Encyclopedia of Cancer, 3rd Edition by Manfred Schwab
English | PDF (True) | 2011 | 4063 Pages | ISBN : 364216482X | 174.61 MB

The merging of different basic and clinical science disciplines towards the common goal of fighting against cancer has long ago called for the establishment of a comprehensive reference source both as a tool to close the language gap between clinical and basic science investigators and as a platform of information for students and informed laymen alike. The Encyclopedia of Cancer provides rapid access to focused information on all topics of cancer research for clinicians, research scientists and advanced students.
Given the overwhelming success of the Second Edition, which appeared in 2009, and fast recent development in the different fields of cancer research, it has been decided to publish a third fully revised and expanded edition, following the principal concept of the first edition that has proven so successful.

Recent developments are seeing a dynamic progress in basic and clinical cancer science, with translational research increasingly becoming a new paradigm in cancer research. In particular, new approaches to both Personalized Cancer Medicine and Targeted Therapies have made promising progress. While the Second Edition featured scholarly contributions from approximately 1.000 scientists/clinicians in four Volumes, the Third Edition includes 1.300 contributors in 7 Volumes with an A-Z format of approx. 7000 entries. It provides definitions of common acronyms and short definitions of related terms and processes in the form of keyword entries. In addition, there are detailed essays, which provide comprehensive information on syndromes, genes and molecules, and processes and methods. Each essay is well-structured, with extensive cross-referencing between all entries. In the Third Edition, topical Essays present a comprehensive picture of major cancers, such as Breast Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Renal Cancer, Lung Cancer, and Hematological Maligancies, Leukemias and Lymphomas. For each of these cancers, different authoritative Essays are included that cover topics ranging from Pathology, to Clinical Oncology and Targeted Therapies. This new feature should meet the expectance that a wide community has towards a major cancer reference works.

The Encyclopedia of Cancer will be accessible both in print and online, and this information source should be of value to both the clinical and basic scientific community as well as to the public. i will be very grateful when you supportme and buy Or Renew Your Premium from myi appreciate your supportToo much as it will help me to post more and more

Noa Tishby, "Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth"
English | ISBN: 1982144939, 1982172347 | 2021 | EPUB | 352 pages | 6 MB

"This is not your Bubbie's history book." -Bill Maher, host of Real Time with Bill Maher

"A fascinating-and very moving-book that should be read by anyone for whom Israel is a mystery." -Aaron Sorkin, award-winning screenwriter of The West Wing and The Social Network

A personal, spirited, and concise chronological timeline spanning from Biblical times to today that explores one of the most fascinating countries in the world-Israel.

Israel. The small strip of arid land is 5,700 miles away but remains a hot button issue and a thorny topic of debate. But while everyone seems to have a strong opinion about Israel, how many people actually know the facts?

Here to fill in the information gap is Israeli American Noa Tishby. Offering a fresh, 360-degree view, Tishby brings her straight-shooting, engaging, and slightly irreverent voice to the subject, creating an accessible and dynamic portrait of a tiny country of outsized relevance. Through bite-sized chunks of history and deeply personal stories, Tishby chronicles her homeland's evolution, beginning in Biblical times and moving forward to cover everything from WWI to Israel's creation to the real disputes dividing the country today. Tackling popular misconceptions with an abundance facts, Tishby provides critical context around headline-generating controversies and offers a clear, intimate account of the richly cultured country of Israel.

Go Figure!: Using Math to Answer Everyday Imponderables by Clint Brookhart
English | 1999 | ISBN: 0809226081 | 160 Pages | PDF | 4.8 MB

Provides a collection of math puzzles and mind benders with instructions for solving them.
This book, which was written by an engineer, might have been more appropriately subtitled, "Now that I have a scientific calculator, what do I do with it?" There is little here in the way of proof but lots of formulas with explanations of how to use them. The topics covered range from calculating the wind chill factor and temperature humidity index to computing the time dilation effect predicted by Einstein's theory of special relativity. Although not too many people will read this for pleasure, the book could be used to advantage as a supplementary text in a course in "cultural mathematics." It might well motivate students to learn how to use a calculator while at the same time exposing them to some of the ways math impinges on their lives. For most math collections.

Rebecca Shapiro, "Fixing Babel: An Historical Anthology of Applied English Lexicography"
English | ISBN: 1611488095 | 2016 | 657 pages | PDF | 7 MB

We all think we know what a dictionary is for and how to use one, so most of us skip the first pages-the front matter-and go right to the words we wish to look up. Yet dictionary users have not always known how English "works" and my book reproduces and examines for the first time important texts in which seventeenth- and eighteenth-century dictionary authors explain choices and promote ideas to readers, their "end users." Unlike French, Spanish, and Italian dictionaries compiled during this time and published by national academies, the goal of English dictionaries was usually not to "purify" the language, though some writers did attempt to regularize it. Instead, English lexicographers aimed to teach practical ways for their users to learn English, improve their language skills, even transcend their social class. The anthology strives to be comprehensive in its coverage of the first phase of this tradition from the early seventeenth century-from Robert Cawdrey's (1604) A Table Alphabeticall, to Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language (1755), and finally, to Noah Webster's An American Dictionary of the English Language (1828). The book puts English dictionaries in historical, national, linguistic, literary, cultural contexts, presenting lexicographical trends and the change in the English language over two centuries, and examines how writers attempted to control it by appealing to various pedagogical and legal authorities. Moreover, the development of dictionary and attempts to codify English language and grammar coincided with the arc of the British Empire; the promulgation of "proper" English has been a subject of debate and inquiry for centuries and, in part, dictionaries and the teaching of English historically have been used to present and support ideas about what is correct, regardless of how and where English is actually used. The authors who wrote these texts apply ideas about capitalism, nationalism, sex and social status to favor one language theory over another. I show how dictionaries are not neutral documents: they challenge or promote biases. The book presents and analyzes the history of lexicography, demonstrating how and why dictionaries evolved into the reference books we now often take for granted and we can see that there is no easy answer to the question of "who owns English."

