Chapter 14: More Flashbacks
I was continuing, "I finally understood there won't be any good outcome from such discussions with Rahul, so I ended the call.
"Thanks Rahul for helping me out!" I said.

"Of course I am your wife and always in your support," she said in an equally stern voice, "but still I think it's better that Rahul checked your contract papers before sending them to the clients! You should not have any problems, every one of you will surely want the good of the company. They will surely want that you don't make any mistakes even without your knowledge!"
"I'm surprised with you Poroma," I said, "I have been managing clients for years now and never made such a mistake before! Why do you think now that I need Rahul's help?"
"Oh Ranjeet don't be a kid," Poroma reasoned, "I surely know that my Darling hubby is the best sales executive in his office, of course better than Rahul too! I just think you should agree to it because that way your boss will still be happy and won't interfere with your job!"
I was still annoyed but couldn't refuse her logic, Poroma seemed to be looking at the matter from a neutral viewpoint. But was she being attracted to the smart and handsome Rahul? I wondered.
"Where are you lost Ranjeet?" Poroma asked, "tell me what happened after that?"
I continued, "a long time later I finally came to know that none of my clients actually had any complaints against me, they just called our reception about getting explanations about certain terms and conditions. It was just by chance that I happened to be not present in the office at that time and my mobile was unreachable, so they called the reception to leave the message for me. It was my shear bad luck that Rahul at that time was sitting at the reception flirting with the girls there, and he turned the messages into complaints and keeping me in the dark managed to click with them and put the situation in a completely different light to our boss!
For the next couple of months I have been sending every contract of mine to Rahul for his approval!
Then one day my boss called me to his office. There he asked me to from then onwards include Rahul in my every client meeting. Apparently he was then rescheduled by the management to keep a control on whether the sales executives were providing them all the required services properly.
The main difference was that it seemed like the order was only for me. No other sales executives were put under such control by Rahul!
The next month again a customer made a complaint that I have purposefully left out certain important issues in the contract paper which I had already discussed with them during the negotiations. They said I was actually trying to deceive them. After giving a lot of explanations I managed to cool them down and prepared the contract papers as per their wishes. After that I decided I should tell this to our boss before Rahul came to know about it and tell him the story manipulating it in his own way. So I directly went to him and explained about the problem.
"It's not at all going very nicely for you Ranjeet," said the boss, "you need to be much more careful while dealing with the preparation of the contracts, the clients are not supposed to be thinking in any way that you are trying to deceive them. If this goes on, our client base and our goodwill will both be coming down in the market. Unless you can change yourself and correct all your mistakes the management will be seriously thinking about Rahul for the promotion that is coming up and for which you have been selected long before. The company is already thinking about promoting him in your place! You are a senior employee, but if you continue going like this not only you but also me will be facing a lot of trouble if I am going to support you!"
"Okay Sir," I said in frustration.
I am not feeling happy with all these, I could already anticipate that my long waited promotion is slowly but surely moving out of my reach and towards Rahul! I am hundred percent sure that someone is purposefully trying to show me in a bad light. But how can that be even a possibility? It's me that is preparing the contracts, and me that is mailing them to the clients! Even if someone changes the contract files how can they send them from my mail id unless they have my password?"

"Today Mr. Gupta came here with his wife and partner Mrs. Priyanka Gupta, they have come here to give the assignment to us, but they want me to prepare and do the contract!" He said.
I was just stunned at the incident, for the last one year I have been continually keeping in contact with this Mr. Gupta and have been calling him every month. I have been absolutely sure that I will be getting this contract from him in the project which was supposed to start from January this year!
Just how could Rahul get the contract of this project away from me within the last few months?
Mr. Gupta said, "hi Ranjeet, glad to meet you. How have you been doing?"

There she came in touch with Rahul. Just within the two days of the conference they have become very close friends! Priyanka is too much impressed with his knowledge in business and his services! Actually it was she who forced me to make this contract with Rahul! I was completely helpless here!"
I didn't want to go about fussing, I could understand exactly how much helpless he was! We completed the technical parts of the deal and we together decided to inform him every week about the progress.
So finally that deal also went to Rahul. About two weeks later I came to know that Rahul actually got the contract by fucking Priyanka!
