Mother’s Reward – Part 4

It was around 6 in the morning when we arrived at our village home. Most of my relatives- aunts, uncles and cousins had arrived already for the special festival, and the small house was pretty cramped. All of them welcomed us with open arms, and my aunts and grandma began to cry at our plight. It was pretty awkward for me, but everything cleared up pretty soon. Even though I was tired, I couldn’t sleep because of the commotion in the house.

So I accompanied my cousins to the temple, where the celebrations were to happen the next day. They took me around our fields, which was lush green with produce. There was a little brick shed, which housed a pump to water the plants, and a little bed in a corner. My cousins told me that someone has to stay in the fields and keep an eye on the fields for animals and thieves during harvest time. My uncle would usually be the one to do this job, and the bed was for him to sleep on at nights.

The temple was in the outskirts of the village, and the preparations were on in full swing. My cousin told me that this was a very prestigious festival, and the entire village would be at the temple the next day.

My cousins and I were asked to join in, and were given enough tasks to keep us busy for the rest of the day. The village didn’t have proper transport systems, so if we had to go on multiple bikes to get stuff from a nearby town. It was fun the first two times, but soon, it became tiring, and by night I was completely exhausted.

That evening, I couldn’t even talk to my mom as she was busy in the kitchen. I was frustrated when I went to bed.

The house was fairly empty when my aunt woke me up the next day. Most of my relatives had already left for the temple early in the morning, and only I, mom and a couple of my aunts were at home. Even they were busy getting ready to leave for the temple.

Auty asked me to get ready quickly as we were already late.