Introducing Quantum Theory: A Graphic Guide by J.P. McEvoy & Oscar Zarate
Icon Books | 2013 | English | ISBN: 1840468505 | PDF | 182 pages | 119 MB

Quantum theory is one of science's most thrilling, challenging and even mysterious areas.

Scientists such as Planck, Einstein, Bohr, Heisenberg and Schrödinger uncovered bizarre paradoxes in the early 20th century that seemed to destroy the fundamental assumptions of 'classical physics' - the basic laws we are taught in college. At the sub-atomic level, one particle seems to know what the others are doing, and according to Heisenberg's 'uncertainty principle', there is a limit on how accurately nature can be observed. And yet quantum theory explanations are amazingly accurate and widely applied, explaining all of chemistry and most of physics.

Introducing Quantum Theory is a step-by-step tour, tackling the puzzle of the wave-particle duality, along with the two famous questions raised against Bohr's 'Copenhagen Interpretation' - the 'dead and alive cat' and the EPR paradox, both of which remain unresolved even now.

Notoriously difficult, quantum theory is nonetheless an amazing and inspiring intellectual adventure, explained here with patience, wit and clarity.

History of France: A Captivating Guide to French History by Captivating History
English | March 20, 2021 | ISBN: 163716257X | 256 pages | EPUB | 7.49 Mb
If you want to discover the influential and captivating history of France, then read on.

France has influenced the course of history in Europe and the world for centuries. Considered one of the world's most beautiful countries and home to some of the world's most visited tourist locations, France has enthralled and fascinated the people who've discovered that, in many ways, the history of France encompasses both the good and bad in the human character.

The French have rightly prided themselves on their food, fashion, painting, sculpture, theater, films, and literature, among much else. The names Escoffier, Saint-Laurent, Monet, Rodin, Moliere, Truffaut, and Voltaire are known throughout the world. The famous Eiffel Tower is recognized as the symbol of France to people in the most remote places of the globe, but there is so much more to the history of France than escargot, wine, Impressionism, and movies. In this book, you'll learn the history of France and of the French, one of the most fascinating, frightening, and inspiring histories of them all.

In History of France: A Captivating Guide to French History, you will discover topics such as:
  • The simple facts about France-its population, economy, and geography
  • The surprisingly advanced world of the Gauls and their famous leader Vercingetorix, who waged a bloody war against the Romans and Julius Caesar
  • The great emperor Charlemagne, who created the largest and strongest military and the greatest empire after the fall of Rome and who was also the first "Holy Roman
  • The legendary Joan of Arc, the teenager who victoriously inspired the armies of France against the English in the 15th century
  • The amazing world of Louis XIV and his beautiful and grandiose Palace of Versailles
  • The bloody, inspiring struggle for freedom that was the French Revolution and how it still influences revolutions and politics today
  • The brilliant Napoleon Bonaparte, the Corsican-born "foreigner" who built an empire using the force of his will and who was ahead of his time, enacting military tactics that are still studied today in military academies around the world

Fire and Ice
(Brides of Weatherton #2)
by Leah Atwood
English | 131 pages | 2014 | B00QXWYEYW | epub | 0.16 mb

Pragmatic Maeve Benetton would never have answered an advertisement for a mail-order bride on her own accord, but without her knowledge and on her behalf, her brother replied to one placed by Patrick Holden from Weatherton, Wyoming. When a letter came from Patrick several weeks later, Maeve decided to pen her own reply, giving in to the romantic notions she'd always kept hidden.

After a time of correspondence, she fancied herself in love with Patrick and agreed to marry him. She packed the few belongings she had, said goodbye to her family, and left her home for romance in the west.

When she arrived in Weatherton, Patrick was nowhere to be found. Weeks went by, and with no money to return home, Maeve was stuck in limbo, living with Patrick's family. When he finally does return, will Maeve be able to adapt to changes? And can she trust herself enough to fall in love or will she fall back to her practical self?

In the second Brides of Weatherton novella, best-selling author, Leah Atwood, delivers another sweet, mail-order romance full of faith, love, friendship, and family.

Although this is the second book of the series, it can be read as a standalone.

First STEPs : Jane's Visit: (Book 1 of STEPs Series)
by Evie Ferro
English | 2015 | B017C8NL30 | 30 pages | azw3 | 0.23 mb

I had more than one moment of doubt looking at the handful of strings that Nicki called a bikini that I was expected to wear. But this was an adventure, I couldn't chicken out right at the beginning.

Jane is excited to visit the Morgan Family in Philadelphia, her first visit to a City. From the start, she realizes the excitement of the City is nothing compared to the excitement of her step family. Book 1 of the STEP Series, each is a standalone story, but I hope you like them all and read them all.
