Hi and welcome to my course to teach you how to build a great relationship.
For most couples, building a happy and successful relationship is a difficult journey. You're probably aware that about 50% of marriages end in divorce. Once the glow of romance fades, couples, including those who were once madly in love, experience conflict, disappointment and even despair.
Some feel the disappointment so deeply that they decide to end the relationship.
Others pretend that everything is okay but settle for less than they ever desired.
Others try to sort things out and work through their issues.
We Long for Companionship
And yet, in spite of the challenges of building a happy relationship, it is natural for us to want to find a partner and settle into a life together. We don't like being alone. We want someone with whom to share our life experiences.
As a matter-of-fact, 96% of people in our society today marry or come together as a couple during their lifetimes. And even among those who divorce, the great majority of them will eventually remarry.
If our desire for companionship is so deep, what goes wrong?
We lack good role models
We come into marriage ill-prepared
We have unrealistic expectations of marriage and our partners
And we have not learned the tools and skills to build a successful relationship
Vast Research on Happy Marriages
But the good news is that there is a vast body of research on happiness in marriage. We know what happy couples do and these practices can be learned. Here's one quick example.
Your partner says, "What beautiful sunset."
You can respond in one of three ways. You can turn towards your partner by saying something like, "Wow, it certainly is beautiful. Look at those pink hues reflecting off the clouds." You can turn away from your partner by ignoring the comment or responding with indifference. Or you can turn against your partner by making a negative or even argumentative comment. "I don't see what's so special about it." Or, "I can't get anything done when you continually interrupt me."
In happy marriages, partners turn towards each other 85% of the time. In unhappy marriages, partners turn away or against about 85% of the time. This means that you can improve your relationship by learning to recognize "bids" to talk and turning towards rather than against or away.
My name is Roger K. Allen. I'm a psychologist and have spent hundreds of hours not only researching best practices of happy and stable relationships but I've also counseled with dozens of couples just like you. And, now I've gathered the best lessons from my experience as well as a rather vast body of research on marriage and consolidated them into this course on building a happy and stable relationship.

Two Ways to Do the Program
There are two ways to go through the program. One is as a couple. It's nice if you talk it over and decide to learn and practice together.
The other is as an individual. It's common for one or the other spouse to feel a greater desire to improve their relationship and so the other option is to go through it on your own. Not only will you learn a ton but you'll begin to realize how much one person can do to make your relationship better. As you change, your relationship will change and improve. Your spouse will likely notice and begin mirroring the changes you're making, whether he or she goes through the program or not.

Section 1: Overview including resources and tips to get the most value from the course.
Section 2: The five stages of marital satisfaction. This is a roadmap to help you understand where you are and how to move forward. I'll also talk about four toxic patterns of interacting that kill love and prevent you from achieving a loving relationship. And, I introduce the six habits of a healthy relationship. It is these habits that will guide the remainder of our journey.
Section 3: Self-responsibility. It's hard to be a great partner if you don't accept responsibility for yourself-your needs, feelings and behavior. We'll talk about how to be accountable for your own emotional reactions and how to make positive choices when things go wrong.
Section 4: Honor your partner. Your partner is a unique person, distinct from you, someone who has the right to his or her own feelings, needs, thoughts, and choices. This section is about understanding your differences and appreciating your partner, becoming committed to their happiness as well your own.
Section 5: Friendship and unity. You are companions in this journey and the happiest couples nurture each other and know how to have fun together. A number of lessons in this section will include steps you can take to build a more satisfying sexual relationship.
Section 6: Connection and communication. We'll explore different styles of communication and how to make it safe to talk openly about your needs, feelings and expectations and allow your spouse to do the same.
Section 7: Resolving conflict. You'll learn the art of dialogue and a powerful three-step process to not only resolve disagreements but in a way that preserves your trust and goodwill.
Section 8: Shared vision. You'll not only define your shared vision but create a marital coat of arms and put in place some structures or routines to help you achieve your vision.

