: | Skyhorse Publishing | pages | epub | 1 MB

After years of prosecuting hard-core criminals, rising legal star Alan Bell took a private sector job in South Florida's newest skyscbangr. Suddenly, he suffered such bizarre medical symptoms, doctors suspected he'd been poisoned by the Mafia. Bell's rapidly declining health forced him to flee his glamorous Miami life to a sterile "bubble" in the remote Arizona desert.

As his career and marriage dissolved, Bell pursued medical treatments in a race against time, hoping to stay alive and raise his young daughter, his one desperate reason to keep going. He eventually discovered he wasn't poisoned by a criminal, but by his office building. His search for a cure led him to discover the horrifying truth: his tragedy was just the tip of the iceberg. Millions of people fall ill and die each year because of toxic chemical exposures-without knowing they're at risk.

Stunned by what he discovered, Bell chose to fight back, turning his plight into an opportunity....

Four Stories
by Alan Bennett
English | 1989 | ISBN: | Profile Books | pages | epub | 764 KB

The Laying on of Hands, the painfully observant account of a memorial service for a masseur to the famous. The Clothes They Stood Up In, the comic tale of an elderly couple's trials after their flat is stripped completely bare. Father! Father! Burning Bright, the savage satire on the family of a dying man who rules over them from his hospital bed. The Lady in the Van, the true story of the eccentric old woman who is invited to live in a homeowner's front garden. She stays there, in her van, for fifteen years. The home is Alan Bennett's. It became a West End hit, starring Maggie Smith.
Like everything Bennett does, these stories are playful, witty and painfully observant of ordinary people's foibles. They all have brilliant twists, are immensely entertaining and highly moral. And all are modern classics.

Alva's Boy
by Alan Collins
English | ISBN: 9781877006043 | Port Campbell Press | pages | epub | 175 KB

Alan Collins' memoir successfully straddles both history and literature. It is a memoir that has wry appeal to the seasoned Jewish historical reader and the novice alike with its keen observations and its pacey narrative, detailing the life of a young Jewish boy growing up in Bondi in the 30s and 40s. Collins, who died in March 2008 aged 79, leaves a compelling story about part of Australia's rich journey of immigration, particularly its Jewish roots. Reviewed by Sally Spalding, Moorabbin Glen Eira Leader, January 2009 Collins' memoir is an illuminating look at Sydney's lively Jewish community in the 1930s and 1940s. It is also a testament of courage and resilience. Collins somehow survived his childhood and went on to become a successful businessman, writer, husband and father. - Dianne Dempsey, The Age November 2008

Unlikely duo Pip and Flinx return to right another wrong in this all-new sci-fi adventure from one of the genre's living legends.

Fans of fun, fast-paced, imaginative science fiction adventure, rejoice! #1 New York Times bestselling author Alan Dean Foster returns to his much-loved Commonwealth series with a new novel starring the indefatigable Flinx and his venomous minidrag, Pip. Facing danger and doing good is their business . . . provided the price is right.

The unexpected return of an old friend draws Flinx and Pip to the backward planet of Largess, whose seal-like denizens' primitive technology and fractious clan politics have kept a wary Commonwealth from a profitable trade relationship. But now a rogue human employing forbidden advanced weaponry threatens to ignite a war among the Larians. And Flinx is just the man to stop it before it starts.

But once on Largess, Flinx discovers his empathic abilities--usually his greatest asset--are rendered useless by the natives' unique language, which is sung rather than spoken. Worse, the abduction of a powerful chieftain's daughter has raised tensions to the boiling point. Now Flinx must depend on his own mettle--and of course, Pip, the devoted minidrag with the deadly edge--to right wrongs, mend fences, and battle a cold-blooded adversary armed with enough firepower to blow them all away . . . and destroy the chance for peace in Largess forever.

Then they come to Earth . . .

A Call to Arms

From the lead singer of the band Great Big Sea comes a lyrical and captivating musical memoir about growing up in the tiny fishing village of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, and then taking to the world stage.
Singer-songwriter and front man of the great Canadian band Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle is also a lyrical storyteller and a creative force. In Where I Belong, Alan paints a vivid, raucous and heartwarming portrait of a curious young lad born into the small coastal fishing community of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, and destined to become a renowned musician who carried the musical tradition of generations before him and brought his signature sound to the world. He tells of a childhood surrounded by larger-than-life characters who made an indelible impression on his music and work; of his first job on the wharf cutting out cod tongues for fishermen; of growing up in a family of five in a two-bedroom house with a beef-bucket as a toilet, yet lacking nothing; of...

Ban This Book
by Alan Gratz
English | 2017 | ISBN: 0765385562 | Tom Doherty Associates | 256 pages | epub | 3 MB

-Readers, librarians, and all those books that have drawn a challenge have a brand new hero.... Stand up and cheer, book lovers. This one's for you.- --Kathi Appelt, author of the Newbery Honor-winning The Underneath

An inspiring tale of a fourth-grader who fights back when her favorite book is banned from the college library--by starting her own illegal locker library!

It all started the day Amy Anne Ollinger tried to check out her favorite book in the whole world, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, from the college library. That's when Mrs. Jones, the librarian, told her the bad news: her favorite book was banned! All because a classmate's mom thought the book wasn't appropriate for kids to read.

Amy Anne decides to fight back by starting a secret banned books library out of her locker. Soon, she finds herself on the front line of an unexpected battle over book banning, censorship, and who has the right to decide what she and her fellow students can read.

Reminiscent of the classic novel Frindle by Andrew Clements for its inspiring message, Ban This Book is a love letter to the written word and its power to give kids a voice.

- Ban This Book is absolutely brilliant and belongs on the shelves of every library in the multiverse.---Lauren Myracle, author of the bestselling Internet Girls series, the most challenged books of 2009 and 2011
