Story of Jesus 2019 OCR
pdf | 71.88 MB | Author :Edward Jay Epstein

Book Description :

A new biography of James Jesus Angleton by Edward Jay Epstein that asks the question: was he right after all? Angleton was the legendary head of CIA counterintelligence during most of the Cold War.. In May 1987, in one of his last phone calls, he told Dick Cheney, who was then a member of the House Intelligence Committee, that he needed to tell him in person something of vital importance. Even though Angleton died before the scheduled meeting, taking this secret to the grave with him, his mystery lived on.
John Le Carre could not have invented a character as intriguing as Angleton. He was ridiculed in the media, Congress, and in the CIA itself, when his mole hunt failed to find a spy in the CIA Investigative journalist Edward Jay Epstein tells of his rise, fall, and the astounding revelations that emerged in the CIA after his death. Epstein .spent hundreds of hours interviewing him to understand the mind of this unique mind warrior. He met with him in orchid greenhouses in Kensington, Maryland, dining clubs in Washington DC, and his home in Tucson, Arizona to follow the convoluted layers of his universe of deception. Epstein also was one of the few journalist to interview his arch nemesis: Yuri Nosenko. In this extraordinary book, he sets out to answer a single question: Was Angleton right that the CIA had been penetrated?
Along the way we also learn much about the CIA and KGB during the cold war years, including:

+ Why KGB defector Yuri Nosenko was imprisoned by the CIA ...

+ What was Angleton's role in the CIA assassination plots against Castro ...

+ How the CIA allowed the KGB to disinform two Presidents.

+ What weaknesses KGB spies Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen exposed in the CIA

The Battle Of Britain
pdf | 38.98 MB | Author :Jon Lake

Book Description :

In the summer of 1940, the most important battle in the history of air warfare was fought between the British Royal Air Force and the German Luftwaffe in the skies over southern Britain. Only after a tightly-fought series of aerial battles did the RAF secure a narrow victory - or did it? Although glamourised by the press and cinema alike over the past 60 years, the battle was an intense war of attrition in which luck, skill, judgement and bravery all played a role. The Battle of Britain explores in detail the men, machines and tactics engaged in the epic struggle, and seeks to debunk some of the popular myths that surround it.

The Battle of Britain examines the strength of both sides on the eve of the battle, and its wider strategic implications fo the outcome of the war. The book looks at the German preparations for invasion, and the Luftwaffe's state of readiness after the Polish and French campaigns. It explains why the battle was a race against time for the Germans and highlights factors such as the lack of suitable transports and inexperience in planning a seaborne invasion that helped hinder their efforts. The book also asks whether Hitler himself was ever truly committed to invading Britain.

Britain's preparations for defending herself from attack are also closely examined. The role and effectiveness of such institutions as the Home Guards and Observer Corps are covered, as well as the vital Chain Home and Chain Home Low radar networks. The Battle of Britain analyses the RAF's prepartions for the battle, its main fighters, the Hurricane and the Spitfire, and the vital importance of pilots from the Commonwealth, Poland, Czechoslovakia, France, the United States and elsewhere.

The Battle of Britain covers every stage of this mammoth contest in detail, beginning with the opening attacks on British shipping and ports. The book highlights how close the war of attrition against the RAF came to succeeding, when the full fury of the Luftwaffe was unleashed on its airfields. It also asks why the Luftwaffe began bombing the cities when it was so close to success. The failings of both sides are dissected: the discord between key RAF commanders, and the initial failure of the Germans to realise the importance of radar.

The book provides a wealth of information on the events of that infamous summer of 1940.

This is a text-only ebook.

The Founding of The United States
pdf | 25.4 MB | Author :Tom McHale

Book Description :

The Practical Guide to the United States Constitution offers an accurate but entertaining look at the founding documents. It covers the how's, what's, and why's of the United States Constitution, but with a side of fun.
The mission is simple: to make the Constitution so easy to understand that even a career politician can grasp it.
This Practical Guide covers the underlying concepts of natural rights and consent-based government. Hint: it's not to subpoena and investigate each other. The book also clarifies how each of the three primary founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, work together to define the goals, theory, and mechanics of the American system. The heart of this constitutional owners' manual is a simplified walk through the contents and meaning of the founding documents. If you've ever wanted to know what the Constitution really says, this book is for you.

Reader feedback:

Just finished reading The Practical Guide to The United States Constitution, I wish I could have read this 40 years ago, better yet in government class in high college, 1966. I retired 6 years ago and finally had the time to get educated in the political process and history of this great country. I had to move my library book down to place this one in the top 3 "BEST". This book needs to be in every high college government class as "required" reading to graduate. It's fantastic, factual, easy to read, well organized and spellbinding.

Any time a person can read, have fun and learn something new it's a good deal! Buy this book now!

Tom McHale has managed to keep me reading, in short sessions, for the past week until I finished his delightful, lighthearted explanation of the founding documents of our republic. No heavy tome for law college students, 'The Practical Guide to the United States Constitution' is an engaging, fun read... in a civics primer, no less! Well done, Mr. McHale.