You do the art therapy exercise. Whilst you're doing it you may choose to watch the lecture, hear soft music etc. This makes up Part A.
I, your friendly Instructor, also do the same exercise and post my 'work' in Part B. I also explain it. As part of the lecture I also include questions for self-reflection.
In many cases, people are returning to work i.e. actually going to the workplace. Therefore as a bonus I include some 'Office Games' - just for fun.
So, beautiful scenery, cuddly animals...what more could you want?
Ahhh, yes. A lecture on analysing your own work and another lecture where 7 questions are asked. The purpose? To encourage discussion.
So, what should you do with this course?
You could watch the whole course in a day, doing all the exercises but that would seem to be a bit of a waste. Why not do a lecture a day, post your results and discuss with others?
What will you learn?
Firstly, by simply doing the exercises you may well learn a lot about yourself. When you get to part B of the lecture you'll see the way I responded to the prompts and how I have (briefly) analysed my work. you'll also see Self-Reflective questions. Your answers are your own (or you may put them in the Q/A) and these will all add to your understanding of your artwork - and you understanding of yourself.
The final two lectures will give you more ideas about approaching your own work and some questions you may like to respond to about Art Therapy.
What makes this course a little bit different is that it is a series of very short lectures detailing an exercise and then a second lecture showing a piece of 'art' and a brief analysis.
That, I hope, will make the course interesting.

This course examines the oldest and the shortest Gospel in the New Testament, recorded for us by Mark. You are invited to study the life of Jesus and the Good News he both announced and enacted. Join Prof. N.T. Wright as he teaches and guides you to look through Mark at Jesus. Come find out what makes this Gospel distinct from Matthew's and Luke's accounts. Learn the reasons Mark selected and arranged his material in the particular way that he did. Discern the ways in which Mark may have launched a new literary genre for his time. Explore what Mark has to say about what God has done in and through Jesus. Discover the remarkable achievement of Jesus, and how Jesus calls people to be his followers as a result.

This course contains 27 lectures by Prof. N.T. Wright, along with corresponding quizzes to check your comprehension, and practice exercises to help you engage with the material. There are no extra academic articles or required readings. The 'articles' in the course include the biblical texts, and the practice exercises, which offer 8-10 prompts to help you absorb, reflect, and practice what you are learning.

This course serves as a comprehensive overview of the central theories and practices of contemporary Existential Therapy (ET).

