This course is based off a best selling course, the original Mastering Planning, which has been a front page featured course in the Productivity section of Udemy.

Here are the improvements over the first version:

1. The course includes 9 downloadable templates for implementing the system in a purely digital system. The previous version was based on hand-written templates that you had to print out.

2. The drawings have been re-done and significantly improved in detail and color. The previous version had only hand-drawn papers which were not downloadable and the handwriting was hard to read.

3. There are several new templates/sub-systems that were not included in the previous version. These include the process, project and task management systems.

4. You get access to the complete life organization taxonomy (213 sub folders [aka sub-categories) within the "Big 4" System of Professional, Personal, Relationship and Health life sections) for FREE. This previously required buying my separate Mastering Organization course. I decided to include this to improve integration of the systems.

5. You get access to the Routines manager and Weekly planning digital templates, which were previously sold separately as a course. These didn't exist in the first version.

By the end of this course, you will be able to create a PLC program from scratch.
The primary and overall objective of this course is to give a novice an understanding of PLC programming, ladder logic, and the inner workings of a standard HMI (Human-Machine Interface).
Students will learn the difference between digital and analog signals and how to bring them into a PLC, process them, and send them back out.
Students will be familiarized enough with a sufficient variety of ladder logic instructions to create a complete PLC program from scratch.
Students will explore basic, standard controls techniques for things like HOA control, level control, pump control, and (on at least an introductory level) PID control loops.
Students will develop an understanding of alarm and notification programming, and the relevant considerations to safety and operator usability.
Students will be introduced to HMI development and given a general understanding of how an HMI program works.

Requirements
There is no software, hardware or experience required in order to complete this course, but practicing the techniques discussed on an emulator or live PLC are necessary steps toward eventual mastery.

Using the Rockwell software RSLogix 500 and FactoryTalk View Studio, we will be covering such topics as general controls, digital and analog IO, ladder logic programming, alarm / notification handling, HMI, emulation, best practices and more.

Why Are There Four PLC Courses?

PLC I teaches you how to program with the focus on ladder logic, which is the most popular PLC programming language. The goal is to teach you everything you need to know to make a PLC do what you want it to do. You are also given all the software necessary to both CREATE and RUN your own programs live - right on your own computer.

PLC II forces you to take what you've learned and solve problem after progressively harder problem unassisted. You get a spec and are told simply: "Make it work, and don't progress until you have." After, you get to watch me solve each one as well. By the end, you don't just know how to program - you are a PROGRAMMER.

Description

As a PLC programmer, you will usually find yourself working alone, unsupported and with nobody to help you but Google. Your boss or client will tell you what they need, and the only thing they want to hear from you is, "Here it is." And when you deliver, it goes without saying that the expectation is - that it WORKS!

This is the course the acclimates you to the real world. This isn't the classroom anymore; this is war! You vs the PLC.

In this course, we hit the ground RUNNING. I designed this course to build upon the theoretical training students received in "PLC Programming from Scratch" by taking that knowledge (plus a few new pieces) and constructing original ladder logic applications to solve everyday, industrial problems.

Using the Rockwell software RSLogix 500, RSLinx and RSLogix 500 Emulate, you will be given various descriptions / specifications for programs and then expected to write each one from scratch. After, I will walk everybody through my own approach to each problem step-by-step. Lastly, we'll run each project on the emulator and debug as required before moving on to the next section.

This course is 100% practical! It is expected and assumed that you got the theoretical in my previous PLC course, and as such, this course contains NO REFRESHERS. This is all new material! There ARE a few new instructions used in this course, and those will be properly introduced, but you should already know how to use blocks like XIC, XIO, OTE, ONS, SCP, JSR and etc.. Again - this is an INTERMEDIATE course. It has a PREREQUISITE course before it. Don't try to walk before you crawl and then get all sour and mad about it when you fall down.

Let me be clear: you WILL struggle in this course. That's the whole point. My first PLC course has a lot of group hugs, hand-holding, warm bottles of milk and hippie drum circles all in a safe, friendly, positive learning environment. This course is NOT like that. This is boot camp. This is you being thrown into the deep end of the swimming pool... with a shark. If you want to get frustrated, wrack your brain trying to solve hard problems and learn what it's like being a PLC programmer - this is your course! You'll come out of it better, faster and smarter. As a PLC programmer, there are two sides of the coin that you MUST know to get the job done, and those are the PLC and the HMI. In my first two PLC courses, you learned the ins and outs of PLC and have already created some pretty complex programs to run machines.

But if people aren't able to interact with those machines, they aren't going to be of much use! In this course, you're going to learn about HMI and SCADA by creating graphical interfaces operators will use to monitor automated process, establish operating parameters, and even acquire and warehouse data from a running system.

We'll also be working hands-on with InduSoft, EasyBuilder 5000 and AdvancedHMI, and hands-off with FactoryTalk View Studio and C-More so by the end of this course, you're going to actually know and have working experience with most of what people are using in the world of automation today.

