Dead Man's Debt
epub | 479.07 KB | English | Elliott Kay | 2016 | Page: 502
About Dead Man's Debt :
"WE REQUIRE A DIFFERENT BATTLEFIELD."
Nobody expected the war to last three hours, let alone three years. The star system of Archangel holds the line against invading corporate fleets, but a quarter of its territory is already lost. The navy can't hang on much longer. Faced with this grim truth, Archangel's leaders shift their strategy to diplomacy and espionage. For both arenas, they call upon a reluctant weapon: a frontline grunt named Tanner Malone.
These days, Tanner doesn't aspire to win the war. He merely wants to survive it. Now he'll be thrust into the center of events once again, pulled back and forth from covert missions to the media spotlight. Yet with every battle, he gets closer to the old enemy hidden in the shado, and the ugly truth about the war that could unravel everything Archangel might hope to win.

Restless to forge her own destiny in this fantastic modern life, the bold noblewoman Anna and her enigmatic Android Karenina abandon a loveless marriage to seize passion with the daring, handsome Count Vronsky. About Golden State Ben H Winters :
A shocking vision of our future that is one part Minority Report and one part Chinatown.
Lazlo Ratesic is 54, a 19-year veteran of the Speculative Service, from a family of law enforcement and in a strange alternate society that values law and truth above all else. This is how Laz must, by law, introduce himself, lest he fail to disclose his true purpose or nature, and by doing so, be guilty of a lie.
Laz is a resident of The Golden State, a nation resembling California, where like-minded Americans retreated after the erosion of truth and the spread of lies made public life, and governance, increasingly impossible. There, surrounded by the high walls of compulsory truth-telling, knowingly contradicting the truth-the Objectively So-is the greatest possible crime. Stopping those crimes, punishing them, is Laz's job. In its service, he is one of the few individuals permitted to harbor untruths-to "speculate"...

Last security officerman 01 Last security officerman Ben H Winters
epub | 2.44 MB | English | Ben H. Winters | 2012 | Quirk Books | Page: 322
About Last security officerman 01 Last security officerman Ben H Winters :
"[The] weird, beautiful, unapologetically apocalyptic Last security officerman trilogy is one of my favorite mystery series."-John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns
Winner of the 2013 Edgar® Award Winner for Best Paperback Original!
What's the point in solving murders if we're all going to die soon, anyway?
Detective Hank Palace has faced this question ever since asteroid 2011GV1 hovered into view. There's no chance left. No hope. Just six precious months until impact.
The Last security officerman presents a fascinating portrait of a pre-apocalyptic United States. The economy spirals downward while crops rot in the fields. Churches and synagogues are packed. People all over the world are walking off the job-but not Hank Palace. He's investigating a death by hanging in a city that sees a dozen suicides every week-except this one feels suspicious, and Palace is the only cop who cares.
The first in a trilogy, The Last security officerman offers a mystery set on the brink of an apocalypse. As Palace's investigation plays out under the shadow of 2011GV1, we're confronted by hard questions way beyond "whodunit." What basis does civilization rest upon? What is life worth? What would any of us do, what would we really do, if our days were numbered?
Ebook contains an excerpt from the anticipated second book in the trilogy, Countdown City.

Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters Ben H Winters
epub | 1.02 MB | English | Winters, Ben H. | 2020 | Quirk Books | Page: 506
About Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters Ben H Winters :
From the publisher of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies comes a new tale of romance, heartbreak, and tentacled mayhem.
Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters expands the original text of the beloved Jane Austen novel with all-new scenes of giant lobsters, rampaging octopi, two-headed sea serpents, and other biological monstrosities. As our story opens, the Dashwood sisters are evicted from their childhood home and sent to live on a mysterious island full of savage creatures and dark secrets. While sensible Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars, her romantic sister Marianne is courted by both the handsome Willoughby and the hideous man-monster Colonel Brandon. Can the Dashwood sisters triumph over meddlesome matriarchs and unscrupulous rogues to find true love? Or will they fall prey to the tentacles that are forever snapping at their heels? This masterful portrait of Regency England blends Jane Austen's biting social commentary with ultraviolent depictions of sea monsters biting. It's survival of the fittest-and only the swiftest swimmers will find true love!

From Publishers Weekly
This latest effort to combine Jane Austen mania and pop culture horror takes the same format as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies minus the innovation of being the first to do so. Using the familiar plot structure of Austen's first novel, and a few of the most famous lines, the mannered life of early nineteenth century gentry is stripped of witty dialogue and replaced with monsters, vulgarity, and violence. When Mr. Dashwood is eaten by a hammerhead shark his daughters Marianne and Elinor, along with their sister and mother, are sent to Pestilent Island where they meet Sir John Middleton, owner of the islands, and squid-faced Colonel Brandon. Marianne is rescued from a giant octopus by Mr. Willoughby, causing her to fall in love with him. Meanwhile, Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars who is engaged to the evil Lucy Steele. Readers who found humor in the contrast between Austen's familiar novel and the addition of zombies will probably welcome this unevenly written effort.

