Descirption: When boys enter puberty, they tend to get quiet-or at least quieter than before-and parents often misread their signals. Here's how to navigate their retreat and steer them through this confusing passage, by the bestsellingauthor of The Care and Keeping of You series and Guy Stuff: The Body Book for Boys.

What is my son doing behind his constantly closed door? What's with his curt responses, impulsiveness, newfound obsession with gaming, and . . . that funky smell? As pediatrician and mother of two teenagers Cara Natterson explains, puberty starts in boys long before any visible signs appear, which causes confusion about their changing temperaments for boys and their parents alike. Often, they also grow quieter as they grow taller, which leads to less parent-child communication. But, as Natterson warns in Decoding Boys, we respect their increasing "need" for privacy, monosyllabic conversations, and alone time at their...

Descirption: He's semi-retired and de-licensed, but Cliff Hardy is once again fighting for justice and tracking down evil when his cousin is brutally murdered-did the shotgun blast find its target, or was it meant for Hardy?
Hardy has never been much of a family man, so when he meets his second cousin Patrick Malloy it's like being hit with a left hook to the solar plexus-Malloy is his double. Cliff and his cousin become friends and travel to attend a gathering of the Irish Travellers, the gypsy-like folk from whom they are descended. On their return, Malloy is brutally murdered-but perhaps the shotgun blast was intended for Hardy. He is semi-retired, but this investigation is personal. The plot becomes still more personal when Malloy's ex-wife, Sheila, comes onto the scene. Hardy has his own enemies and Malloy's to consider as he searches for the killer. Clues point in many directions-to Sheila's motives, to Malloy's suspect business dealings, and to his time as a mercenary in Angola. The search takes Hardy north to a paramilitary training camp and south to a meeting of Traveller descendants in Kangaroo Valley. Other players have other interests and their playing style is ruthless.

Peter Corris Cliff Hardy 38 Dunbar Case (v5)
Type : epub |
Size : 459.62 KB |
English |
9781742698014 |

Descirption: Private Investigator Cliff Hardy's 39th case sees him leaving the mean streets of Sydney for Newcastle, investigating what a famous 19th century shipwreck has to do with a multi-million dollar heist with a cast of characters that shouldn't be trusted.
This wasn't Hardy's usual brief--uncover the mysteries of a nineteenth-century shipwreck--but he could do with an easy case and the retainer was generous.
But is it ever that simple? Not with a notorious crime family tearing itself apart, and an undercover cop playing both sides against the middle. These and an alluring but fiercely ambitious female journalist give Hardy all the trouble he can handle.
'Ever feel manipulated?' Hardy asks. The body count mounts up as he pushes closer to the truth about the mystery and the loot.

From Publishers Weekly
In Australian author Corris's intriguing well-paced 32nd novel featuring Sydney PI Cliff Hardy (after 2012's Comeback), the investigator tries to untangle a mystery surrounding the sinking of the luxury ship Dunbar in 1857. Academic Henry Wakefield enlists Cliff's help with researching a previously unknown Dunbar survivor, William Dalgarno Twizell, whose only living descendant, great-grandson John Dalgarno Twizell, is in jail. John's a rough character, and the even rougher family headed by mobster Jobe Tanner has it in for him, so when Cliff makes contact with John, the Tanners make contact with Cliff. At issue are valuable historical documents and a hidden fortune, and there are some who are willing to kill for these treasures. Cliff, despite a quadruple bypass and a permanent limp, remains tough enough and savvy enough to give as good as he gets, while complications and the body count both mount. (Oct.)

From Booklist
It's been a few years since Australian PI Cliff Hardy got his license back. He's still getting back up to speed when a university professor approaches him with a mystery involving the century-and-a-half-old wreck of a luxury liner. Cliff figures it should be smooth sailing, but, as fans of the long-running Hardy series know, Cliff's cases have a tendency to get real complicated, real quick. What starts out as a mostly research job (Cliff is trying to find out if there was a previously unrecorded survivor of the wreck and whether the survivor's descendant, a man named Twizell, might know anything about some jewels that were on board the ship) turns into a potentially dangerous situation involving a powerful crime figure (whose daughter, it seems, Twizell brutally assaulted and for which assault he's currently in prison, although he'll happily provide information on his ancestor in exchange for parole). This series debuted nearly 35 years ago, and, despite its being relatively little known in the U.S., you won't find too many mystery series that run this long with such consistently high quality. --David Pitt

9781741146523 |

Descirption: When journalist Louise Kramer hires Cliff Hardy to find Billie Marchant, Hardy heads for unfamiliar territory of the far south-western suburbs of Sydney. Billie claims to have information about media big-wheel Jonas Clement -- the subject of an incriminating expose by Kramer. Clement doesn't want Billie found and Clement's enemies want to find her first. Hardy tracks Billie down, but saving Billie' means not only rescuing her, it means saving her from herself. Billie, ex-stripper, sometime hooker and druggie, is a handful. Hardy gets help from members of the Pacific Islander community and others, but the enemies close in and he is soon fighting on several different fronts. Clement and his chief rival, Barclay Greaves, have heavies in the field, and Hardy has to negotiate his way through their divided loyalties. Some negotiations involve cunning but others involve guns. The action takes place against the backdrop of the Federal election campaign, and all outcomes are uncertain. 'I don't know how many Cliff Hardy novels there are, but there aren't enough.' - Kerry Greenwood, Sydney Morning Herald 'Hardy is a wonderful creation still, under Corris's magisterial narrative control, capable of those odd echoes and resonances, the elegiac interludes, that characterise the best crime writing.' Descirption: In his latest investiagion, private eye Cliff Hardy comes to the aid of retired senior security officerman and longtime friend, Frank Parker. Haunted by a case from his early career involving two doctors, Parker needs Hardy to uncover the truth and find out if one of the doctors, now deceased, was wrongly convicted and if Parker was blinded by the passion he had for the presumed-guilty doctor's wife. Granite-faced Hardy discovers that teasing out the truth is not easy as he sorts through old memories, aging names and faces, and his friend's guilt while encountering the likes of dodgy plastic surgeons, a broken-down ex-copper, a voyeuristic cripple, and a hired hit man who wields a mean baseball bat. Animosities, arrogance, and ambition create a dangerous spider's web around this reluctant hero as Hardy searches for the hard truth.

From Booklist
The long-running series featuring Australian private investigator Cliff Hardy rolls along smoothly. This time Frank Parker, a retired security officerman, tells Cliff that a convicted murderer (now dead) might have been innocent, and that he, Parker, was guilty of a massive conflict of interest, having had an affair with the convicted man's wife. Cliff is fascinated, but how do you go about solving a crime that happened nearly a quarter-century ago? As usual, Corris, who is hailed as the father of Australian crime fiction, dra us completely into Cliff's world and, thanks to the Australian setting, makes the story feel utterly fresh. Pitt, David
