Snowden's Box Trust in the Age of Surveillance by Jessica Bruder
epub | 1.92 MB | English | Jessica Bruder, Dale Maharidge | 2020 | Verso Books
About Snowden's Box Trust in the Age of Surveillance by Jessica Bruder :
Two behind-the-scenes players in the edward snowden story reflect on the meaning of snowden's revelations in our age of surveillance
One day in the spring of 2013, a box appeared outside a fourth-floor apartment door in Brooklyn, New York. The recipient, who didn't know the sender, only knew she was supposed to bring this box to a friend, who would ferry it to another friend. This was Edward Snowden's box-materials proving that the U.S. government had built a massive surveillance apparatus and used it to spy on its own people-and the friend on the end of this chain was filmmaker Laura Poitras.
Thus the biggest national security leak of the digital era was launched via a remarkably analog network, the US Postal Service. This is just one of the odd, ironic details that emerges from the story of how Jessica Bruder and Dale Maharidge, two experienced journalists but security novices (and the friends who received and ferried the box) got drawn into...

The Philosophy Cure by Laurence Devillairs
epub | 1.86 MB | English | Laurence Devillairs | St. Martin's Publishing Group
About The Philosophy Cure by Laurence Devillairs :
The wisdom of famous philosophers distilled into practical takeaways for modern readers
For centuries, philosophers have considered the "big questions" of human life, ,.ng over everything from ethics to the definition of reality. Their ideas and insights are powerful and innovative, but often inaccessible and far too academic for most readers. In The Philosophy Cure: Lessons on Living from the Great Philosophers, scholar and expert on Cartesian philosophy, Laurence Devillairs has stripped away the convoluted language, translating the core ideas and wisdom of some of the most prominent philosophers into simple concepts for modern readers. She skillfully reveals that far from being impractical or distantly academic, philosophy is, at its heart, a deeply useful discipline ultimately concerned with what it means to live a good and fulfilling life.
Perfect for readers who are intrigued with philosophy, but who are uninterested in reading dense...

epub | 1.54 MB | English | Joseph Mercola | 2017 | Hay House
About Fat for Fuel A Revolutionary Diet to Combat Cancer, Boost Brain Power, and Increase Your Energy :
For over a century, we've accepted the scientific consensus that cancer results from genetic disease due to chromosomal damage in cell nuclei. But what if cancer isn't a genetic disease after all? What if scientists are chasing a flawed paradigm, and cancer isn't a disease of damaged DNA but rather of defective metabolism as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction? What if that startling truth could revolutionize our understanding of other diseases as well-and show us a radical new path to optimal health? In this groundbreaking guide, the first of its kind, New York Times best-selling author and leading natural-health practitioner Joseph Mercola explains how nearly all disease is caused by defective metabolic processes. Then he reveals what's really causing your metabolism to go haywire: damage and dysfunction in the mitochondria, thousands of which are at work in nearly every cell in your body, generating 90 percent of the energy you need to stay...

Alessandro Girola Kaijumachia Il Sussurro della Sfinge (2017)
epub | 195.54 KB | Italian | Alessandro Girola | Plutonia Publications
About Alessandro Girola Kaijumachia Il Sussurro della Sfinge (2017) :

About Alessandro Girola Kaijumachia Megaevento (2017) :

David Quammen Spillover (2020)
mobi | 1.53 MB | David Quammen | 0101 | Adelphi
About David Quammen Spillover (2020) :

Alessandro Girola Kaijumachia Tigre Blu (2016)
epub | 196.43 KB | Italian | Alessandro Girola | Plutonia Publications
About Alessandro Girola Kaijumachia Tigre Blu (2016) :
Caduti in agguato, i russi vengono dispersi e decimati.