Whilst the course may also of interest to non-professionals with a personal interest in psychology and philosophy: specialist academic language is used throughout the course and it is pitched at a postgraduate level; it is mainly intended for mental health professionals and refers to thebangutic techniques and strategies throughout.
The Goals of Existential Therapy
Existential therapies have different goals to more conventional approaches to mental health, principle goals include
Helping people to live more authentic lives and avoid various forms of inauthentic behaviour
Maximising autonomy and freedom by encouraging people to assume responsibility for their choices (and their lives)
Helping people to find (or construct) a sense of meaning, purpose and value in life
Cultivating wisdom and the pursuit of philosophical truth: overcoming self-deception and harmful delusions
Helping people to face reality and certain "existential givens" (such as death/mortality) so that they can live more full and engaged lives
Existential therapies are firmly rooted in existential philosophy and often draw on the ideas of prominent existential philosophers such as Kierkegaard, Buber, Nietzsche & Sartre - most of whom were writing in a time where the distinction between philosophy and psychology was less rigid than it is today. Likewise, existential therapies tend to be heavily influenced by phenomenology and phenomenological philosophers (such as Hegel and Heidegger) .
Due to this influence of phenomenology existential therapies tend to emphasise subjectivity and inter-subjectivity; the nature and significance of phenomenology are something explored in this course. Helping people to reconnect with the subjective nature of their lives (instead of viewing themselves as passive objects or labels or in terms of overly reductionist biographical narratives) is both an important goal and a central method of many approaches to existential therapy.
Furthermore, these approaches to therapy emphasise the role of will, choice, and volition in the challenges (and sometimes symptoms) that present in the lives of patients/clients and in the thebangutic process: they are, in part, a reaction to overly-deterministic and reductionist accounts of human behaviour and psychology.
In truth, there is no single 'Existential Therapy' but multiple 'existential therapies' - different branches of therapy and psychotherapy that are informed by different existential philosophers and existential psychologists: the course covers the three most prominent existentially-orientated approaches to therapy and psychotherapy
Logotherapy
Existential-Humanistic Therapy
Existential Phenomenological Therapy (and 'The British college')
It also takes an in-depth look at the model of existential psychotherapy developed by Irvin Yalom and explores more recent developments in the field: Existential-Positive Psychology, Positive Psychology 2.0, and potential avenues for integrating existential therapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
The Aims of The Course
This course focuses on outlining, describing and explaining the central concepts, theories and practices of Existential Therapy: it does not pretend to present a particularly critical or evaluative analysis, it does not explore the evidential basis of existential therapy nor does it attempt to 'sell you' Existential Therapy. Critical appraisal of the value of existential therapy is something I will leave to you.
What I can promise, however, is that you will have a firm grasp of Existential Therapy by the end of this course as well as some new, existentially-informed, thebangutic techniques to experiment with in your practice as a mental health professional. Moreover, I can promise you that the course is well-researched and that I have done my utmost to do this fascinating and unique approach to therapy justice and to represent it both fairly and comprehensively.
Aside from my hope that this course will enhance your practice as a therapist and bring great benefit to those with whom you work, it is also my hope that you will find the concepts and theories of the course personally relevant, engaging, and perhaps even challenging!
Finally: one of my aims is to offer good value - this desire is borne partly out of my own frustration at how expensive high-quality training is for counsellors and psychotherapists and how limited exposure to these theories and ideas is as a result. This course is a fraction of the price of more established training courses for Existential Therapy and my ambition is not only to match those courses but to surpass them in quality.
Important Information & Considerations
The course includes twenty video-learning sessions*. Aside from containing in-depth explanations of Existential Therapy these sessions also include various learning and reflection activities that you should engage in if you hope to maximise your learning.
Included in the course is a printable workbook** that features learning and reflection tasks: this workbook should be printed off and either bound as a booklet or kept together in a file prior to beginning the first learning session. Every learning-session has its own double-sided worksheet (as a section of the workbook) and engaging with these worksheets and learning activities is something expected of students who wish to get the most out of this course.
This course asks that you utilise an 'active learning' approach and, in true existential fashion, asks that you take responsibility for getting the most out of it. If you are looking for a course in which you passively absorb information - as if listening to an audio book - this course is not for you! Likewise: if you cannot print the workbook/worksheets because you do not have access to a printer - that will be an obstacle to learning.
Each learning session also includes additional links to relevant external resources such as articles and videos: these are intended to support your learning and taking the time to explore these additional resources will help you to perfect your expertise in existential approaches to therapy.
My intention is to create expertise: this means it is heavy on theory and doesn't 'pull any punches' when it comes to detailed exploration of complicated ideas and concepts. It is not a 'dumbed-down' course and aims to be intellectually and academically rigorous and challenging.
Those who complete the video learning-sessions will receive a certificate of completion automatically from Udemy: an 'Advanced Certificate in Existential Therapy, Psychotherapy & Counselling' can also be claimed (at no additional cost) by students who successfully complete the course and additional assessment tasks (outlined in the aforementioned printable workbook). At the time of release (July, 2020) the Advanced Certificate is not formally accredited though it is my intention to remedy this in due course.
*If the course is sufficiently popular and well-received, I intend to expand upon it and add new learning sessions over time.

You will build the Snake game from scratch. You will learn to write code in Rust language, static type, compiled language.

Rust doesn't have a garbage collector. Memory is cleared when the values are getting out of the scope. You will learn how to manage this concept with ease.
The next feature you will learn of is borrowing and references. Through references, you will be able to access values without owning them.
In the beginning lectures, we will also talk about memory management in Stack and the Heap structures, modularity, strings, and other essential topics.
After Rust's introduction lectures, you will start building your Snake game. You will learn how to structure the application modular and cleanly.
You will build your own JS frontend, exposed through a simple Webpack development server. Later, you will transform JS implementation into TS (Typescript). This will specify types and be on the same page as Rust code.
