While she couldn't care less about organic snacks (paleo-preferred) or the winter quarters of the Little Wonders chickens, she's not about to admit...

Type :epub | 309.19 KB | English | TaraShea Nesbit | Bloomsbury Publishing

Description: <p id="freeText2863965699447194415">From the bestselling author of The Wives of Los Alamos comes the riveting story of a stranger's arrival in the fledgling colony of Plymouth, Massachusetts―and a crime that shakes the divided community to its core.

Ten years after the Mayflower pilgrims arrived on rocky, unfamiliar soil, Plymouth is not the land its residents had imagined. Seemingly established on a dream of religious freedom, in reality the town is led by fervent puritans who prohibit the residents from living, trading, and worshipping as they choose. By the time an unfamiliar ship, bearing new colonists, appears on the horizon one summer morning, Anglican outsiders have had enough.

With gripping, immersive details and exquisite prose, TaraShea Nesbit reframes the story of the pilgrims in the previously unheard voices of two women of very different status and means. She evokes a vivid, ominous Plymouth, populated by famous and unknown characters alike, each with conflicting desires and questionable behavior.

Suspenseful and beautifully wrought, Beheld is about a murder and a trial, and the motivations―personal and political―that cause people to act in unsavory ways. It is also an intimate portrait of love, motherhood, and friendship that asks: Whose stories get told over time, who gets believed―and subsequently, who gets punished?

"Untamed will liberate women-emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It is phenomenal."-Elizabeth Gilbert, author of City of Girls and Eat Pray Love [/b]
This is how you find yourself.

There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn't it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding...

Description: New York Times bestselling author Seth Siegel tells how contaminants got in our drinking water, what they're doing to us, and what we must do to make our water safe.
If you thought America's drinking water problems started and ended in Flint, Michigan, think again. From big cities and suburbs to the rural heartland, chemicals linked to cancer, heart disease, obesity, birth defects, and lowered IQ routinely spill from our taps.
Many are to blame: the EPA, Congress, a bipartisan coalition of powerful governors and mayors, chemical companies, and drinking water utilities - even NASA and the Pentagon. Meanwhile, the bottled water industry has been fanning our fears about tap water, but bottled water is often no safer.
The tragedy is that existing technologies could launch a new age of clean, healthy, and safe tap water for only a few dollars a week per person.
Scrupulously researched, Troubled Water is full of shocking stories...

Description: For readers of Democracy in Chains and Dark Money, a revelatory investigation of the Religious Right's rise to political power.

For too long the Religious Right has masqueraded as a social movement preoccupied with a number of cultural issues, such as abortion and same-sex marriage. But in her deeply reported investigation, Katherine Stewart reveals a disturbing truth: America's Religious Right has evolved into a Christian nationalist movement. It seeks to gain political power and to impose its vision on all of society. It isn't fighting a culture war, it is waging a political war on the norms and institutions of American democracy.

Stewart sho that the real power of the movement lies in a dense network of think tanks, advocacy groups, and pastoral organizations, embedded in a rapidly expanding community of international alliances with likeminded, anti-democratic religious nationalists around the world, including Russia. She follo the...

Description: You're probably never going to be a saint. Even so, let's face it: you could be a better person. We all could. But what does that mean for you?

In a world full of suffering and deprivation, it's easy to despair-and it's also easy to judge ourselves for not doing more. Even if we gave away everything we own and devoted ourselves to good works, it wouldn't solve all the world's problems. It would make them better, though. So is that what we have to do? Is anything less a moral failure? Can we lead a fundamentally decent life without taking such drastic steps?

Todd May has answers. He's not the sort of philosopher who tells us we have to be model citizens who display perfect ethics in every decision we make. He's realistic: he understands that living up to ideals is a constant struggle. In A Decent Life, May leads readers through the traditional philosophical bases of a number of arguments about what ethics asks of us, then he develops a more...

From religious mystics and political dissidents to erotic playwrights and romantic poets, no subject or literary form is left untouched. In honor of those women whose pens pioneered, persevered, and proved that the female voice is brilliant, The Book of Awesome Women Writers is an invitation to celebrate the unforgettable impact these women have made upon our culture.

Description: A late 30s The Wrong Knickers meets Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Eleanor finds herself in her late 30s on a beach in India with three old ladies, trying to 'find herself' and 'discover her family history' like some sad middle-class crisis cliché. How did she get here? Truthfully, it could be for any one of the below reasons, if not all combined: Stepmum dying/Stepdad leaving - family falling apart, subsequent psychotic break; both parents now on third marriage Breaking up with J after 12 years - breaking up a whole life, a whole fucking universe - for reasons that may have been... misguided? New boyfriend moving in immediately, me insisting 'it's not a rebound!' even after everyone has stopped listening, being cited in his messy divorce, him being sectioned, then breaking up with me Going into therapy after dating a potentially violent, certainly threatening, narcissist (the most pertinent point of which should be noted: I did not break up with him - he ghosted me)...

Type :epub | 38.23 MB | English | Darcy Gaechter | 2020 | Pegasus Books

Description: This 148-day journey began on Darcy Gaetcher's 35th birthday. The emotional waters that would fester and erupt on the ensuing journey was often more challenging to navigate than the mighty river itself. With blistering lips and irradiated fingernails, Darcy would tackle raging Class Five whitewater for twenty-five days straight, barely survived a dynamite-filled canyon being prepared for a new hydroelectric plan. She and her two companions would encounter illegal loggers, narco-traffickers, murderous Shining Path rebels, and ruthless poachers in the black market trade in endangered species. They would plead for mercy at the hands of the murderous Ashaninka people who were convinced that they had come to steal their children's organs. In a desperate attempt meant to give her some pretense of control, Darcy even cut off all her hair before entering Peru's notoriously dangerous "Red Zone" in hopes of passing for a boy and being seen as less of a target. At once a heart-pounding adventure and a celebration of pushing personal limits, Amazon Woman speaks to all of us feeling trapped by our desk-bound, online society. This a story of finding the courage and strength to challenge nature, cultures, social norms, and oneself.

Review
"A well-paced tale of outdoor adventure. Daring readers will be inspired to overcome similar challenges-and armchair travelers won't be disappointed." , Kirkus Revie
"A roller coaster thrill ride, both physically and emotionally. Yet, riding rapids pales in comparison to having to face down the darkest elements of human nature.  A riveting definition of true fortitude. Readers will be inspired by her audacious sense of adventure and courage, and when combined with her vulnerability, Darcy becomes a Wonder Woman for the ages." -- Julie Moss, Ironman Hall of Fame athlete and author of Crawl of Fame
"The same courage and relentlessness that propelled Darcy Gaechter down the Amazon also powers this terrific book. Thanks to writing that is both lyrical and self-reflective, Amazon Woman manages to become at once an inspiring adventure story and a deeply intimate memoir." -- Eli Saslow, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and author of Rising out of Hatred
"Darcy's trip down the Amazon serves as a reminder that the beauty of life is not in the destination, it's in the journey. Darcy is a role model and an example of what you can accomplish when you follow your dreams." -- Tejay Van Garderen, professional road racing cyclist
"Darcy Gaetcher navigates Class V whitewater and evades armed drug cartels while uncovering the deep and complex roots of her own passion for adventure. As the first woman to paddle the Amazon River from source to sea, she leverages extreme skill and endurance against refreshing humility. Amazon Woman shares a remarkable journey that runs, like the river itself, with both turbulence and grace." -- Caroline Van Hemert, author of The Sun is a Compass
"A powerful, adventure-filled memoir, beginning with the first page.", Booklist