Attention A Love Story by Casey Schwartz
epub | 912.48 KB | English | Casey Schwartz | 2020 | Pantheon
About Attention A Love Story by Casey Schwartz :
Combining expert storytelling with genuine self-scrutiny, Casey Schwartz details the decade she spend taking Adderall to help her pay attention (or so she thought) and then considers the role of attention in defining our lives as it has been understood by thinkers such as William James, David Foster Wallace, and Simone Weil. From our craving for distraction to our craving for a cure, from Silicon Valley consultants and psychedelic researchers to the findings of trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté, Schwartz takes us on an eye-opening tour of the modern landscape of attention.
Blending memoir, biography, and original reporting, Schwarz examines her attempts to preserve her authentic life and decide what is most important in it. Attention : A Love Story will resonate with readers who want to determine their own minds, away from the siren call of their screens.
Review
"Attention: A Love Story had me rapt. Casey Schwartz is a formidable reporter, a rigorous researcher and a true artist of prose. She makes complicated information easily understood and elevates seemingly simple observations to a richer plain of meaning. More than that, though (and this is the toughest job in the business) she is an honest broker when it comes to telling her own story. Unflinching yet never confessional, this book took me to uncomfortable places but always in the most capable hands. It's the finest of its kind I've read in ages." -Meghan Daum, author of The Problem With Everything: My Journey Through The New Culture Wars
"An extraordinary and moving treatment of that most ineffable of topics: our own attention and how we spend it. Schwartz has successfully mixed her own experiences with Tom Wolfe-like journalism to create an utterly engaging read." -Tim Wu, author of The Attention Merchants
"An insightful hybrid of memoir and academic study . . . Thought-provoking . . . This is a rich inquiry into what it means to pay (and maintain) attention in a world increasingly permeated with distraction and interference." - Publisher's Weekly
"A personal and professional study of the struggle with attention in an age of distraction . . . Unfailingly honest . . . By personalizing her account, and her journey, [Schwartz] enhances the book's potency without diluting its authority . . . Being attentive is an acquired skill. Schwartz helps us think deeply and clearly about what it offers us." - Kirkus Revie (starred review)
"Essential . . . Attention : A Love Story asks two simple questions: 'Why are we so susceptible to all the escape routes our technologies offer us in the first place?' and 'What are we fleeing?'" - Bitch Media
"With fascinating research and illuminating intervie, this is ruminative, provocative, and discussion worthy." - Booklist

Praise for Death at the Diogenes Club!
"I cannot recommend this series enough to mystery lovers, Sherlock fans, and anyone looking for a story with a strong female lead. Death at the Diogenes Club is a wonderful addition to a strong and captivating series." The Nerdy Girl Express
"I l-o-v-e the series! All six books have been amazing. In 'Diogenes' we have an added element of romance, but, again the key word is 'romance.' Too many authors confuse sex with romance. There's a big difference. Thankfully, our authors 'get it' and provide the emotion without the seediness. Well-written from start to finish, this is THE series to read and share with your middle/high college readers. Five Stars!" Devoted Mommy of 3.com Book Spotlight
More praise for the Sherlock and Lucy Series!
Cosy Christmas reading at its best! This series of Sherlock Holmes retellings is a joy to read and proves a worthy addition to the Holmesian canon. In a word . . . fun!
dannii.elle.reads (Instagram)
"It might be difficult to imagine the original Holmes even having an offspring -- much less one he accepts as an investigating partner. Still, the authors make it seem plausible, and for readers who are not purists but rather pleased to see a hint of warmth coming from Holmes, [the Sherlock & Lucy series] is a new way to enjoy Sherlockian mysteries." -- The Santa Barbara Independent
"Elliott (the Twilight of Avon trilogy) and Veley, her father, collaborate on the winning third mystery pairing Sherlock Holmes and his daughter, Lucy James. Readers will look forward to Lucy's further adventures." -- Publishers Weekly (Remember, Remember: A Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery, Book 3)
"Fans of Holmesian stories, historical fiction, and Victorian romance will all find something to enjoy in the Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery Series." -- Critical Blast
**
"[Lucy James is an] independent, strong feminist young woman who is unafraid to take care of herself even in very uncomfortable situations. This fact alone sets [The Sherlock & Lucy series] apart from most Regency historicals or other Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Women are generally damsels in distress, but not Lucy!" -- Tynga's Revie
**
"I absolutely loved Remember, Remember and think it's the perfect book for Sherlock Holmes fans, as well as mystery lovers. I cannot praise this book and its authors enough for this well written and imaginative story." - The Nerdy Girl Express
**
"Reading this novel was a very delightful way to spend an afternoon. Remember, Remember will not only appeal to fans of Sherlock Holmes, but also to those who love The Secret Life Anna Blanc, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, and A Curious Beginning. - History from a Woman's Perspective
**
"Elliot's writing style is solid and easy to become absorbed in. She gives Lucy a strong narrative voice, which caused the plot to both flow well and pack a punch. Her world building of 1897 London is vivid and skilled, making it a very high point of the novel. She unravels the mystery at a steady pace, showing her talent for creating a storyline that hooks her readers and keeps them wanting more. [...] A very fun story, and an inventive take on some very timeless classics." - The Quirky Book Nerd