Assessing Performance of Banks in India Fifty Years After Nationalization
pdf | 2.83 MB | English | 0014431 | 2020 | Springer; 1st ed. 2020 edition | Page: 243
About Assessing Performance of Banks in India Fifty Years After Nationalization :
This book assesses the performance of banks in India over the past several decades, and discusses their current status after fifty years of nationalization. The performance of different categories of banks is evaluated by employing both the traditional ratio analysis and more sophisticated efficiency techniques. The book also explores the market conditions under which Indian banks operate. Going beyond a formal banking study, the book also investigates the causes of the widespread presence of informal credit in parallel to its formal banking counterpart. This approach makes it more comprehensive, unique and closer to the real world.
After 50 years of nationalization, India's banking sector is at a crossroads, given the huge and unabated non-performing assets and talks of consolidation. This book, encompassing both the formal and the predominantly 'trust-based' informal credit system, provides essential insights for bankers and policymakers, which will be invaluable in their endeavours to implement meaningful changes. It may also spark new research in the fields of banking performance and efficiency analysis. Lastly, the book not only has significant implications for students of economics, banking, finance and management, but also offers an important resource to support training courses for banking personnel in India.

Supernatural Inmate by Avery Song, Veronica Agnus
epub | 1.07 MB | English | Avery Song, Veronica Agnus | 2020 | Page: N/A
About Supernatural Inmate by Avery Song, Veronica Agnus :
It seems my destiny is to break out of one prison, only to jump right into another. Then again, who would have thought Dubai would have a luxurious jail for supernaturals?
For me, former human Cassandra Thorn, it's been a difficult few months. After being kidnapped and tossed into the psychic prison for supernaturals, I learned the truth of my birth and the reality of my identity, which, it turns out, is the furthest thing from human.
Now my powers have been unleashed, but before I can explore them, I have to complete dangerous rescue mission. Because being a supernatural outlaw sometimes means hopping right into another prison to find the answers - and people - you seek.
I won't be alone this time, though. My four lovers are at my side, because they know the best way to keep me safe is working right alongside me as I unleash my diabolical plans. Besides, what better way is there to bond than by sharing a massive jail cell with a four-poster bed, pixie room service, and three hours of free time to do whatever the hell we want?
This seems like a prison I could get used to, but duty calls. The answers we need lie in the depths of the hidden city of paradise, and this time, we may struggle to find our way out.
Time to slap on the handcuffs and hope that playful Tristan, deadly Otis, seductive Adonis, and powerful Dominick can get us out before we're really sentenced to life imprisonment.

The New York Nobody Kno Walking 6,000 Miles in the City by William B Helmreich
epub | 5.21 MB | English | William B. Helmreich | 2018 | Princeton University Press | Page: 376
About The New York Nobody Kno Walking 6,000 Miles in the City by William B Helmreich :
As a child growing up in Manhattan, William Helmreich played a game with his father called "Last Stop." They would pick a subway line, ride it to its final destination, and explore the neighborhood. Decades later, his love for exploring the city is as strong as ever.
Putting his feet to the test, he decided that the only way to truly understand New York was to walk virtually every block of all five boroughs-an astonishing 6,000 miles. His journey took him to every corner of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Helmreich spoke with hundreds of New Yorkers from every part of the globe and all walks of life. He finds that to be a New Yorker is to struggle to understand the place and to make a life that is as highly local as it is dynamically cosmopolitan.
Truly unforgettable, The New York Nobody Kno will forever change how you view the world's greatest city.

Transmission Error by Michael Kurland
epub | 322.91 KB | English | Michael Kurland | 2020 | Lume Books | Page: 176
About Transmission Error by Michael Kurland :
Daniel Godfrey has been sentenced to be transported to a prison planet for a crime he didn't commit
But something goes wrong with the transmatter device, and Daniel and his companions are thrust onto an alien world whose people are more human than they have any right to be.
This is a place where pirate ships fly, giant birds recite poetry and eat people, and the moving city of Beloparsus is slowly and ponderously approaching the sea.
And somewhere on the planet, for a reason Daniel cannot guess, someone is trying to kill him.
Praise for Michael Kurland
'Michael Kurland wanders along a tight-rope between story and style. His plots are imaginative and his relating of same is damnably clever. There are double and triple entendres and inside jokes about science fiction and its writers' - The Readers' Guide to Science Fiction
'Kurland's science fiction is fast paced, rich in descriptions of unusual societies, and filled with action' - The New Encyclopedia of Science Fiction
'Kurland has the talent to create and sustain interesting characters and he paces his fiction so well it sails along with the reader in tow-happily in tow'' - Science Fiction Review