I enjoyed this guide of the Constitution. It was easy to read, witty, and gave everyday explanations. While interpretation may be one thing... the actual words are quite simple. Tom did a nice job... I highly recommend this book for for first time diving into the Constitution.

The Pilgrims 2018 lowres
pdf | 29.03 MB | Author :Jay Milbrandt

Book Description :

A page-turning story of the Pilgrims, the courageous band of freedom-seekers who set out for a new life for themselves and forever changed the course of history.
Once a year at Thanksgiving, we encounter Pilgrims as folksy people in funny hats before promptly forgetting them. In the centuries since America began, the Pilgrims have been relegated to folklore and children's stories, fairy-tale mascots for holiday parties and greeting cards.
The true story of the Pilgrim Fathers could not be more different. Beginning with the execution of two pastors deviating from the Elizabethan Church of England, the Pilgrims' great journey was one of courageous faith, daring escape, and tenuous survival. Theirs is the story of refugees who fled intense religious persecution; of dreamers who voyaged the Atlantic and into the unknown when all other attempts had led to near-certain death; of survivors who struggled with newfound freedom. Loneliness led to starvation, tension gave way to war with natives, and suspicion broke the back of the very freedom they endeavored to achieve.
Despite the pain and turmoil of this high stakes triumph, the Pilgrim Fathers built the cornerstone for a nation dedicated to faith, freedom, and thankfulness. This is the epic story of the Pilgrims, an adventure that laid the bedrock for the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, and the American identity.

The Renaissance
pdf | 66.32 MB | Author :Susan Wise Bauer

Book Description :

A lively and fascinating narrative history about the birth of the modern world.

Beginning in the heady days just after the First Crusade, this volume-the third in the series that began with The History of the Ancient World and The History of the Medieval World-chronicles the contradictions of a world in transition.
Popes continue to preach crusade, but the hope of a Christian empire comes to a bloody end at the walls of Constantinople. Aristotelian logic and Greek rationality blossom while the Inquisition gathers strength. As kings and emperors continue to insist on their divine rights, ordinary people all over the world seize power: the lingayats of India, the Jacquerie of France, the Red Turbans of China, and the peasants of England.

New threats appear, as the Ottomans emerge from a tiny Turkish village and the Mongols ride out of the East to set the world on fire. New currencies are forged, new weapons invented, and world-changing catastrophes alter the landscape: the Little Ice Age and the Great Famine kill millions; the Black Death, millions more. In the chaos of these epoch-making events, our own world begins to take shape.

Impressively researched and brilliantly told, The History of the Renaissance World offers not just the names, dates, and facts but the memorable characters who illuminate the years between 1100 and 1453-years that marked a sea change in mankind's perception of the world.

The Roman Empire
pdf | 45.84 MB | Author :Mary Beard

Book Description :

Sunday Times Top 10 Bestseller

Shortlisted for a British Book Industry Book of the Year Award 2016

The new series Ultimate Rome: Empire Without Limit is on BBC2 now

Ancient Rome matters.

Its history of empire, conquest, cruelty and excess is something against which we still judge ourselves. Its myths and stories - from Romulus and Remus to the bang of Lucretia - still strike a chord with us. And its debates about citizenship, security and the rights of the individual still influence our own debates on civil liberty today.

SPQR is a new look at Roman history from one of the world's foremost classicists. It explores not only how Rome grew from an insignificant village in central Italy to a power that controlled territory from Spain to Syria, but also how the Romans thought about themselves and their achievements, and why they are still important to us. Covering 1,000 years of history, and casting fresh light on the basics of Roman culture from slavery to running water, as well as exploring democracy, migration, religious controversy, social mobility and exploitation in the larger context of the empire, this is a definitive history of ancient Rome.

SPQR is the Romans' own abbreviation for their state: Senatus Populusque Romanus, 'the Senate and People of Rome'.

For me, Croatia was the place of disasters that started long before I was born, swept me and my family up, and caused our expulsion--which had continued until just a few years earlier. Could the tide have turned? I wanted to know. I wanted to go beneath the surface to learn what was happening in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, with which my family had such deep roots. This is the story of our time in Croatia, of conversations with and unique insights gained from interactions with the locals.

The Victorians
pdf | 98.99 MB | Author :A. N. Wilson

Book Description :

A dramatic, revisionist panorama of an age whose material triumphs and spiritual crises prefigure our own.
The nineteenth century saw greater changes than any previous era: in the ways nations and societies were organized, in scientific knowledge, and in nonreligious intellectual development. The crucial players in this drama were the British, who invented both capitalism and imperialism and were incomparably the richest, most important investors in the developing world. In this sense, England's position has strong resemblances to America's in the late twentieth century.

As one of our most accomplished biographers and novelists, A. N. Wilson has a keen eye for a good story, and in this spectacular work he singles out those writers, statesmen, scientists, philosophers, and soldiers whose lives illuminate so grand and revolutionary a history: Darwin, Marx, Gladstone, Christina Rossetti, Gordon, Cardinal Newman, George Eliot, Kipling. Wilson's accomplishment in this book is to explain through these signature lives how Victorian England started a revolution that still hasn't ended. 65 illustrations