What you'll learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to create HMI / SCADA interfaces using various technologies allowing operators to interact with a live, running system.
Using the provided PLC program as the basis for our interfaces, you'll be creating fully-functional graphical interfaces to monitor the process, visualize alarms, provide control and even log periodic and on-demand data storing it into a SQL database.
Are there any course requirements or prerequisites?
You will need to download a VERY LARGE archive in order to take full advantage of this course. That file is OVER 30gb! The alternative is to download a LOT of software individually and install and configure it all bit by bit. While I DO provide guidance for doing that in the course, I CANNOT provide one-on-one support.
All software required for this course (except for VMWare if you use a Mac) will be provided. That being said, the versions provided are unregistered, not activated and running in demo mode. Continued use of these programs requires purchase, activation and licensure, however all of it will work for a limited time (adequate to complete this course). So you won't have to pay for software to learn, but the software WILL eventually stop working at the end of the various trial periods.
The only software you need to worry about being able to run is VMWare. If you have a Windows PC, you can download VMWare Player for free. If you have a Mac, you will need to purchase a copy of VMWare Workstation... or use a Windows computer.
Familiarity with RSLogix 500, RSLinx and RSLogix 500 Emulate is required for this course.
Who this course is for:
This course requires students to already know the basics of PLC programming. You should already be familiar with RSLogix 500 memory / IO addresses. As we will be developing interfaces against a running instance of a PLC program running live on RSLogix 500 Emulate, you should already be familiar with that software as well as RSLinx and RSLogix 500.

In this course you will learn how to use OrCAD (a.k.a. Allegro or PSPICE) software. OrCAD / Allegro is the industry standard in professional used to design all kinds of printed circuit boards, from the boards inside your smartphone to motherboards and electric vehicles. It is one of the top 3 most used software for electronic design by the biggest companies. If you are seeking greater opportunities at larger corporations, then Allegro / OrCAD is the smartest choice in North America.

Some thoughts

Just to discuss something that might be on your mind - what about Altium? Altium is also a smart choice in North America and other parts of the world as it is gaining popularity. Altium is also generally easier to learn on your own, so really it is up to you and what your company needs.

However, OrCAD Standard and Professional are lower in cost compared to Altium and Cadence occasionally sells a Standard perpetual license at under $800, maybe 3 times a year. That's right, the full Standard, with PSPICE now. For a professional industry giant PCB software, that's really hard to beat.

OrCAD in Industry

I work with older electronics design engineers who are still using OrCAD 16.5 and 16.6 and trust me, they aren't learning any other new PCB design software any time soon (one already knows Altium 15, but doesn't have time to re-learn the latest versions, so he uses OrCAD). Since I use OrCAD 17.2, it makes it much easier to work with them. However, I think if I was at a different company, like a startup or mid-sized company, there would be more flexibility for other software.

Of course other options are there as well, so PADS if you're in the China region, or Zuken and EAGLE in the Japan region. Lastly, Cadence Design Systems (the makers of OrCAD software) is growing its footprint. You're better off learning OrCAD and another PCB design tool as well, but definitely pick up OrCAD at some point along the way. It will increase your job opportunities tremendously like it did for me. So that's just my two cents.

The Circuits You Will Be Designing

This introductory course shows you how to create 3 very simple printed circuit boards:

1. A 2-layer LED + Resistor circuit with 2 connectors

2. A 2-layer asynchronous multivibrator circuit with 2 transistors, 4 resistors, 2 capacitors, 2 LEDs, connectors, and test points

3. A 4-layer re-mixed version of the asynchronous multivibrator circuit that also includes a 555 timer chip and 3D modeling.

The above circuits have just the right amount of simplicity for you to focus on the electronics engineering design process. At the same time, the above circuit projects have enough variety to demonstrate the skills you need to create through-hole and surface-mount footprints and finish a simple PCB.

This course focuses on the simple and on principles and the process. I also reveal my general blueprint for PCB design that you can always keep with you to help you remember the phases to build a PCB in OrCAD, EAGLE, Altium, etc.

Who this course IS for

College / University Students: If you're in ECE getting your bachelor's degree, you have access to academic licensing for a year. Take advantage of it, because the older design engineers are most likely using Allegro and OrCAD. This software will give you the best advantage at looking attractive for a PCB design role. You will also be able to get started with some designs and practically perform with your team.

Junior / Senior hardware design engineers: I can't tell you how much easier it would be if our PCB designer would work in OrCAD / Allegro instead of PADS. Of course, where you work matters though. If your company is using EAGLE then don't expect any movement if you know OrCAD. However, you can expect to get interviews from other companies that are looking to get big or already-big companies. With your skills plus this software, you will be insanely attractive to employers.

Beginners, Hobbyists: Those who are looking to get into a professional or commercial PCB design software but don't know which one to start with. Honestly, you can start with OrCAD or Altium. If you already know Altium, then learn OrCAD next. With those two under your portfolio and some projects completed you will be highly attractive for freelance design work or if you decide to get into the industry.

Who this course is NOT for

People only looking for a complex PCB with blind and buried vias, 6+ layer stack-ups, high speed design and EMI design. While this course does take advantage of some EMI design principles (I've designed <1% ripple and low-noise regulators before, so a couple habits get into project 3), its focus is on systematizing the process for beginners to the software or the PCB design process or both, so I keep the circuits simple.

Why should you start becoming familiar with OrCAD?

Once you learn OrCAD, you can learn any other PCB design software, quickly and easily. OrCAD and Allegro are the industry standard PCB design software for printed circuit board designs. Every serious electronics design engineer should know OrCAD to be more competitive in the hardware design engineering field and the computer tech industry.
